The Caucasus Mountains begin in Novorossiysk; the city itself is located in a large bay. Large liners can enter it; Novorossiysk is one of the largest ports in Russia. The city is more industrial than resort, but this does not mean that you cannot have a good rest here.
There is a cement plant in Novorossiysk, which negatively affects the environment. The plant is modern, something is being done there to combat harmful emissions, but the surrounding areas are still covered with a layer of dust - roads, trees, houses, mountains. Moving into this area is a bad idea.
There are also very high mountains in Novorossiysk. Therefore, from autumn to spring Nord-Ost blows periodically. Wind speeds in winter can exceed 100 km per hour. It's hot in summer, and the sea in the bay warms up very quickly.
You need to choose a beach for relaxation just as carefully as you choose a place to live.
Beaches of Novorossiysk
Novorossiysk.
View of the city and the bay from the Seven Winds observation deck. Novorossiysk has many beaches. From the shore of any of them you can see the opposite side of the bay. There is no feeling of limitless space; you cannot see how ships go beyond the horizon. This makes you feel like you are not on the sea, but on a lake.
City Beach
Not the cleanest, but conveniently located, so there are always a lot of people there.
The shore is covered with medium-sized pebbles. The beach has paths to the water, and there are places for swimming for children and people with disabilities. Several breakwaters go into the water from the shore, you can dive from them - the depth allows.
The infrastructure is good. There are changing rooms, showers, toilets, lifeguards and a first-aid post.
You can hide from the heat under the awnings. There are rental points for sun loungers and umbrellas, water slides and other attractions. Outdoor sports equipment has been installed.
Aleksino Beach
The most well-groomed and comfortable beach in the city, and there are fewer people here than on the city beach.
Located in the cleanest southern part of the city. The shore is pebble, and in some places the stones are quite large, so it is better to come here in coral slippers or other comfortable shoes.
Despite the rocks, entry into the water is easy; a few meters from the shore the sandy bottom begins. It goes down sharply, this is a plus for those who want to dive, but a minus for those who are vacationing with small children. There is a children's area, but during the season there are a lot of people there.
Aleksino has everything the same as the city beach, including large canopies. There is only one cafe on the beach with high prices.
Neptune Beach
Located near the cinema of the same name.
Along this beach there is a landscaped promenade with bicycle rentals. This is a convenient area for cycling.
The shore is covered with fairly large pebbles. For a long vacation, it is better to rent a sun lounger. On the embankment there are cafes and shops, children's playgrounds, and shady squares.
The beach infrastructure is poorly developed; there are retail outlets, changing rooms, toilets, but no showers. The entrance to the water is very gentle. It is not very crowded here - this is the main advantage of the beach.
Sudzhuk Spit Beach
Lovers of warm water will like it.
The beach is located near Malaya Zemlya right on the spit. If you want to relax in a less crowded place, you can stay outside the official beach, where the wild beach begins.
The Sudzhuk Spit separates the sea from the estuary, the water exchange is very weak, but the water here is still clean. The temperature is always a couple of degrees higher than in the open sea.
Sudzhuk Spit is a great place to relax in September, when the sea begins to cool down. Even at the beginning of autumn there is no wind or strong waves here.
Beach on Malaya Zemlya
Formally, this is not a beach, but many resort guests do not mind combining a visit to the memorial with a beach holiday.
There is no infrastructure here, not even toilets. But this is a very beautiful place with clean water. It's calm here. In summer you can see people doing yoga on the beach here.
Dolphins often swim here - one at a time or in whole schools.

