Balneology: healing springs in Dzhemet
Dzhemete is famous for its mud springs and mineral waters, which have healing properties.
Chembur Lake
- Coordinates on the map: 44.934724, 37.327822.
Chembur Lake is called the pearl of the Anapa region. It is located south of Upper Dzhemete.
There are many legends associated with the lake. The most impressive of them tells that centuries ago a war broke out on the shores of the lake. The enemy army killed hundreds of Kuban residents, drowning them in a swampy lake. The enemies threw a feast in honor of the victory, poured wine, called dancers...
And suddenly one of the Kuban residents rose from the swamp. His enemies wounded him, but did not kill him. The healing mud of Lake Chembur healed injuries and endowed the soldier with unprecedented strength. On his shoulders he carried his comrades out of the swamp, covered them with mud, and they also perked up. The revived army rushed to the attack and defeated the enemies.
Although in real life the mud of Chembur Lake is not endowed with the power to resurrect the dead, its healing properties are not in doubt. Highly colloidal silt, rising from the bottom of the lake, has a viscous, plastic consistency. Applied to the skin, it warms the body well and saturates the body with useful microelements. A visit to the lake is recommended for diseases of the digestive system, atherosclerosis, rheumatism and joint diseases.
In addition to its balneological value, Chembur Lake is an ecotourism destination. The shores of the lake are covered with green forests and lush grasses. A walk along eco-trails will provide you with pleasant time spent in the fresh air.
Not far from the lake there are fishing villages. Most often they hunt for rams. The ideal bait for this fish is a black worm that lives in coastal mud.
Balneological complex "Crystal"
- Address: Pionersky Prospekt, 23A.
Balneocomplex "Crystal" offers treatment based on hill and silt mud. The hill mud is of deep, volcanic origin. They are rich in minerals, including bromine, calcium, boron and iodine.
Silt mud is extracted from the bottom of lakes and rivers. They contain iodine and sulfur compounds, which are useful in treating inflammation and fungi. After taking a mud bath, the skin becomes soft and tender, like velvet, and multiple visits give a noticeable healing effect.
In addition to mud baths, the sanatorium offers mud massage, mineral showers and salt rooms. Before visiting, you should consult a doctor who will prescribe a course of treatment.
Mineral springs of the sanatorium "Rodnik"
- Address: Pionersky Prospekt, 30.
The sanatorium got its name due to the fact that on its territory there are several natural springs of mineral water with a unique composition.
The first source is well No. 29. The source originates in the mountains of the Caucasus Range, passes through various rocks, and mixes with rain and melt water from glaciers. All this saturates the source with gases and minerals. The composition of such water is similar to the composition of the waters of the Red Sea.
The second source is well No. 5-bis. The source flows from the Sea of Azov and corresponds to the Matsesta type. The composition includes many trace elements, including bromine, iodine and oxygen. Drinking water from this source is recommended for diseases of the respiratory tract and nervous system.
The third source was created artificially by combining the previous two and was called the “Anapa Spring”. You can try the “branded” mineral water in the pump room built on the territory of the sanatorium. There are no contraindications for taking water from the source. According to doctors, the active composition stimulates brain function, restores the immune system, improves skin condition and promotes weight loss.
Before visiting the springs, you should consult a doctor, since the effects of minerals are individual for each person.
Don't miss: Where to go with children in Anapa
History of the village of Dzhemete
The name of the village - Dzhemete - translated from Adyghe, sounds like “golden sands”. And, indeed, this suburb of Anapa, like neighboring Vityazevo, is famous for its long and wide golden sandy beaches.
This territory passed to Russia, like other Black Sea settlements of the Krasnodar Territory, in the late 30s of the 19th century. Then a Russian fortified fortress was created on the site of the current resort, and it remained such until the end of the 80s of the same century.
The sandy coast formed naturally in the Dzhemete area
More vibrant life in this sandy area began in the late 80s and early 90s of the 19th century. General D. Pilenko drew attention to him
and began to develop waste lands, planting vineyards there. The enterprising general found followers, and soon this area turned into one of the centers of viticulture. Local grapes made excellent quality wine.
After the revolution, the farms that miraculously survived the devastation became the property of the state, and on their basis the first Kuban viticulture state farm appeared here. The beginning of the 20s is also associated with the beginning of the research work of the Anapa Zonal Experimental Station established here, which was engaged in the selection of new varietal grapes.
Mass grape cultivation began in Dzhemet at the end of the 19th century
In parallel with the development of viticulture, the village began to attract attention as an excellent sanatorium and resort area. The healing and health effects of this place on the human body were noticed in ancient times. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. Dachas were actively built here; in 1909, one of the first Anapa sanatoriums, V. Budzinsky, appeared. This resort place itself was called – Sands
. Almost from the very beginning, Sands began to be considered a children's resort, but there was no mass use of it in this capacity before the revolution. Only after the consequences of the devastation of the Civil War were eliminated, Dzhemete began to actively develop as a children's resort.
Organized baths were held on the Sands at the beginning of the 20th century
The beginning of the creation of children's camps in the 20s of the 20th century is connected in Dzhemet directly with the appearance of a huge number of street children - children orphaned during the years of revolutionary changes, dispossession, repression, etc. At that time, children fled en masse to the south of Kuban, settling in the Peski area in forest thickets, in the mountains, etc. To accommodate these children, confiscated mansions were adapted, tent camps were created, washrooms, canteens, etc. were built.
In addition to organizing local street children, weakened and sick children from large Russian cities were taken to the vicinity of Anapa. On the initiative of the American Red Cross, which was engaged in rescuing St. Petersburg children, in the summer of 1921 a lot of children from Petrograd arrived here. Gradually, by the end of the 20s, the massive creation of children's pioneer camps began along the coast to organize regular children's recreation.
Numerous street children were the first to fill up the children's camps in Dzhemete
By the beginning of the war, seventeen pioneer camps and three sanatorium institutions were functioning in Peski for the recreation and treatment of children, including the family sanatorium “Mother and Child”. During the years of German occupation, most of these sanatoriums and medical institutions were destroyed. After the war, the sanatorium and resort life of the village was restored, and its development as a resort in the Krasnodar Territory again began to gain momentum year by year.
Since 1947, the main road (Dzhemetinskoye Highway), connecting Anapa with Dzhemete, around which the active creation of children's camps took place, began to be called Pionersky Avenue.
Pionersky Avenue today connects Anapa with Vityazevo, passing through Dzhemete
Today this avenue is the center of the resort life of the village. Hundreds of tourists pass through it every day in search of accommodation, food, entertainment and simply a relaxing resort pastime.
Original resort cafes

