New World is another cozy corner of Crimea. The first mentions of it were noted in ancient centuries, when the Tauri and Genoese lived on the territory of the village.
When Crimea was annexed to the Russian Empire, B. Haller received the lands of the New World as a gift. Under him, the territories did not develop or improve in any way. After this, the lands passed from hand to hand, and in 1878 Prince Lev Golitsyn began to buy them. By 1890, he had purchased the entire territory of the modern New World.
The prince was the first to plant vineyards here and develop winemaking. Golitsyn even built a large plant in the New World, which is still in operation. Winemaking still remains the main industry in the city.
It is interesting that for a long time the New World bore a different name - Paradise, which is translated from English as “paradise”. However, in 1912, after Emperor Nicholas II visited the village, the name was changed to Novy Svet.
Episodes of many films were filmed in the New World and its environs. The most famous of them are “Amphibian Man”, “Sportloto-82”, “Pirates of the 20th Century”.

In addition to the healing juniper, you can find another unique plant in the local reserve. This is Stankevich pine (also called Sudak or Pitsunda). Its difference lies in its bizarre shape - it seems to grow outside the laws of gravity, bending bizarrely.

Prince Golitsyn arranged one of the main wine storage facilities in a special place - a natural grotto that sea waves created at the base of Mount Koba-Kaya. Guests were brought here - for example, in 1912 the royal family visited here.
The tastings were accompanied by chamber concerts. Fyodor Chaliapin, who also visited those places, could not resist performing in an unusual place. According to legend, due to the special acoustics, the glass in the hand of the great bass broke, which delighted those around him.

And today music evenings are held there. As a rule, in the evening, so that after the concert there is an opportunity to watch the impressive fireworks display.

The population of Novy Svet is less than 1,500 people, so it has the status of an urban village. However, there is also a main street here - and it is not inferior in beauty to many resort towns.

Through grotto
Through the grotto (Golitsyn trail)
The through grotto is a unique local attraction located on the above-described Golitsyn trail. Formed with the help of natural phenomena, but ennobled by the same prince-winemaker. The grotto is narrow, with a high entrance. On one side there is a metal lattice door. Once upon a time, the prince lined the entrance with stone, making it in the form of an arch. He installed a massive wrought-iron door; unfortunately, it has not survived to this day. Due to possible collapses and huge concentrations of bats, it is not recommended to enter the cavity. But some brave tourists decide to take such a risky step.

The permanent exhibition can be divided into 2 main blocks. The first is dedicated to the life of Lev Sergeevich and is represented by the prince’s surviving personal belongings and awards he received at various exhibitions.

Golitsyn Champagne Museum
The Champagne Museum is located on site. The complex is located in the basement, where the wines were stored. The 19th century style in the halls gives the museum a special charm. In the evenings there are tastings by candlelight. The museum complex has three exhibitions. The first tells about the genealogy of Prince Golitsyn, in the second you will learn the history of winemaking in general. Well, in the third hall you can not only learn how sparkling wines are produced, but also watch the process itself. It is there that a collection of a wide variety of wines is presented. Blue Bay Beach

This place got its name because of the events of 1912. When Prince Golitsyn showed the surrounding beauty to the imperial family, the king liked the bay most and made a stop here.
The water here is distinguished by its noble turquoise color (which is why the second name of the attraction is Blue) and amazing transparency. In addition to its tourist value, Tsarskaya Bay is known for its popularity among filmmakers. Scenes from such cult films as “Amphibian Man”, “Pirates of the 20th Century” and “3+2” were filmed in a picturesque location.

Golitsyn House-Museum
The museum, located in the house of Prince Lev Golitsyn, is no less interesting than its factory. The winemaker’s personal belongings have been preserved in the one-story house, which looks like a one-and-a-half story house (due to the peculiarities of the relief). It’s even strange how so much was preserved there after the revolution. Including musical instruments, paintings, documents and much more. Although some things were irretrievably lost. The house maintains the same atmosphere as during the prince’s life. There is his library, works of art. The exhibition also includes personal belongings of members of the prince's family.

