For many Russian citizens, before each New Year holidays a difficult question arises - where to go this winter
where to spend the next New Year's week.
Similar choices will be made regarding winter trips before the coming 2022
- the year of the Blue Water Tiger.
Fans of traveling within our national borders annually choose one of the cities in Central Russia
Fortunately, it is rich in original, historically interesting settlements.
Moscow region
, Nizhny Novgorod and Samara, Kazan and
Yekaterinburg
are most often visited .
One of the most frequent destinations for winter tourism is the oldest Volga region city - Yaroslavl
, which has an interesting and rich history (see History of Yaroslavl).
Winter Yaroslavl
Features of a winter visit
Yaroslavl is located near Moscow and within easy reach
from many cities in the center of Russia, since it is a major transport hub connecting various directions.
The area of the city is just over 200 sq. km., but its historical part, attractive to tourists, is relatively small, about 4-5 sq. km
. This allows for short, but content-filled, educational walks.
Walking through winter Yaroslavl
The weather characteristics of the winter period are the same as in Moscow and other cities in central Russia. These are snowfalls, frosts with periods of thaw, winds, blizzards, etc. Although the weather has become quite unpredictable lately, you need to count on a traditional Russian winter
with a temperate continental climate. Therefore, when planning to spend a vacation in this ancient Russian city, you need to take with you a supply of warm clothes, shoes, etc.
As for the main pastime that travelers can count on at this time of year in this city, it is, first of all, a calm and leisurely visit to temples and museums
, short
walks
along the central streets, which have preserved the flavor of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Winter Yaroslavl is a city of relaxation
and immersion in deep history, contact with the distant past and comprehension of the bustling present.
The romantic charm of winter Yaroslavl
If you are tired of the office bustle, of solving constantly arising problems, then a short vacation (for 2-3 or 3-4 days) in winter Yaroslavl is what you need.
It’s very good to come to Yaroslavl for a romantic retreat
. At this time of year, the tourist flow noticeably decreases, and the city is not as bustling as in summer. And there are more than enough romantics in such a small and ancient city.
Evening Andropov Street
Youth groups also like to come here, finding both what to see and where to sit. And even they, with a certain youthful maximalism and skepticism, when examining temple and museum objects, find a lot of interesting and impressive information. In any case, there can be no disappointments in winter Yaroslavl.
The main thing is to choose in advance where to stay
– hotel, guest house or other option. Preferably, closer to the center, because the city is still provincial and no one has canceled the problems with transport, especially in winter, so it is better not to depend on it.
It would be good to decide in advance about catering points
by identifying them on the map and reading reviews about them. Because looking for a cafe in an unfamiliar city, especially in cold winter, is not a very easy task.
In Demidovsky Park
And so we smoothly moved on to the third mandatory point in preparing for the trip - having a city map
indicating the main attractions. In any form. Today, in the era of high technology, this is not a problem. Everyone has modern phones, tablets, etc., but if it’s not very convenient to use them in cold weather, you can simply print this map in advance.
And, of course, you need to draw up a rough action plan
– where to go for a walk and what to see, with clarification
hours
of the selected objects. This will not require any special organizational skills, but will help you spend your holidays more fruitfully and without any hassles.
Conclusion
Thus, a trip to Yaroslavl in December will not be overshadowed by bad weather or poor service. The main thing is to dress for the weather and enjoy walking and the beauty of the great Russian city. Getting to know your native country and its most beautiful corners is an excellent alternative to traveling abroad.

Where to go for a walk in winter
The Yaroslavl center is not very large, and therefore short walks in the fresh air are very useful, not tiring and aesthetically rich. Historic District
, as a UNESCO-protected urban planning site, is not built up with modern high-rise buildings, and this is where its charm and originality lie. The main central streets, which are not very wide, become even narrower and uniquely picturesque during snowfalls.
Historical Center
The layout of Yaroslavl, carried out as part of the establishment of urban planning order by Catherine II in the second half of the 18th century, makes today's walks through the historical center very convenient and compact. Straight streets
converge and diverge in a few squares, which are rich in architectural
attractions
and are all interconnected by a radial-ring grid. Therefore, any chosen direction will lead somewhere. But more specifically, then...
Driving routes from Sovetskaya Square
In Yaroslavl, you should definitely visit Sovetskaya Square. This is the main square of the city, and the obligatory city tree and ice skating rink will be installed on it. On New Year's Eve it can be fun and lively here, but after the New Year, life returns to normal.