When guests make a choice, they have to make one more thing - decide which of the hundreds of options for coffee drinks they want to have for dessert. “Vanilla” is very popular among city residents and tourists, so there are no yesterday’s baked goods here - all the pies are sold out piping hot.
The cafe has a children's playground with swings, as well as a TV playing cartoons. For adults, there is a cozy, secluded corner where you can enjoy delicacies in peace and quiet.

The pattern is combined with volumetric elements: brick fortresses and stone piles. In the hall there is a fountain-waterfall and a sculpture of Gulliver himself.
The cafe menu will suit every taste. Dishes of Caucasian, Russian and European cuisine are presented here. The children's menu is as fabulous as the establishment itself. Children will be offered to try the Harry Potter cutlet and Little Red Riding Hood porridge.
When visiting a cafe, tourists often find themselves in the midst of fun. Various shows, animated performances and celebrations are regularly organized here.
Cafe "Cave"
- Address: Pionersky Prospekt, 70B.
“Cave” is the most famous cafe in Dzhemet. It won the love of visitors primarily due to its original interior.
Once you enter the hall, you get the impression that you have descended into a real underground cave. Tables line the jagged stone walls, and speleothems—sharp icicles made of minerals—hang from the ceiling. On the stone heaps there are figures of wild animals: cave wolves and bears.
The menu offers dishes of Caucasian and European cuisine, and the local bar will provide a wide selection of alcoholic drinks.

Beach near Bolshoi Utrish
Address: pos. Bolshoi Utrish (landmark - "Fast food" point) Coordinates: 44.746756, 37.406544 How to get there: bus No. 109 from Anapa, 20 km, travel time - 40 minutes Entrance: free Beach type: sand and pebbles
Tourists looking for a wild holiday flock to the small village. Wide sand dunes, a warm shallow sea and the absence of people compensate for the complete lack of infrastructure on such beaches.
It is in the vicinity of Bolshoi Utrish that there is one of the most famous nudist beaches. To find it, you need to go through two lagoons, which were chosen by people of various subcultures who practice solitude and an ascetic lifestyle.
In addition, you need to cross a section of the reserve, for which you will have to pay the rangers 50-100 rubles.
The surface of the nudist beach is pebbly, but the pebbles are round and do not hurt to lie on. It is important to remember that any modern infrastructure is far away, so you need to take everything you need with you.
According to visitor reviews
Pros:
- The best way to connect with nature.
- Very, very few people.
- Clean shore and clear water.
- Calm and quiet.
Flaws:
- The nearest shops are very far away.
- On the nudist beach there are onlookers and photographers.
For the first time I went on vacation as a savage. It was an unforgettable experience! We didn’t dare go to the nudist beach, but living in a tent on the seashore was wonderful!
Climate
Both villages are located in a temperate climate zone and (together with Anapa) are considered the northernmost resorts on the Black Sea coast of Kuban.
Compared to Sochi, it is not so humid here, but no less sunny, and the beach season in both places lasts from late May to early October. You may be interested in: Holidays in Vityazevo and Anapa in 2022: advantages and disadvantages
The weather of Vityazevo and Dzhemete is determined by the winds blowing from the Taman steppes and the Caucasus Mountains, as well as fresh breezes that carry coolness from the Black Sea. Thanks to this aeration, it is easy to breathe on the coast, and those who suffer from asthma, bronchitis or allergies do not even remember their illnesses here.
It is better to travel with children to Vityazevo and Dzhemete in early June, when the air warms up to a comfortable +25-26 °C, and the water reaches +22-24 °C. The same temperature indicators are typical for September, except that the sun during this period becomes more “accommodating” and no longer heats so much, but envelops vacationers in a pleasant, “velvety” warmth.
In July and August, it is truly sultry in Dzhemete and Vityazevo: during the day the thermometer rises above +30 °C, and the water warms up to +27 °C. The solar insolation is off the charts and you can’t lie on the beach for a long time, but this time, like no other, is suitable for romantic night swims.

"Peasant farmstead"
Another popular recreation center, located at 54 Pionersky Prospekt. This is the very center of the village - just a five-minute leisurely walk to the sea. Guests are offered cozy furnished rooms equipped with TVs and refrigerators, fans and air conditioning. There is a market and a grocery store next door.
If you prefer to prepare your own meals, you can use the shared kitchen or a private kitchen if you are staying in a junior suite. The grill is provided free of charge. The courtyard of the base is stylized as a South Russian village farmstead: a log house of a well, platbands with lace carvings, neat flower beds and shady alleys. The base operates from May to September.