Sights of Novorossiysk
Since the city is not exactly a resort, there is not much entertainment here. But there is something to see, especially if you are interested in cultural and educational leisure. There are many memorable places here, each with its own history.
Monuments of Novorossiysk
Each of them is part of the city’s history.
Frontier of Defense
Immediately at the entrance to the city there is a memorial “Border of Defense”; arms with machine gun butts protrude from a huge wall.
It was on this line that during the Great Patriotic War the Soviet army defended the city. The scale of the monument is impressive; many people feel uneasy when they come close.
There is one unusual installation near the memorial. The frame of a shot carriage. It became a symbol of the city. This particular carriage was part of the barricade in 1942. Then German troops fired at all structures from the ground and air. There are more than 1,000 bullet holes in the car frame alone.
The barricade stood, our troops defended the city.
Cruiser "Mikhail Kutuzov"
The cruiser "Mikhail Kutuzov" on the Admiral Serebryakov embankment
is located on the Admiral Serebryakov embankment - the main one in the city. Now there is a museum inside the cruiser.
opening hours here.
Right next to the cruiser, on the edge of the embankment, there is a monument to a beautiful girl with a child in her arms. She looks into the sea and waves, the child stretches his hand towards the sea.
Giving water
Not all monuments in Novorossiysk are connected with the events of the war years.
“Giving water” is a girl who sits on her knees and stretches her hands forward, palms up. Water flows from her palms, and pigeons often sit on them.
This is a modern reconstruction of an old monument that has been corroded by rust. Both the old and new versions of the monument have the same meaning. They were created in honor of the water pipeline carried out from Kuban. This event occurred only in the 70s of the last century. Before this, fresh water was brought to Novorossiysk by tankers from Tuapse.
Monument to Geshe Kozodoev
The monument to the hero of the film “The Diamond Arm” was erected on the Sudzhuk Spit.
Gesha walks along the platform, in his hands he has a stick on which his underpants are developing. The monument is completely different from Andrei Mironov, who played this role, but it looks funny. It will be difficult to pass by and not take a photo.
If you are walking around Novorossiysk and see some kind of monument, take a couple of minutes of time and read information about it on the Internet. In this city there are memorial sites at every step. Even the most inconspicuous thing can have an interesting story and its own catchy meaning.
Malaya Zemlya
A very beautiful and memorable place. It’s nice to just walk here, admiring the views of the bay, sea, and mountains.
Novorossiysk is a hero city, and the personification of this is Malaya Zemlya.
During the Great Patriotic War, the defense of this small piece of land lasted 225 days . The memorial complex was formed around the bridgehead created in 1943.
The symbol of Malaya Zemlya is a memorial made in the shape of the bow of a ship.
The building looks unusual; there is a museum inside it. Once on Malaya Zemlya, regardless of the purpose of the visit, it is customary to stop and honor with a minute of silence the thousands of soldiers who died here but defended the city.
Tsemes Grove
Novorossiysk cannot be called an environmentally friendly city, but there are clean places here, almost untouched by civilization. For example, Tsemes Grove.
From the city center you can get to the grove by bus or minibus. The stop is called Tsemesskaya Grove.
Tsemes Grove is the “lungs” of the city. It stretches along the Tsemes River. Area - 150 hectares.
In addition to its ecological importance, the grove has another purpose - it is a windbreak.
Follow the dirt paths deeper into the park. There are dozens of plant species, colorful butterflies, large but harmless beetles, squirrels, and birds chirping everywhere. Some species of plants and insects of the Tsemes Grove are listed in the Red Book.
Where to go in Novorossiysk with children
The city offers young travelers a very rich cultural and educational program. Among the interesting places in Novorossiysk there are many where a child will spend time with great pleasure.
Planetarium named after Yu. Gagarin
- Opening hours: daily, from 10:00 to 18:00. Lectures are held every hour.
- Ticket price: adult 220 rubles, children under 13 years old 150 rubles.
- Telephone.
- Website: https://www.novoros.planetariums.ru
- Address: st. Sovetov, 53. Transport stop “Park im. Lenin".
Young travelers, as well as their parents, can learn a lot of interesting things about stars, nebulae, and the secrets of distant galaxies and the solar system in the Novorossiysk planetarium. Visitors will be invited on an exciting journey through the vastness of the Universe, accompanied by an educational lecture on space and astronomy.
Those who wish will be able to see planets and luminaries through the lens of a powerful optical telescope. Some of the institution’s programs are designed specifically for children of primary and school age.
Exhibition of military equipment from the Second World War
- Opening hours: daily, from 10:00 to 19:00.
- Ticket price: adult 50 rubles, student 30 rubles, children 20 rubles.
- Telephone.
- Address: Lenin Avenue. Transport stop "Malaya Zemlya".
As you know, military equipment is extremely attractive to teenagers, but visiting this open-air museum will be incredibly interesting for adult travelers as well. Here you can see several dozen samples of military equipment that actually participated in the battles of the Second World War.
Particularly popular among boys are the IS-3 and T-34 tanks, the main naval gun of the destroyer “Piercing”, 102 mm caliber, a howitzer made in 1931 and a BR-1 gun, model 1935. In addition, the exhibition includes fragments of military aircraft and warships. The collection of ship anchors from different eras is of interest.
PKiO named after Frunze
- Opening hours: daily, from 10:00 to 20:00.
- Address: st. Tolstoy. Transport stop “Park im. Frunze".
One of the best places for a family holiday in Novorossiysk is a small but very picturesque park near the embankment. Walking through the recreation with neat alleys laid with paving stones, you can admire the colorful sculptures “Cheerful Red Cat”, “Parrots”, “Giraffes”, and enjoy the freshness emanating from the fountain.
Sitting on an elegant bridge over a small pond, it’s pleasant to watch its inhabitants - fussy mallards, phlegmatic carps and turtles. The park has several playgrounds for children, sports grounds, and attractions.
Observation deck "Seven Winds"
The most mysterious place in the city.
The observation deck is located high above the city. And “Seven Winds” is the name of the restaurant, of which at the moment only walls and a dilapidated roof remain.
There is a beautiful legend that the “Seven Winds” is home to the ghost of a girl who died here at her own wedding at the hands of the guy she rejected. The inconsolable groom committed suicide, and members of the bride's family began to die one by one. Those who have seen the ghost say that it appears in the form of a girl in a wedding dress.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, there are several videos online that make you think.
But if mysticism doesn’t appeal to you, it’s still worth climbing the Seven Winds. Nowhere else will you have such a beautiful view of the city. From here the entire bay is at your fingertips.
Most popular beaches
The most popular beach areas of Novorossiysk include both city beaches and beaches of Novorossiysk villages. Let's talk about the most famous and visited of them.
Central Beach
Like every seaside city, Novorossiysk also has a Central City Beach. This public and comfortably equipped beach is the first beach area on the western coast of the bay south of the Seaport. It is located between Forum Square and the Leisure Park named after. M. Frunze, and stretches along the Admiral Serebryakov Embankment.
Admiral Serebryakov embankment runs along Central and other city beaches
This beach is open 24 hours a day, but keep in mind that its official opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. That is, rescuers and medical workers are present here only during this period.
In addition to the usual beach equipment in the form of sun loungers, umbrellas, changing rooms, etc. there is a good entertainment service here. These are not only the most popular water attractions, but also exercise equipment, a sports ground, bicycles, etc. There are no problems with showers and toilets here. There are also shops with related products. Directly from the beach you can go on a sea voyage on the ship you like.
The Central Beach has all the amenities and all the entertainment