New Year's Eve on Sovetskaya Square
Here is the most beautiful city Temple of Elijah the Prophet. Unfortunately, it is not accessible for visits in the winter season. But an external inspection and visual online acquaintance with the history and internal riches of the temple will make you have a burning desire to return to Yaroslavl in the summer, in order to walk through its galleries and halls, painted with frescoes of the 17th century.
After admiring the festively decorated Yaroslavl government buildings and the Elijah Church, you can move along any street you like.
Regional Administration Building
Route one
.
To the left of the Elias Church there is a rather long Sovetskaya Street
.
This is one of the beautiful central streets, a walk along which will bring aesthetic pleasure. Along with the surviving buildings of the 19th century
- tenements and frequent merchant houses, there are also buildings from the Soviet period
of the 30s
, which harmoniously fit into the overall architectural ensemble.
On this street lived the Musins-Pushkins
(no. 10), the stepfather of the founder of the Russian theater
F. Volkov
(no. 3), here were the buildings
of the Noble Assembly
(no. 19), the City Government (no. 19, building 3), etc. .d.
The street leads to Red Square
city, with its remarkable
“House with an Arch”
(no. 21) and a huge
Monument to Lenin
, which indicates how to get to the railway station (just kidding).
If you walk further along Sovetskaya Street, because it continues deeper, you can see the Yaroslavl Distillery
(no. 63), founded at the beginning of the 20th century. Since 2015, production of the main products has been discontinued, but the building itself is very interesting.
City symbol on the city alley
Route two
.
If you go from the Elias Church in a western direction, you can walk along the small Kirova Street
, which today is
a pedestrian street
.
This rather busy street, full of shops and cafes, once led to the city gates towards Uglich, which is why it was called Uglichskaya
.
In the 18th century, the development was predominantly residential, but at the beginning of the 19th century it began to be of a commercial nature. At the beginning of the 20th century, the street was decorated with several buildings in the Art Nouveau style. One of them is the former Bristol Hotel
(no. 10), which is simply impossible to pass by.
Former hotel "Bristol" on Kirova Street
Kirova Street leads, as already mentioned, to the exit gate from the city, which has stood on Volkov Square since the second half of the 17th century
!
the Znamenskaya Church
built in front of its eastern side . The history of the emergence of the church in front of the tower is very interesting, and the tower itself simply breathes the Middle Ages. Be sure to walk under the arch, feel the power and strength of the military facility, and, if possible, visit the church.
Znamenskaya (Vlasyevskaya) tower with church
Then take a look around Volkov Square
, appreciate the beauty of the Drama Theater and the harmony of the entire architectural ensemble and continue your walk.
View of Volkov Square from the Vlasyevsky Garden
Route three
.
If you go from Sovetskaya Square in a south-west direction, the path will go along another ancient street with a modern name - Nakhimson
.
Here you can mentally return to the late 18th and early 19th
centuries.
The bulk of the construction dates back to this time. Private and apartment buildings, several buildings of the former Gostiny Dvor
(no. 15-19), the former building of the
Belfort
from the beginning of the 20th century - that, in principle, is all. But there is some amazing charm and aching nostalgia in all this.
On Nakhimson street
Nakhimson Street will lead us to Epiphany Square and to the main tourist attraction of Yaroslavl located here - the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery, on whose territory the amazingly rich and diverse Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve
, which is best visited on a separate day.
Route four
.
It is also very interesting to walk from Sovetskaya Square to the right of the Elias Church, in a southeast direction along the Boulevard of Peace
.
This walking tourist trail through the Demidovsky Garden
will lead us to the place of the direct origin of Yaroslavl - to the Yaroslavl Kremlin, or
Chopped City
.
Objects of the Chopped City in winter
There is a lot to see and visit in this place. Tourist sites are the Assumption Cathedral, the Museum of Ancient Russian Art
, located in the former
Metropolitan Chambers
,
the Foundation Stone
of the city and the Church of St. Nicholas the Ruben, the
Holy Trinity
and the St. Elias-Tikhon Church.
“Monument “Holy Trinity” on the territory of the Yaroslavl Kremlin
The territory of the Rubennoye City smoothly flows into the Strelka Park area. Unfortunately, some very popular summer walking areas lose their originality and aura in winter. This applies to Volzhskaya Embankment, Strelka Park and some others.
