The city of Khimki: the second largest and first most popular in the Moscow region on the Nedvio website

The city of Khimki is located just outside the Moscow Ring Road, on the banks of the canal. Moscow, along the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway (Leningradskoye Shosse), adjacent to the capital from the north-west.

The city with a population of 250,000 people received the status of a separate urban district, and is conditionally divided into Old and New Khimki, and they, in turn, consist of the microdistricts: Skhodnya, Podrezkovo, Klyazma-Starbeevo, Novogorsk, Levoberezhny, Planernaya and Firsanovka.

Story

Origins and formation

Khimki was originally a railway station that existed since 1850. Moscow - St. Petersburg station. The Moscow-Volga Canal was built between 1932 and 1937, on the western bank of the city of Khimki. Khimki was officially founded in 1939.[9]

Khimki in the Battle of Moscow

The German attack began the Battle of Moscow (codenamed Operation Typhoon) on October 2, 1941. As a result of the offensive on a wide front, German troops occupied the village of Krasnaya Polyana (now the city of Lobnya) in the North-West of Moscow. Krasnaya Polyana was captured on November 30.[10]

Many sources claim that Khimki was visited by at least one German army patrol. Likewise, many sources claim that this is the closest point to which the Germans reached Moscow (Khimki at that time was 8 km from the outskirts of Moscow). Among the sources reporting that the Germans visited Khimki, data on the date and division are contradictory and disputed. One of the stories claims that on October 16 in Khimki, a skirmish involving a German motorcycle detachment took place on the Leningradskoye Shosse bridge.[11] but at that time it was far from the main forces of Germany. According to other sources, the patrol arrived in Khimki around November 30 or early December, before returning to its main unit without a fight. The dates given for this second account vary.[12] Myth[ quote needed

] all around the Germans could see the Kremlin 19 km from Khimki.

The Soviet Army's counteroffensive to "eliminate the immediate threat to Moscow" began on December 5 on the Northwestern Front (the area around Khimki northwest of Moscow). On December 6, the Southwestern Front and Western Fronts launched an offensive. German troops were driven back. During the war, Moscow was never again exposed to such a serious ground threat.

The memorial is located 1.8 km southeast of the Planernaya railway station. The memorial was opened on December 6, 1966 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the start of the Soviet counteroffensive. This location is near the intersection with the Moscow-St. Petersburg railway (not far from where the IKEA shopping center has since been built). This memorial and shopping center on the north side of Khimki is 22 kilometers from the center of Moscow. At the time of the conflict, this place was located outside of Khimki. This memorial differs from the Khimki war memorial and moved in 2007 to the Novoluzhinskoye cemetery.

After the war

Khimki was home to several centers for the development of Soviet aerospace defense, which became the main employers for the majority of the city's population. These included research and development enterprises that designed surface-to-air missiles for the S-75, S-125, S-200, S-300 Soviet air defense systems, engines for intercontinental ballistic missiles and satellite launch vehicles, and other types of equipment. For this reason, Khimki has been closed to all foreigners visiting the country, despite the fact that it is located on the highway between Moscow and its major international airport.

In 2010, protests took place in the city against the construction of a new Moscow-St. Petersburg highway through the Khimki forest.[13]

Currently, the city of Khimki is directly adjacent to the territory of the city of Moscow. In recent years, the population of the city of Khimki has continued to grow rapidly due to large-scale residential construction due to its proximity to densely populated areas. Moscow is a metropolis that needs new areas for expansion.

  • in 1930 it is divided into Canal. Moscow with the right and left bank sections and the Levoberezhnaya site assigned to it. Entrance to M11 (toll road) also on the left bank
  • in 1961, the part of the city transferred to Moscow included the Khimki Hospital (known as the “Stravin Clinic” in Master and Margarita)
  • Some Moscow organizations remained in Khimki, such as the Moscow State Art and Cultural University and the Khimki Arena (de facto)
  • The gangway was de jure united, but without adjustment until 2014. De facto, Khimki, Skhodnya and other zones and enclaves were previously a special tariff zone, and this does not cause conflicts on tariffs and legal issues.

Ecology, climate

Khimki Ecology, climate
The climate is temperate continental, seasonality typical for the middle zone. There are obvious, visually noticeable environmental problems. Moscow smog, proximity to the capital, constant traffic jams and the presence of several manufacturing enterprises do not put Khimki in the best position. The administration is actively fighting this. The local landfill is slowly but surely being mothballed. Several production sites were closed, while others installed modern cleaning systems. In addition, the city (compared to the nearest Moscow) is very well landscaped inside, but the huge forest belt that surrounded Khimki has been almost completely cut down. In any case, it is necessary to understand that with such proximity to the capital it is impossible to achieve a good environmental situation.