The coastal surface is small-pebble, the descent into the sea is gentle, but quite steep. From a small pier you can go down into the water using metal stairs. The water off the coast is warm, but not clear. There is a separate swimming pool for children where they can splash around in complete safety. Also for little vacationers there are our own attractions in the form of trampolines, inflatable slides, etc. There is also a special swimming area on the Central Beach for people with disabilities.
A great convenience when visiting the Central Beach is that there are a sufficient number of catering establishments near it, from restaurants to fast food kiosks, so the issue of food here is solved once or twice.
Novorossiysk port is located quite close to the Central Beach
The disadvantages of this beach include such factors as the presence of garbage that tourists leave behind, and beach workers do not have time to clean up. You also need to keep in mind that the ships of the Novorossiysk port are quite close to the beach and therefore it is not recommended to swim far enough.
Part of the large-pebble beach, located a little to the south behind the breakwater, is called the Beach at Admiral Serebryakov Embankment. This 300-meter area is also quite comfortable and equipped and is, as it were, a continuation of the Central Beach.
Neptune Beach
One of the most popular partially equipped beach areas in Novorossiysk is Neptune Beach, which is also located along Serebryakov Embankment, but much further south than Central Beach.
Neptune Beach is also located along the Embankment near the Church of Peter and Fevronia
This beach is located near one of the popular tourist boulevards, Chernyakhovsky, which starts from a sculptural monument symbolizing the Front Line of Defense of Malaya Zemlya. Chernyakhovsky Boulevard ends with the Church of Peter and Fevronia, from which this beach strip stretches in a southern direction.
This almost kilometer-long beach is quite uncrowded, and therefore it is preferred by locals. This beach has not yet acquired sufficient infrastructure, but its pebble surface and gentle and convenient descent into the sea compensate for this gap. In any case, everything you need is available here - changing rooms, rental of beach equipment, entertainment.
"Neptune" is one of the popular city beaches of Novorossiysk
An important advantage of this beach is the presence of spacious parking, which many beaches cannot boast of. Because of the convenient descent into the sea, vacationers with children also like to come here.
Beach "Sudzhuk Spit"
At the southeastern tip of the western coast of Novorossiysk Bay there is one of the most popular city beaches, which is called the “Sudzhuk Spit”. This territory is truly a unique natural narrow strip between the sea and Solenye Lake. The beach area stretches almost along the entire spit, which gradually narrows from 200 to 10 meters.
The Sudzhuk Spit is located between the Salt Lake and the Black Sea
At the beginning of the beach, a small lagoon is formed, well heated by the sun. There are rarely waves here, and there is a very convenient descent into the water. And the water itself is perfectly clean. That’s why vacationers with children and not only them like to come here.
The beach infrastructure of this beach is also at a fairly high level. There are changing rooms, toilets, showers. During working hours, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas. There is a special swimming area for people with disabilities. Rescuers and medical personnel are working. In addition to popular water attractions offering banana boat rides, jet skis, boats, etc., active recreation enthusiasts can visit any of the sports grounds and play volleyball, football, or work out on the horizontal bars.
The beach of the Sudzhuk Spit is comfortable, equipped and has developed infrastructure
Children will also find something to do here. Where it is more interesting to spend time - on the playground, on inflatable slides or trampolines, each child decides for himself. On the Sudzhuk Spit, named after the fortress that once existed here, there are cafes and bars where you can have a snack during the day and have fun in the evening. After all, in the evenings, discos start operating right in the open air next to the cafe.
In addition to all the benefits of civilization, we must not forget about the beauty of the local nature, which looks very impressive from here. Therefore, excellent photographs are obtained here against the backdrop of the bay, mountains, sea, sunset, etc.
Sudzhuk Spit is a very picturesque natural place on the southern outskirts of Novorossiysk
By the way, at the beginning of this beach area in a small lagoon there is another well-equipped beach called “Kozlodoev Lagoon”. Purely geographically, this beach seems to transform into the Sudzhuk Spit beach. Not far from the shore in the “Kozlodoev Lagoon” there is a monument to this movie character from the film “The Diamond Arm”, whose image was created by actor Andrei Mironov.
This monument today is one of the popular objects for photo shoots, although it has nothing to do with the filming of the film. The fact is that this well-remembered episode with Gesha Kozlodoev walking on water was filmed in the Tuapse region near the A. Kiselev House-Museum, or rather near the rock named after this Russian artist.
Monument to Kozlodoev one of the famous sights of Novorossiysk
And here this monument was erected, as they say, just like that. To decorate the coastal strip and to the delight of vacationers. You can get to these beaches from the Malaya Zemlya bus stop. There is paid parking for cars.
Aleksino Beach
If you reach the end of the Sudzhuk Spit beach and turn right, you can get to another wonderful Novorossiysk beach - Aleksino, a strip running between the sea and the Salt Lake. This well-maintained and fairly comfortable large-pebble beach is second only to the “Sudzhuk Spit” in size.
Aleksino Beach is located on the other corner of Salt Lake
Walking on large pebbles is not very comfortable, but in special shoes it is quite bearable. The entrance to the sea here is gentle and at a short distance from the shore turns into sand. The beach infrastructure is very good, there are cafes and many retail outlets. The beach is kept clean.
You can get here by your own car, or you can also use public transport, focusing on the stops “Aleksino Beach” and “Palace of Creativity”. If you are staying in the southern district of Novorossiysk, then it is not difficult to get here on foot.
For many vacationers, Aleksino Beach is one of the most favorite
Here the beaches of the city of Novorossiysk end and the beaches of the village of Myskhako begin. On the opposite side of Novorossiysk Bay, on its eastern coast there are few beach areas. Volochaevsky is considered one of the cleanest beaches on the eastern coast, but the issue of creating an industrial zone there is currently being decided.
There are several wild beaches on the east coast of Novorossiysk
Another beach – “Barbarino” – is almost wild. It is abandoned, inconvenient for descent and littered with garbage. And then the beaches of the village of Kabardinka begin.
Myskhako village beach
The central small-pebble beach of the village of Myskhako has become popular relatively recently. Previously, mainly local residents and owners of gardening partnerships located in this village vacationed here. Today, the 300-meter beach strip has been turned into a comfortable recreation area, equipped with all the necessary infrastructure.
The beach of the village of Myskhako is very comfortable and is located in a very beautiful place
There are cafes, paid toilets, beach equipment rental, water attractions, and children's play areas. There is a diving center and scuba diving enthusiasts can explore sunken ships and aircraft. The beach reaches 40 meters in width, and you can always easily find free space here. The entrance to the sea is gentle and convenient for vacationers with children.
However, recently it is believed that sewage is entering the water near this beach, so swimming here has become prohibited. But this problem is being solved and may soon be completely resolved. In any case, in the vicinity of this picturesque village there are many wild and recreational areas.
On the outskirts of Myskhako there is a mountain of the same name, which is popularly called Mount Sorcerer
By the way, the word Myskhako is translated as “Cape of Dolphins” and indeed from here you can often watch these friendly sea animals frolic in the sea. And you can read about the history of this Novorossiysk village and its main attractions here.
Shirokaya Balka Beach
The village of Shirokaya Balka
One of the cleanest, most spacious and environmentally friendly beaches in Novorossiysk is the beach area of the village of Shirokaya Balka. About 700 meters of the 3-kilometer coastline here is occupied by an equipped public beach. This beach is located away from industrial enterprises and city bustle. Some vacationers come on vacation directly to this village or stay in neighboring Myskhako. There are also those who stay in Novorossiysk and come to this coast by bus or their own car.