In Strelka Park, without working fountains, flowering and fragrant flower beds, in an open space blown by winds from all sides, there is not much to do in winter. But if you still come here, then go to the Monument “1000 Years of Yaroslavl”
installed at the expense of Gazprom and give it your assessment. Because the artistic and compositional execution of this monument still causes mixed perceptions among both tourists and city residents.
Strelka Park in winter
Route five
.
Well, the last tourist direction from Sovetskaya Square is the path behind the Temple of Elijah the Prophet, to the northeast, along Sovetsky or Narodny Lane. Both of them will lead you to the Volzhskaya Embankment
, where the Governor's Palace is available for tourist inspection as a branch of
the Art Museum
with exhibitions of Russian pictorial art.
The Museum of Western European Art
is also located nearby .
Governor's House on Volzhskaya Embankment
Next to the Governor's Palace is the City History Museum
, very interesting and informative.
A little up the embankment is the stunning private Museum of Music and Time
and the amazing Church of the Nativity. It’s impossible to list everything. All these objects, when examined slowly, will bring a certain energetic substance into our worldview, peace and harmony, and, of course, significantly expand our horizons.
Tourist routes from Epiphany Square
Epiphany Square itself, leading the history of its existence from the 12th century
, is one of the city's main attractions. You can spend a whole day exploring this square and nearby objects.
Here is the beautiful Church of the Epiphany, built in the 17th century. It was she who gave the name to the square, in the center of which there is the famous and known to everyone from the thousandth banknote, the Monument to Yaroslav the Wise.
Bogoyavlenskaya Square
But the most attractive attraction of the square is the ancient Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery, with its oldest Spaso-Preobrazhensky Church of the 16th century, where unique frescoes
.
There is a high Belfry
with bells and many other objects that can be viewed today, for the territory of the former monastery is
the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve
, offering tourists a lot of exhibitions and displays.
Transfiguration Cathedral
From Epiphany Square, as well as from Sovetskaya, there are several streets, a walk along which will bring many new impressions. First of all, this is the main city thoroughfare - Pervomaiskaya Street
, passing in a semicircle through the site of the historical fortifications of Zemlyanoy Town (posad).
This rather long and wide highway connects the banks of the Volga and Kotorosl, and passes through Volkov and Krasnaya squares. parks on it
and boulevards, and along it there are beautiful architectural
monuments
of the late 18th - early 20th centuries: buildings of
the Gostiny Dvor
, private shops and apartment buildings, buildings of the Kazan Convent with the Kazan Cathedral (no. 19 a), mansions and
the Church of the Archangel Michael
.
And if you go down Pervomaiskaya Street, behind the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery, you can go to Kotoroslnaya embankment
and walk along it towards Strelka. This is the most romantic and very picturesque route.
Kotoroslnaya embankment in winter attire
What to bring from Yaroslavl
Majolica
Thanks to the large amount of red clay in the local soil, Yaroslavl has long been famous as a center of arts and crafts. But only in 1992, in the future “Majolica Workshop of Pavlova and Shepelev” (Yunosti Street, 17A), the famous Yaroslavl majolica appeared - glossy painted ceramics, which de facto became a symbol of the city.
Yaroslavl bells
For many years in a row, beautiful melodic bells for churches and temples were cast in Yaroslavl. Therefore, you can bring your loved ones a cute little bell as a souvenir. Very beautiful ones are sold, for example, in the store at the Music and Time museum (Volzhskaya embankment, 33A).
The Bears
An ancient legend says that the bear was directly related to the formation of Yaroslavl. It is believed that it was this beast that was defeated by the founder of the city, Prince Yaroslav the Wise. That is why the bear is depicted on the city coat of arms. By the way, even just walking around Yaroslavl, you will come across many monuments to the clubfoot (perhaps the nicest one is located on the pedestrian part of Kirova Street). So souvenirs with bear motifs will be more than appropriate.
Alcoholic drinks
Not long ago, the Yaroslavl Distillery resumed production of alcoholic beverages. The Yaroslavl Distillery, one of the oldest enterprises in the city, resumed operations. They even opened a beautiful and modern “TSEKH” glass shop at the plant. The place turned out to be extremely soulful: the bar counter and counter were made of “original” factory brick. There you can not only taste and buy local products, but also try branded liqueurs and snacks.