Labyrinth of Tauris
The staircase (labyrinth) of Taurus is located on the mountain Karaul-Oba, already mentioned more than once. You can reach it from the Paradise Valley described above. We need to go around the rock from the north side. I do not recommend going to these regions on your own. It is better to take a guide or book a tour. According to ancient beliefs, the labyrinth was created by an ancient tribe - the Taurians. The staircase is lined with stone steps. Having climbed up, you will find yourself on a spacious observation deck with incredible views of another natural attraction of Crimea - Cape Kapchik and the amazing Blue Bay.

Monastyrka
Excavations at Perch are still ongoing. Thanks to them, researchers discovered ruins on mountain slopes that date back to different historical periods. The Byzantine monastery, which is located below the main peak, is best preserved and has survived to this day. Once upon a time there was a church, cells and an internal utility courtyard. Scientists even managed to find the remains of monks buried here. This place was nicknamed “Monastery” by local residents.
According to scientists, the monastery appeared in these places in the 8th century, but in the 15th century the monks were forced to leave it. Most likely, this happened due to the invasion of the Turks on the Crimean Peninsula. Over the course of several centuries, the monastery collapsed and was covered with earth. After the excavations, the “Monastery” was again left to the mercy of fate, since no restoration work was carried out and the monument was not preserved.
Where to stay
Compared to such resorts as Alushta and Sudak, the village cannot boast such a variety of housing options. But there are still good hotels and guest houses here. Tourists will be able to choose the appropriate option for themselves, taking into account their wishes and financial capabilities. Since Novy Svet is very popular among vacationers, especially in the summer season, you should take care of renting housing in advance. Accommodation options:
- Private sector. We are talking about private apartments or small houses. Standard amenities - TV, air conditioning, bathroom. Many areas have their own parking and free internet.
- Guest houses. There are several rooms of different levels of comfort - from economy to luxury. The range of services is no different from the private sector. Superior rooms may have a minibar and private terraces.
- Hotels. Almost all hotels are built on the first beach line and have windows overlooking the sea coast, allowing you to admire the beautiful scenery every day. They also have rooms of different classes: economy, standard, luxury. Many of them provide conditions for a comfortable family holiday with children.
The most expensive housing is in July and August, when the resort is most crowded.
Mount Falcon
The height of Mount Sokol or Kush-Kaya (translated from Crimean Tatar as “bird rock”) is 473 meters above sea level, located near the village of Novy Svet. You can climb the mountain via several routes from 1st to 6th category of difficulty. The southern part of the mountain, facing the sea, is a rocky wall; you can climb it only with climbing equipment. The northern part of Sokol is more friendly; you can climb it on footpaths without special physical training.
From the top of this landmark of the New World, magnificent panoramas of the New World and Sudak, Cape Meganom and Demerdzhi open up.
Golitsyn Tower
This is also the name of the palace of Prince Golitsyn, built in the 19th century. In fact, there are three towers. They are made of gray stone in a mixed style and resemble either a knight's castle or a Moorish-style palace. You won’t be able to get inside the tower; today administrative offices are located there. But there are sightseeing tours outside. The Golitsyn Tower became famous not only for its unique architectural style and garden, but also for the people who stayed in the palace. In addition to Emperor Nicholas II, the prince's friend, Chaliapin, Gorky, and Chekhov were there. And Leo Tolstoy generally lived in the castle for almost a whole year. One of the two ATMs in the village is also located here.

Mount Percham
The highest natural landmark of the New World is Mount Perchem, its height is 577 meters. This is a large mountain range, shaped like a curved arc, located slightly to the side of Sudak, on the southwestern side. Dense forest grows on the mountain peaks, thanks to which Perchem from a distance resembles a lush green cap. The mountain got its name from the Tatar “Perchem-Kaya”, which translated means “Rock with a forelock”.
Archaeologists have found a variety of fossils on the mountain slopes, left over from the Jurassic period, the most interesting of which are single corals. In the 18th-19th centuries, tools of primitive man were found in these areas. At different times, sandstone mining was carried out on Perchem-Kai; work was carried out until the end of the 18th century.