The beach in the village of Shirokaya Balka is considered one of the most environmentally friendly in Novorossiysk
The coast of Shirokaya Balka is very picturesque and spacious. In the beach covering you can find medium and large pebbles. The depth of the dive increases very quickly. Due to the fact that the sea here is open, the water is renewed very quickly and is therefore always clean and transparent.
The beach has everything you need - changing rooms, toilets, showers, rental of sunbeds, umbrellas, boats, catamarans, etc. There is also the most traditional range of water activities in the form of banana boat rides, sailboats, etc. If you wish, you can use the services of diving centers or try yourself in flyboarding.
The shoreline of Shirokaya Balka is located away from the industrial zones of the city
There are children's playgrounds, and there are rescue and medical centers. Along the entire developed beach area there is a local promenade where there are cafes, snack bars, restaurants, haberdashery and souvenir shops. After sunset, bars and nightclubs are open here. Therefore, youth groups love to relax in this place.
Part of the beach area belongs to various hotels, hotels or tourist centers that are located in the village. These are such beach areas as the Beach of the boarding house "Metroclub", the Beach of the recreation center "Blue Torch", the Beach of the boarding house named after. Maistrenko and many others. Holidays on any of these beaches are free and comfortable.
The beach of the boarding house "Metroclub" is one of many departmental beaches
Beach "Abrau Beach"
The village of Abrau-Durso
One of the rather elite equipped beaches of Novorossiysk is the Abrau Beach Beach, located six kilometers from the well-known village of Abrau-Durso. It occupies a narrow isthmus between the coast and Lake Maly Liman and is the property of the Abrau-Durso Wine Tourism Center. This beach area is paid for for non-clients of the Imperial Hotel and the Round Lake Estate. If you want to relax on this beautiful coastline, but agree to less comfortable conditions, then on both sides of this beach there are completely free public areas.
Beach "Abrau Beach" is one of the paid beaches of Novorossiysk
The Abrau Beach beach is distinguished by its white, stylish, respectable buildings located close to the shore. And beach services are distinguished by a high level and comfortable conditions. The White Gate, where the administration desk is located, is the beginning of a stone-paved path that stretches along the entire beach area, and on its sides there are booths for changing rooms, showers, toilets and a first-aid post.
For vacationers, in addition to traditional sun loungers with canopies, there are lounge areas with sofas, armchairs and tables. These areas are very comfortable for small groups to relax. The terrace consists of two levels, there are places for sunbathing, and there are places in the shade for relaxing. Also on the terrace you can visit a small cafe where you can drink any soft drink, juice, or cocktail.
Even the Abrau Beach pier is lined with soft covering
The beach surface is medium and small pebble. When entering the sea, which itself is quite flat, you may encounter quite large stones. And although there is a special platform on the shore for entering the sea, many people prefer to dive into it from the pier using convenient stairs. By the way, even the pier itself is covered with a soft and comfortable coating. There are always lifeguards on the beach, for whom there is even a helipad.
For emergencies, Abrau Beach has a helipad
You can only get to this beach, remote from populated areas, by your own car or by taxi. But visiting this amazing natural corner of Novorossiysk at least once is very, very interesting.
Durso Beach
Khutor Durso
Many vacationers today prefer to stay not in big cities, but in small, quiet resort villages, which include the Durso farm, located near the famous Abrau-Durso. In the Durso farm there is an excellent 300-meter pebble beach area of the same name, quite wide (up to 40 meters), picturesque and kept clean.
The beach of the Durso farm is small, but cozy and picturesque
The entrance to the sea here is gentle and characterized by the absence of sharp stones. During the tourist season, the traditional infrastructure operates on the beach, consisting of rental equipment, water attractions, all kinds of shops, a team of medical workers and rescuers.
Beach "South Ozereevka"
South Ozereevka village
The South Ozereevka beach, located on the coast of the village of the same name, attracts vacationers with its clear sea, spacious beach area with developed infrastructure and picturesque surroundings. The village of the same name becomes year after year an increasingly full-fledged Novorossiysk resort.
South Ozereevka beach is suitable for families with children
The 500-meter beach area is equipped with everything necessary for a wonderful beach time. There are canopies, sun loungers, changing rooms, food and souvenir stalls, and there are doctors and rescuers. For lovers of active recreation, in addition to traditional water attractions, there are diving services, sea fishing trips and even expeditions to sunken ships.
There is a beautiful embankment in South Ozereevka
Since many families with children come to Yuzhnaya Ozereevka on vacation, there are playgrounds, inflatable trampolines and water slides for children on the beach.
Neighborhoods of Novorossiysk
While vacationing in Novorossiysk, you can’t help but stop by Abrau-Dyurso, Kabardinka and Safari Park in Gelendzhik.
Abrau-Durso
Abrau-Durso is the birthplace of Russian champagne.
The Russian Wine House is located here. Champagne from Abrau-Durso is valued not only in Russia, but throughout the world.
I wrote more about Abrau-Durso here.
Pay attention not only to the Wine House, but also to the estuary, as well as to the beach. The beach in Abrau-Durso is better than any of the beaches in Novorossiysk. This is not a bay, but the open sea.
Where to stay in Novorossiysk
Novorossiysk is not the most popular resort town, so housing prices are much lower than in Gelendzhik or Anapa.
It is still better to book accommodation in advance, but the likelihood of cheap accommodation upon arrival is higher than in other cities on the coast. This is the dilemma.
Find out what part of the city the housing is located in. Not only the distance to the sea is important, but also the distance from the cement plant.
The entire eastern part of the city is covered with a layer of dust. This circumstance will spoil the rest, especially for allergy sufferers.
You can rent a double room in a small private hotel for a day for less than 1000 rubles . Here's an example: Room by the sea.
Despite the low cost, this hotel is located near the beach. There are many hotels of this type in Novorossiysk.
You can stay not in a guest house, but rent an apartment. A one-room comfortable apartment with the ability to accommodate up to four people will cost from 1800 rubles / day: Apartment in the center by the sea.
Similar proposals are common in Novorossiysk. Apartment owners often provide the same services as hotels. For example, airport transfer or bike rental.
You can rent an apartment with two bedrooms and all conditions in Novorossiysk for 5,000 rubles . For example, this loft.
Apartments of a similar level in other cities on the coast will cost at least one and a half times more.
You can search for accommodation options not only on Booking, but also on popular ad sites - Avito and Yula.
City attractions
Admiral Serebryakov Embankment
If you come to Novorossiysk, no matter whether on business or on vacation, you will definitely, one way or another, find yourself on the embankment, stretching along the coastline for more than 3 kilometers. The embankment is one of the favorite places for city residents to walk and hold festive events.
, it offers panoramic views of the sea station, the port, the center of Novorossiysk, the cruiser "Mikhail Kutuzov" (more on that a little later), the bay and the mountains. When weather conditions coincide, on the mountains you can see a unique natural phenomenon, popularly called “beard” - clouds descending from the mountains.
To avoid walking, you can rent various vehicles. Bicycle paths run along the embankment. There are also souvenir stalls and catering establishments (KFC chains, Papa Johns, local restaurants). We must pay tribute to the local administration, a lot of effort has been invested in the landscaping - paving stones, many benches, fountains, beautiful flower beds have been laid.
Not far from the cruiser there is an installation “I love Novorossiysk”, which is a popular spot for selfies. There are several city beaches by the sea. The article about the sights of Novorossiysk will also talk about the city’s monuments, many of which are installed either on the embankment or within walking distance from it.