Visiting Yaroslavl churches
Yaroslavl - a city of ancient history
and temple domes.
There are, perhaps, so many preserved church buildings in no other city.
twenty
churches alone dating back to the 17th century
in Yaroslavl . Simply listing them will not give anything, and a detailed description will take up a lot of space.
Winter's Tale of the Church of Elijah the Prophet
Some temples are active, some are not, some are open, some are closed to visitors during the winter. It is clear that when visiting the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery, you will not pass by the Spassky Cathedral, located in it, and the Church of the Epiphany, located nearby on the square.
Epiphany Church and Monument to Yaroslav the Wise
Walking along the small and few streets of winter Yaroslavl, you will come across other temple buildings. Each of them is beautiful from an architectural point of view and interesting from a historical point of view. We mentioned some of them above in the list of various walking routes. For more details, see Temples of Yaroslavl. In winter decoration they are all unusually beautiful and mysterious. And even if you don’t manage to get inside many of them, this will only be a reason to return to Yaroslavl in the summer!
Golden Yaroslavl domes
Volzhskaya embankment
Volzhskaya Embankment is the decoration of Yaroslavl and a favorite walking place for tourists and local residents.
The entire length of the embankment, which is almost 4 km, is decorated with a carved forged fence on one side. On the other hand, linden trees were planted. In addition to the wide pedestrian path, there are bicycle paths.
The embankment serves as an observation deck from which a beautiful panoramic view opens onto the opposite bank of the Volga, located lower in the relief. The rotunda, built next to Myakushinsky Descent, is a romantic place where newlyweds make dates and take photographs.
Museum events
Winter is the ideal time to explore museum treasures
, familiarization with Russian and world cultures.
Firstly, they are warm, and secondly, they are incredibly interesting. Yaroslavl is no exception in this regard. The historical roots of the city go back to the beginning of the 11th century
, and this is not a ram’s sneeze. Therefore, acquaintance with the historical, picturesque and architectural heritage of the city will not leave anyone indifferent. For more details, see Museums of Yaroslavl.
The collection treasures of the two main museum complexes of Yaroslavl are made up of the most intimate museum exhibits.
This is, first of all, the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve
, the largest historical and architectural exhibition of which is collected on the territory of the former Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery, located on Epiphany Square.
Entrance to the Museum-Reserve of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery
Antiquity itself is here! The first handwritten and printed books
(up to “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign”) and archaeological artifacts,
weapons
and military uniforms, ancient
icons
and the nature department,
jewelry
with precious metals and so on.
Exhibits of the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve
The buildings of the monastery themselves, its walls and loopholes, and internal halls are interesting. One day is not enough to see everything and get acquainted with all the exhibits. But there are also interesting modern interactive exhibitions here.
On the territory of the Museum-Reserve
In addition, the Museum-Reserve is in charge of individual Yaroslavl churches, including Ilyinsky on Sovetskaya Square, St. John the Baptist, Rozhdestvensky on the Volzhskaya Embankment, and Epiphany. They are not available for internal inspection in winter, but even their external inspection will leave an unforgettable impression.
Church of the Nativity
the Yaroslavl Art Museum has a rich collection in the field of painting and sculpture
.
Its main collection of works by Russian painters from the beginning of the 18th century is located in the former building of the Governor's Palace. Near Sovetskaya Square there is another branch - the Museum of Western European Painting, and on the territory of the Chopped City, in the Metropolitan Chambers - the Museum of Ancient Russian Art.
In the Hall of the Art Museum in the Governor's House
Visiting all these museum branches is quite interesting. And touching something beautiful really warms you up in bad winter weather and puts you in a positive mood.
City History Museum
(no. 17) is located on the Volzhskaya embankment near the Governor’s House and offers two exhibitions for your acquaintance:
“Ten centuries of the history of Yaroslavl”
and
“From the history of Yaroslavl medicine”
. Both exhibitions are worth a visit.
Exhibitions of the Museum of City History
Museum “Music and Time” has recently become very popular.
(house 33 A).
This is definitely where you need to go! Antique music boxes
,
gramophones
and gramophones,
harpsichords
and musical clocks - you name it! And everything is in working order, and a friendly employee will tell you everything, and you will sit surrounded by this retro miracle and just enjoy and admire.