Cruiser "Mikhail Kutuzov"
Moored to the left of the Marine Station. It is listed in the UNESCO catalog as a historical value and a center of national importance. The organization of the museum on the ship began in 1994, when the council of Kutuzov veterans proposed preserving it for history as the last of the series of Project 68bis cruisers.
Before this, the cruiser was based in Sevastopol, but on August 25, 2001, it arrived at the port of Novorossiysk. And on February 6, 2012, by order of the Minister of Defense, the “Ship of Military Glory” Mikhail Kutuzov” was included in the staff of the Central Naval Museum. Once it employed more than 1,000 people; now the staff does not exceed 20 employees.
I strongly recommend spending 200 rubles (ticket price in 2020) and taking a tour. I can’t speak for women, but she will make a strong impression on men. Professional guides will take you around the decks and cabins. How to be immersed in the history of the ship at sea, but the ship’s history is very interesting and dates back to 1951. They will tell you about the life and organization of the cruiser’s work.
The narration of the life of the crew is informative, because... the ship was a completely autonomous unit. Everything necessary for life and work was produced right there, from cooking to the printing of the ship's newspaper. For me, for example, it is still a mystery where 1,500 rooms are located in the ship’s hull.

We recommend getting to know the city and its surroundings from Tripster's professional local guides. Interesting well-known and unfamiliar places in group and individual excursions: Novorossiysk, Abrau-Dyurso (lake and production of sparkling wines), Kerch, Gelendzhik and Kabardinka, wineries of the Krasnodar region. |
Historical Museum-Reserve
For history buffs, there is a direct route to the Novorossiysk Historical Museum-Reserve, located on Sovetov Street, 58. The collection includes more than 150,000 exhibits from the main fund. The exhibitions clearly show the entire history of development from the moment of the first settlement to the present day.
Founded on July 7, 1916 on the initiative of the vice-governor of the Black Sea province. Every year the museum receives more than 200,000 visitors, 3.5 thousand excursions and 40 exhibitions are held.