Exhibits of the Museum “Music and Time”

For more variety, we suggest visiting
the “House of Muses,”
located in the former home of the author of the poetic text adaptation of the ancient “The Tale of Igor’s Host”
Nikolai Bibikov
.
Today, in its halls, in a romantic modern setting, there is the Museum of Modern Art
(Tchaikovsky St., 23 a)
.
Recently, many non-standard, interactive museums have appeared. There is one in Yaroslavl. This is the Eisenstein Museum
, or
the Museum of Entertaining Sciences
(Sobinova, 47).
You can come here with your whole family, touch all the physical and chemical exhibits, conduct experiments with them, etc. If you come to Yaroslavl with school-age children
, then you definitely need to come here! Where else can you take your children, see What to see in Yaroslavl with children.
Einstein Museum (entertaining sciences)
Being on Pervomaiskaya Street in the area of Bogoyavlenskaya Square, you can have fun with your children at the interactive Museum-Theater “Aleshkino Podvorie”
(Pervomaiskaya, 53)
.
You just need to choose a program in advance and sign up for an entertaining and educational excursion.
Museum-Theater "Aleshkino Compound"
By the way, if you are traveling with a child
, then try to sign up for a visit to
the Motherland of Baba Yaga
.
Yes, yes... The birthplace of Father Frost is in Veliky Ustyug, the Snow Maiden is in Kostroma, and Baba Yaga is near Yaroslavl. A visit to the village of Kukoboi
, however, is very problematic, because it is located 160 km from the city, but if you have a car and desire, everything is possible.
Moreover, in addition to the Hut on Chicken Legs
, you can see other attractions of the village there, such as
the Holy Spring
, the Spassky Church,
the Fairy Tale Museum
and the School Museum.
In the homeland of Baba Yaga near Yaroslavl
If you are traveling by car, be sure to visit the Karabikha Museum-Reserve.
, summer dacha
of N.A. Nekrasov
.
It is located only 15 km
from Yaroslavl, and in principle you can get there by bus.
But visiting this ancient estate, which remembers the princes Golitsyn
, and the Russian
poet N. Nekrasov
, who later walked here and wrote poems for our future school curriculum, is very interesting.
Estate "Karabikha"
Fans of cozy memorial museums will also find something to see in Yaroslavl in winter. At their service is the wonderful L. Sobinov House-Museum
“Orpheus of the Russian Stage”
was born back in 1872 .
At the Sobinov Museum
On Poshtovaya Street, 8 there is the Museum “My Favorite Bear”
.
Its visit will be pleasant for both young children
and their grown-up fathers and mothers, because on New Year's holidays you really want to return to childhood and again feel like a child playing with your favorite toy. Some of the bears on display have amazing destinies behind them. There is even Mishka, who went through the Leningrad blockade!
Museum "My Favorite Bear"
Thus, the museum world of Yaroslavl is quite diverse and it is simply impossible to immerse yourself in its aura in one visit, which means there is a reason to come here again.
Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery
Address: Bogoyavlenskaya Square, 25 Opening hours: from 8.30 to 18.00, except Monday Telephone
This is the oldest building in Yaroslavl, located in the very center. Before the revolution, there was a repository of ancient manuscripts and books here. Once upon a time, the only surviving copy of “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign” was discovered here.
For a long time, this monastery played the role of the Kremlin, owning many surrounding villages and being a spiritual and economic center. Ivan the Terrible alone gave him more than 200 villages. In the 16th century, the monastery, built of wood, suffered from a fire; later it was rebuilt from stone, following the example of some cathedrals of the Moscow Kremlin.
Here you can admire wall frescoes dating back almost a thousand years and pray at ancient icons. There is an exhibition at the monastery where visitors are introduced to ancient Russian art and ancient sculpture. You can even visit the cells where monks lived in the Middle Ages.
The Transfiguration Cathedral, which is the center of the monastery, is open to visitors only from May 1 to October 1.
Cultural and entertainment events
Yaroslavl is the city of birth of Russian dramatic theater. And therefore, here you must definitely go to at least one performance at the oldest theater in the country - the Yaroslavl Drama Theater, which bears the name of its founder F. Volkov.
Yaroslavl Drama Theater named after F. Volkov
The Volkovsky Theater has several stage areas: Main and Chamber, Middle Stage and Art Cafe. Its repertoire includes productions by classical and contemporary authors. Touring and festival events are held.
Interestingly, during the New Year holidays, theater evenings are also held in the cozy “Yaroslavl Chamber Theater”
.
the Yaroslavl State Philharmonic a must-see in Yaroslavl
(Maksimova, 13), which is located near Volkov Square.
A wonderful Sobinov Hall
, wonderful musical evenings and, as a result, a great New Year's mood! All you need to do is read the event poster in advance and buy an e-ticket.
Stage of the Yaroslavl Philharmonic
If you couldn’t get a ticket to the Philharmonic, which also happens, but you want to listen to good music on a winter Yaroslavl evening, then visit the Jazz Center
on Bolshaya Oktyabrskaya, 50. It is a little away from Bogoyavlenskaya Square. There, in a small and intimate atmosphere, you can listen to performances by young musical groups.
At the Jazz Center on Bolshaya Oktyabrskaya
If you come to Yaroslavl with children
, then providing them with cultural entertainment will not be difficult.
You will only need to choose where to go - to the Youth Theater
, to
the Puppet Theater
or to
the Circus
, and worry about tickets in advance.
In any case, before visiting Yaroslavl you need to familiarize yourself with the poster
cultural events for the period of interest and choose from the proposed list several to suit your taste. Then not only the winter days spent in this ancient city will be filled with vivid impressions, but also the Yaroslavl evenings will remain in the memory as a bright and warm memory.

Reviews from tourists
Andrey 01/02/2021 21:13
Hello fellow countrymen! Today I wanted to take a walk around New Year's Yaroslavl. First, the minibus offered me a cold shower of wet snow and mud. I immediately remembered the “kind word” of our respected mayor, who decided to avenge me and cancel all minibuses. May it be worse for them. Further, passing along the street. Freedom, I was filled with pride for our city, the capital of the Golden Ring of Russia. I realized the secret plan of the city leaders, aimed at making every minute of the guests' stay on the streets of Yaroslavl unforgettable. The streets are not specially cleaned so that city guests will not be able to cross the snow and mud puddles and get to their vehicles, and the snow porridge on the pedestrian sidewalks will not allow them to fully enjoy the New Year’s decorations of the historical center of the city, and at the same time they, the city guests,” there will be no time to notice the absence of this decoration. At the same time, the time spent moving through the streets increases significantly, and elements of extreme sports are added - a kind of highlight. But there is something to remember. Watching how young mothers almost carried strollers with children in their arms, I was filled with such pride for Yaroslavn that I thank our mayor’s office, housing and communal services, dez, zhek and each janitor personally for their resourcefulness. Thank you, dear ones, for your personal contribution to the development of our city. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Transport
The most convenient way to explore the historical center of Yaroslavl is on foot - it is compact, and at every step there are interesting sights, which are not very convenient to admire from the bus window. However, if you have covered enough kilometers and don’t mind using transport, buses, trolleybuses, trams, minibuses and taxis are at your service.
The most “touristically useful” route of Yaroslavl transport is trolleybus No. 1, which goes around its historical center - from the railway station along Svobody Street to the central Volkov Square and further to Red Square.
On Saturdays and Sundays, the “Tourist Tram” runs through the city streets. The excursion starts from Sverdlova Street, and the final stop will be Chkalova Street. During the journey, the audio guide will tell passengers about the sights of the city: the history of Butusovsky Park, from which the movement will begin, Karl Marx Square, the Giant Club and the Solovyov Hospital. Also mentioned will be those attractions that no longer exist, for example, the Volga cinema. The cost of such a trip is 200 RUB.
Minibuses, according to Russian tradition, follow the route of buses and trolleybuses and will take you to the right place much faster. Travel by municipal transport or minibus will cost 26-30 RUB depending on the type of transport, and a taxi ride within Yaroslavl will cost from 150 RUB. Prices on the page are for September 2021.
You can order a car through Yandex, Uber, Citymobil, Maxim taxi services or by phone to any location in the city.

Reviews:
We had dinner with the family. Large assortment and very decent quality of rolls. Everyone liked everything. Fast and friendly staff.
Very tasty, there is a choice for vegetarians. The dishes are unusual. Prices are reasonable.
When it comes to rolls, this is the place! Always fresh, beautiful, tasty. And also Japanese creamy soup and steamed rice with salmon with teriyaki sauce - mmm, try it and see for yourself!