Holy Assumption Cathedral
On the corner of Gladkova and Vidova streets. Built in 1904. Previously it was called the Assumption (cemetery) Church. It must be said that this is the only temple in Novorossiysk that has operated from the moment of its opening to the present day, with the exception of a short period. In 1938 it was closed for some time. There was no priest.
A Sunday school has been opened since 1991. In addition to lessons for children and adults, screenings of Orthodox documentaries and feature films are held. There is also a canteen for the poor, where from 50 to 100 people eat per day. In the temple there is an Ark with particles of holy relics.

Memorial "Defense Line"
Located on the eastern shore of Tsemes Bay. In the fall of 1942, German troops tried to break through to the Caucasus, to oil in Baku and Grozny. They were stopped in Novorossiysk. A memorial was erected near the cement walls. The best view and understanding of the scale comes from the car windows. The “line of defense” passes over the highway. Nearby, on the sea side, stands a shot carriage with more than 10,000 holes.
There are commemorative plaques on a separate pedestal. If you come from Novorossiysk, there is a parking lot next to the complex. There is an area for viewing and walking near the monument-carriage. There are interesting views of cement and oil refineries and the mountains behind them with mined rock.

Cement Industry Museum
If there were no cement factories in the city (at one time there were 5 of them), there would not have been such an attraction as the cement industry museum. Not far from the Proletary memorial on Sukhumi Highway, 60, the only cement museum in the country and the world opened its doors to the public in 1979.
It is dedicated not to cement in general, but to local and Russian cement companies, the creation of cement and equipment. Most of the exhibition is dedicated to workers, dynasties, labor and WWII veterans.
The exhibition is located in seven halls.
- Hall 1. You will learn about the invention of cement and how it came to be in Russia. Among the exhibits is a desk with documents and belongings of Ponomarev I.F. - founder of the silicate and cement industry in the USSR.
- Hall 2. All about life and work at cement factories before the revolution. Original tools and trademarks of other manufactures are presented.
- Hall 3. Life of workers outside of work. Interior items, kitchen utensils, photographs from personal archives.
- Hall 4. Find out how the cement industry developed in the 20-40s of the 20th century. A construction plan for the country has been presented. The central exposition of the hall is a model of a cement factory in the Moscow region. The interior of a worker’s apartment from the 1930s is also presented here.
- Hall 5, 6. Dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. About the contribution of workers to the cause of victory. Personal belongings, documents, cement bombs and mines and much more.
- Technology room. Dedicated to the restoration of industry in general and modern life in particular after the Second World War. There are a number of models that give an idea of the mechanism for creating cement.

Vin
The history of the winery goes back 150 years. Initially, on the site of the village of Myskhako, Dr. Penchun M.F. laid out vineyards. Mikhail Fedorovich personally supervised the work and selected grape varieties. Production continued to operate during the war. In 1943, the command post of Lieutenant Colonel L.I. Brezhnev was located on its territory. The winery was brought back to life in 2022. At the same time, licenses were obtained for the production of the protected geographical indication “Kuban. Novorossiysk".
Excursions are available by appointment. Included:
- History of the winery.
- Visiting workshops and talking about production technologies.
- Visit to the 19th century cellars and the hall for the party elite, opened in 1974.
- Tasting of sparkling and still wines (8 pieces).
At the address Tsentralnaya, 1, Myskhako village, there is a company store with products without extra charges.

"Malaya Zemlya" memorial
Located on the Sudzhuk Spit, opened in 1982, “Malaya Zemlya” has become one of the famous attractions, visited by both tourists and local residents. Malaya Zemlya is a part of land 4 by 7 kilometers in the area of the village of Stanichka, which is south of Novorossiysk. On February 4, 1943, part of the troops under the command of Major Kunikov gained a foothold in this area after landing from the sea.
The bridgehead was held by our troops for 225 days. 21 defenders of Malaya Zemlya received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The size and scope of the fighting is evidenced by the fact that weapons metal and the remains of fortifications were exported in whole trains. The solution is very original - it resembles a warship leaving the sea.
Inside there is a gallery of military glory. Stairs lead visitors past bas-reliefs of heroes and names of units of the troops who held the defense and fought for the liberation of the city. At the top of the stairs they converge at the composition “Heart”. In the bronze heart, in a recess shaped like Malaya Zemlya, lies a capsule with the names of soldiers killed in battle. The list is updated every year. The chorale “Memory” by E. Ptichkin plays in the background. I strongly recommend visiting the memorial. The feeling and atmosphere are indescribable. Individual and group visits are available. Tickets are sold at the door.

Gagarin Planetarium
A few houses away from the museum-reserve (Sovetov St., 53), the Yu.A. Gagarin Planetarium has been operating since 1961. Open daily from 10.00. Movie shows every hour. The last one is at 17.00 (in summer at 19.00). In addition to film screenings, various events are held, mainly lectures. A serious approach to the materials is evidenced by the fact that all 4 female lecturers have been working in the planetarium for more than 25 years. They prepare fascinating lectures for visitors on the history of space, astronomy, geography, etc. The hall has an optical-mechanical projector that displays various celestial phenomena on a dome screen 8 meters in diameter. The hall seats 60 spectators.

Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Grigor Lusavorich
The Church of St. George the Illuminator was built in 2008. Construction took 8 years using donations. The work was supervised by Honored Architect of Kuban L.A. Avalyan. Now it is the spiritual center of the local Armenian diaspora.
As the abbot of Ter-Komitas says, the elements of the temple are deeply symbolic. For example, 4 domes with crosses symbolize 4 movements in Christianity. The two floors represent the human and divine principles of Christ.
From above, the temple resembles a cross. Address: st. Sacco and Vanzetti, 15, Eastern District. You can visit the church (it will be on the way) when you return to Novorossiysk after visiting the “Frontier of Defense” memorial and the Museum of the Cement Industry.

Memorial complex "Death Valley"
One of the brightest attractions of Novorossiysk and a must-see on excursions around the city. Highly recommended for a visit by me. The complex clearly shows the scale of the fighting on Malaya Zemlya. Opened in 1984, designed and built by local architects under the leadership of G.N. Najarian.
The memorial consists of objects:
- Demonstration map-scheme
- Monument "Explosion"
- Steles "Stone Calendar", showing the days of the most fierce battles with a description of the actions of the enemy and our troops
- “The Well of Life” is practically the only source of drinking water
- "Front edge"
- Command posts of the 8th Guards and 108th Rifle Brigades
- Planted by Brezhnev L.I. sycamore
The complex is located in the western part of the village of Myskhako.

Novorossiysk seaport
Of course, getting to the port itself is problematic, but you can enjoy its views from almost any coastal part of the city. The views from the eastern part are larger; most of the berths are concentrated there. The boundaries of the port include the following harbors: Inner, ship repair, Aleksino village, Caspian Pipeline Consortium sea terminal, Sheskharis oil harbor.
The port provides services for transshipment of crude oil and petroleum products, timber and timber, products, containers and much more. The length of the berths is almost 15 km. Quantity: 86. Novorossiysk port is one of the largest. Up to 20% of cargo turnover passing through Russian ports passes through it. Up to 800 railway wagons with cargo arrive at the port per day.
For example and understanding of, let's say, greatness, a screenshot of an ordinary day in the port is presented. The picture shows ships in the roadstead and in the port (multi-colored circles and rectangles).
"Cape of Love"
Almost in the center of the Admiral Serebryakov embankment there is a small cape with a monument to the dead sailors. This is “Cape of Love”. There are two stories behind the origin of this name.
The first is a romantic one, from the Romeo and Juliet series. A long time ago there was a market for live goods here. In other words, slaves. The boy and girl fell in love, but the owner wanted to sell them separately to different people. Unable to bear the future separation, they threw themselves from the cliffs into the sea.
The same fate befell another young couple, but it was about the unrequited love of a high school student. The girl did not reciprocate and, during a walk in the cliff area, the school student first shot her, then himself.
The second is prosaic. Previously, the cliff was a rather secluded place. The city has not yet reached here with its tentacles. Couples ran here, away from human eyes, to enjoy privacy and each other. Go, kiss, admire the scenery, check in on social networks and continue your walk around Novorossiysk and its attractions. By the way, there is an equipped beach nearby.

Street of the Novorossiysk Republic
It starts from Admiral Serebyakov embankment and ends with Oktyabrsky Lane. What is remarkable about this street? Firstly, it clearly shows the architecture of Novorossiysk. Secondly, from the intersection with Engels and to the embankment, in the center there is a beautiful boulevard with gorgeous views of the sea and mountains. There are several monuments on the boulevard: L.I. Brezhnev, the Novorossiysk Republic, Fighters for Soviet Power, M.P. Lazarev.
Going down from the center, you will go straight to the sea terminal and the cruiser "Mikhail Kutuzov".
Gyros Jan
I have included this establishment in the sights of Novorossiysk. They sell the best and most delicious gyros in the city. I highly recommend visiting. Now Gyros Jan has expanded and a second point has appeared on Vidova, 104 (24 hours a day). The first one is in Tsemdolin, on Gogol Street, 10. On a quiet street, on the first floor of a residential private house.
In addition to gyros (2 types), they offer shawarma (12 types), different variations of donar, and hot dogs. Everything is prepared in front of you. And yes, they bake the bread for all this deliciousness themselves. Portions are offered in different sizes. The big ones are really big. The prices are very reasonable.

Children's goods store
If your children need some clothes on vacation, I recommend a children's store in the center of Novorossiysk. Why him? I am well acquainted with the assortment and prices - “Children's Goods” has high-quality clothes and shoes from Turkey, Russia, China. Not market, but at low prices. Deliveries in small quantities - your child will be wearing almost exclusive clothes. Vacationers often buy a whole wardrobe for almost all 4 seasons - all because of the quality and prices. In Moscow, for example, such prices were unheard of.
It rightfully occupies a place in the “where to go in Novorossiysk” section. Families come from Gelendzhik, Raevka, Anapa and Crimea to dress their children!

Ruins of the Palace of Culture of Cement Workers
In the eastern region, on the Sukhumi highway, not so far from the “Rubezh Defense”, there is the skeleton of the Tsementnikov Palace of Culture. Riddled with bullets and shells, battered by time, it reminds us of the Novorossiysk defense line passing in this place. On one side were our troops, on the other the enemy.
As the name suggests, the recreation center was built for workers in the cement industry. Construction began in the 30s. The theater part of the building was built by the summer of 1941. The opening was scheduled for June 22. You understand that the house failed to fulfill its purpose.
After the end of the war, it was decided to make what was left of the building a monument. The recreation center is not guarded, but lovers of ruins should not go inside - a collapse is possible. In front of the Palace of Culture there is a T-34-85 and there is a mass grave for 338 Soviet soldiers with names listed on memorial plaques.

Park of Culture and Leisure named after. Lenin
The largest park in the city. It is located at 53 Sovetov Street, a few houses away from the Museum-Reserve (I wrote about it above). On the territory of the Gagarin Planetarium. The infrastructure is conducive to walks and entertainment: a drama theatre, a cinema, shooting ranges, a pond, a dance floor, a stage, many flower beds and paved paths. For sports - a ropes course, bike paths, and a skate track.

“Heroes Square” - eternal flame, here is post No. 1
Opposite the pier for boat trips. In fact, it was not always called. In the first half of the 19th century it was called “Torgovaya”. In the 20s it was renamed “Primorsky Boulevard”. The current name was given during the Great Patriotic War.
Since 1958, the Fire of Eternal Glory has been burning on the square. Since 1960, Shostakovich’s “Novorossiysk Chimes” has been played every hour. Today, “Heroes Square” is a memorial complex with monuments to the heroes of the Second World War, with green alleys, benches and flower beds.

Lutheran Catholic Church
It is a cultural monument and is protected by the state. The only one in the Krasnodar region. Address: st. Sofievskaya, 4. The approximate date of construction is 1908. On August 24, 1928, on the basis of a report to the regional executive committee about the inspection carried out and the discrepancy, so to speak, with the goals and objectives, the church was closed.
In 1929, the cross was removed from it, and the premises were transferred to “Proletary” as a club for cement plant workers. In 1997, the church was returned and restored by the parishioners. Currently, as expected, services and organ music concerts are held.