The choice of dishes is large, everything is Asian. Children's menu - fast food. We tried soups, rice with meat, rolls (a lot of complicated names). Everything was eaten with a bang. Polite staff. It's spacious inside, with a lot of tables and rooms.
Kirova street
The main street of the city. It is only partially pedestrian, but popularly it bears the proud name “Yaroslavl Arbat”. There are many shops, cafes and ancient buildings here. The former Bristol Hotel (1910) and the building of Yaroslavl University (1786) deserve special attention.
Exactly on the street. Kirov is worth looking for souvenir shops if you want to buy something in memory of Yaroslavl and its attractions.

The pizza is delicious, my husband liked the beer, the cappuccino is a B minus, there are very few places in the city where cappuccino is brewed without excessive bitterness.
Visited the establishment with a girlfriend, excellent pizza and a great double cappuccino! We liked it so much that we came back the next day!
Visited this restaurant based on reviews. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table. I must say that the seating was very comfortable. It was cozy and calm.
Very tasty pizza! Definitely the best in Yaroslavl! We order every Saturday or Sunday. Delivery is very fast. The pizza is baked and crispy. All ingredients are fresh.

Breakfast turned out to be very tasty, interesting design and presentation of dishes. We liked it so much that we came back for breakfast again. The employees are polite, sociable, very nice girls and young men.
Atmospheric, tasty and soulful! Go up to the second floor to immerse yourself in the atmosphere and be sure to try the pate and mussels in Roquefort sauce, wash it all down with a glass of white and you will be happy.
We ordered breakfast from the Chef, potato pancakes with poached egg and a sandwich with salmon and soft cheese (2 pieces per serving). Everything was sooo delicious.
Governor's Garden
This is one of the most beautiful sights of Yaroslavl. The garden was founded in 1821-1825. around the estate, intended for the recreation of Governor-General Bezobrazov and ceremonial receptions of government officials and imperial persons.
In this picturesque corner, spreading oaks, ash and linden trees grow, neat flower beds are laid out, and in the warm season there is a large fountain in front of the estate. The variety of small architectural forms will make you slow down - here you can see the works of Z. Tsereteli, V. Korneev, I. Dashevsky.

We love this place, although the beer there is not cheap, but what a choice! We visited it more than once with friends and always left in a great mood! The selection of snacks is, of course, unique, but this is a beer establishment. The staff will always advise and help with the choice of drinks.
At Bruges you can drink both draft and bottled. From the draft ones, I recommend the quadruple Gulden Draag or the tripel Karmeliet. For connoisseurs of trapist varieties Rochefort 10 (in bottles). Large selection of snacks and hot dishes. I would especially like to mention the BBQ dishes.
Atmospheric place! Delicious drinks for every taste. Great snacks! Helpful staff! We are glad!
Unexpectedly authentic place with an excellent set: a large selection of delicious beer for different tastes, fresh, deliciously cooked mussels, fast, pleasant waiters. The menu is not very large, but varied and quite sufficient.
Penates
Address: st. Sovetskaya, 28 Website: https://penats-club.ru Phone: +7 4852 721 353 Average bill: 1500 rub.
“Penates” is a place where everything comes together - gastronomic joy, the ease of being and the inevitability of meeting.
The Penaty restaurant is located in the central part of Yaroslavl, within walking distance of the main attractions of the thousand-year-old city. Surrounded by history, located in a building from the mid-18th century, it itself is a unique piece of it.
Initially, the house belonged to the guild of Yaroslavl merchants. Having left two and a half centuries behind, having gone through a number of trials with the city, the ancient building was restored and is now a decoration of Yaroslavl.
Here, drowning in the softness of sofas and armchairs, you can always escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern city. The restaurant's format allows guests to organize business meetings during the day and relax comfortably in the evening. Exquisite dishes, noble wines and the best traditions of hospitality await you.
The restaurant's interior looks expensive: carved wooden elements on the walls and ceilings, a billiard room, a fireplace. Some details attract attention, for example, a retro gramophone.
Visitors are delighted with the unusual serving of hot dishes and desserts. Almost every food takeout is a small show that will be remembered for a long time.

- original presentation of dishes with show elements;
- tasty food;
- friendly waiters.
Minuses:
- high prices;
- no children's menu;
- There may be no available seats.