Open-air museum of military equipment. Memorial exhibition "Weapons and military equipment of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945"
In a fenced area near the Sudzhuk Spit beach on Lenin Avenue. In addition to WWII military equipment, weapons from the First World War are also presented in small quantities. Tickets previously cost a symbolic 40 rubles. I don't think they've gone up much in price now. There is no time limit for visiting.
The museum presents:
- Series of anchors for military and merchant ships
- 112 mm 60 caliber gun from the destroyer "Piercing". The destroyer was part of a squadron that was scuttled in 1918. It was brought ashore in 1965
- Heavy tank IS-3 model 1945
- Medium tank T-3485 model 1944
- Exhibition with different parts of guns, aircraft, ship propellers, etc.
- Deck gun mounts
- Exhibition of ship guns and harpoon installation

Singing fountain
Not every city in the world can boast of such a landmark. There are two of them in Novorossiysk and the surrounding area (the second is in Abrau). But ours, the city one, was built in the Rybnev Park. Surrounded by Sovetov, Tolstoy and Tsedrik streets. Login from any of them.
During the day it is an ordinary fountain, surrounded by sculptures and benches. The show runs from 21:00 to 23:00. The music, lights, lasers turn on and the water in the fountain begins to “live” to the rhythm of the melody. We recommend coming in advance, because later it will be difficult to find a place to clearly see the performance due to the large number of people who came. Don't think that people stand around all the time and don't take their eyes off the fountain. There are many people who want to dance.

How to get to Novorossiysk
By plane
The nearest airports are Anapa and Gelendzhik.
You can get to Novorossiysk from these cities by regular bus for about 100 rubles. By taxi it will be much more expensive: when going to the order desk - at least 1500-2000 rubles. Private cab drivers at the airport will quote the cost twice as high.
Many guest houses provide airport transfers. This is a way to get to your destination comfortably and save money.
By train
There is a railway station in Novorossiysk, but there is no connection with Tuapse and Sochi. The peculiarities of the mountainous terrain do not allow for a continuous railway on the coast.
For example, in Gelendzhik there are no railway tracks at all.
By bus
You can get to Novorossiysk by bus from any city on the Black Sea coast, as well as from Krasnodar.
A bus is the most inexpensive and convenient way to get from Novorossiysk to Anapa, Gelendzhik or Abrau-Durso.
By sea
Novorossiysk is one of the few cities on the coast where there is a passenger seaport.
However, the flight to Sochi in 2022 was canceled due to unprofitability.
By ferry from Novorossiysk you can get to Crimea, Georgia and Turkey.

Location on the map
Photo gallery
The location allows you to quickly get from Novorossiysk to neighboring cities, for example, Anapa, Gelendzhik or small villages. The city is rich in attractions, entertainment and has comfortable beaches, as you can see by looking at the photo of Novorossiysk.
Beaches
The most popular beach is the central one. It has a pebble surface, three diving bridges, a fenced area for children's swimming and an equipped bathing area for people with disabilities. There are quite a lot of changing rooms, so there is no need to stand in line. On the territory there are cafes, canopies under which you can rest from the hot sun, exercise equipment, toilets and a first-aid post. In summer, large trampoline slides are installed for children. They stand on the very shore, but when children roll off them, they end up not in the sea, but in a small pool. The beaches of Shirokaya Balka, Aleksino, and Barbarino are no less popular, but they are located at some distance. Those who like a secluded holiday will definitely like the wild beach at Cape Penai. You can get to know the beaches better and learn about their conditions from the photos of Novorossiysk, because few of them can do without a picturesque seascape! What to see Novorossiysk has many attractions that you can visit on your own or as part of an organized excursion. You can take a bird's eye view of the city or buy a few souvenirs in the main city park named after Lenin. There are children's attractions, carousels for the little ones, a 5D cinema and a planetarium. You can get to the park by almost any transport, and the desired stop is called “Lenin Park”. Buses, trolleybuses and minibuses stop right at the gate. History fans should pay attention to local museums. The museum-cruiser "Mikhail Kutuzov" will tell the history of the Black Sea Fleet, the art gallery "Prima-South" will demonstrate collections of graphics, painting, sculpture and other areas of art, and the Novorossiysk Museum-Reserve will introduce you to different periods of the life of the city itself. And, of course, while here, you definitely need to take a walk along the main embankment of the city and take your own photo of Novorossiysk. We also can’t help but mention the excursion to Abrau-Durso, which will be appreciated by fans of quality alcoholic drinks. Entertainment A special place in the city is given to active recreation, especially water sports. Most often, tourists are interested in training at a local diving school. Depending on the level of preparation, divers can choose one of ten excursion routes - go in search of the remains of ships, aircraft, or simply admire the beauty of the underwater world. Children and adults will be interested in the Do-Do wildlife park, located between Novorossiysk and Anapa. It occupies a huge area - about 10 hectares, and various species of animals and birds live here and rare plants are grown. Novorossiysk is also rich in restaurants, bars and nightlife spots where you can have fun with friends. Arriving in this Black Sea city, you can be sure that your vacation will be 100% successful.

Is it worth going to Novorossiysk
If you are looking for a holiday destination with lots of entertainment and active nightlife, then Novorossiysk is not the place for you. A holiday here is suitable for those who would like to combine the beach and cultural and educational events.
Holidays in Novorossiysk are not as expensive as in Gelendzhik, Lazarevskaya or Sochi. At the same time, the sea here is much cleaner than on most of the beaches of Gelendzhik. Thanks to its convenient location, you can travel from Novorossiysk to Kabardinka, Abrau-Durso or Gelendzhik.
Brief information
The city was founded in 1838. Today you can get to it in different ways. The city does not have its own airport, the nearest is in Anapa, and from there you can take a taxi or bus. There is a well-established railway connection with many regions and major cities (Moscow, St. Petersburg, etc.). The waterway is interesting; rockets constantly sail here from Sochi; the port receives many ships, cargo and passenger, all year round.
Conventionally divided into 6 districts:
- Center
- Abrau-Durso
- Eastern (industrial zone)
- Seaside
- Gaiduk
- Verkhnebakansky
It is better to choose the central areas for inspection , since the industrial zone is full of industrial enterprises and is unlikely to arouse interest from a recreational point of view. Today, about 189 thousand people live in Novorossiysk. The average temperature in summer is 27-30 degrees Celsius, the water heats up to 25. The climate is similar to the Mediterranean.