Reviews:
Went for lunch with family. The tables were all booked in advance, but they gave us a meeting and seated us on the veranda for 1.5 hours. This time was quite enough for us. The presentation of the dishes is amazing, we didn’t even expect such cuisine from Yaroslavl. Pleasantly surprised. The okroshka is divine, as are the cheeks!
Good service, competent waiters and a really interesting presentation makes an impression. Very tasty and unusually decorated desserts. The main dishes are mostly good, quite tasty.
The restaurant not only met, but even exceeded our expectations! Very cozy and green summer veranda. The waiters are all polite and cultured. Incredible presentation of food. Many dishes were filmed throughout the serving procedure as it was very unusual.
Religious sites
Nikitinsky Monastery and Holy Spring
The Nikitinsky Monastery began its history in 1010; in the past it served as a monastery that spread Christianity among the Old Believers. The monastery got its name from the Great Martyr Nikita the Gothic. The main treasure of the holy monastery is the relics and chains of St. Nikita the Stylite, who possessed the gift of healing.
The holy spring of Nikita is located a kilometer south of the monastery. The water of the Icy Stream is famous for its healing properties among pilgrims and tourists. According to legend, this source was created by the Monk Nikita the Stylite himself.
Church of John the Baptist

Tourist complex "Alyosha Popovich Dvor": restaurants "Pivovar" and Cantata Terrazza
“Alyosha Popovich Dvor” is a popular tourist complex in the very center of Yaroslavl. In addition to hotel rooms, there are baths, a growling bear, a bar with a night disco and, of course, restaurants. We quite liked the food stalls. It was more pleasant to sit on the closed, bright terrace of the Cantata Terrazza restaurant, but we mostly ordered food from the Pivovar menu. Herring under a fur coat is excellent. Forshmak is unusual, but tasty. Mushroom soup is not bad. But the local craft beer “Pivovar” did not make an impression on us.

Park on Strelka
Another attraction of Yaroslavl is connected to the embankment - the park on Strelka, which is a stepped cape formed by sediment. This is a historical place. It is here that the Kotorosl River flows into the Volga and the city itself was once founded.
Strelka offers stunning views of the river surface. And the park itself does not leave you indifferent. There are light and music fountains, a huge number of lanterns and benches, and flower beds.
For the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl, a commemorative granite column was installed in the park. On top it is crowned with the figure of a double-headed eagle, and the pedestal below is decorated with bas-reliefs and five bronze figures - Yaroslav the Wise, an Orthodox priest, a warrior, a citizen of the city, a woman with a baby in her arms.
Interesting fact! In the warm season, in the park on Strelka you can see a large flowerbed depicting the coat of arms of Yaroslavl.

We stopped here for lunch. Everything is very delicious. Interesting design, excellent service. There is beer that the Plan-b brewery brews specifically for the bar.
Interesting surroundings, good location, veranda with access to the garden, interesting menu.
We followed the arrows to the veranda! Credit to the designer, but grammatical errors need to be corrected. Atmospheric, although a little small-town, but maybe that’s good. The food is high quality, the prices are reasonable, and we just had a nice time.
Quiet, comfortable environment, intelligent audience and, of course, wonderful food! We tried: Salad with quail and spinach; Pumpkin soup with stracciatella; Beef cheeks in unagi sauce; Butcher's steak.

Monument to Yaroslav the Wise
This monument has become a popular attraction in Yaroslavl for a rather original reason - it is depicted on the Russian 1000-ruble banknote.
A five-meter bronze monument was installed on Epiphany Square. Dedicated not only to the personality of Yaroslav the Wise, but also to an important event - the founding of Yaroslavl.
In one hand the prince holds a lowered sword, in the other - a model of the future city. The pedestal is decorated with bas-reliefs that depict the city’s coat of arms, a scene of the battle between the prince and the bear, and Yaroslav the Wise at work. There is a commemorative inscription on the back of the pedestal.

Lucky to book a table for Saturday. Quail pate - divine! Quinoa popcorn is an interesting idea! The cheese plate is quite good. The hot food was not inferior in quality! Service is at a high level!
Perhaps this is the best thing we tried in Yaroslavl. One of the few times when you leave satisfied with everything: the food, the service, and the atmosphere. We tried fish (we took perch and Murmansk cod) and meat (beef medallions. Divine!
