The development in Shirokaya Balka is uneven: some of the houses stand almost right next to the water, and some of them climb the slopes of the hill. The highest mountain surrounding the Shirokaya Balka gorge is Sapun (438.4 m). Many streams flow into the river, and all of them together form a drainage with a total area of 20 square meters. km.
Climate, weather
The Abrau Peninsula, on which the Shirokaya Balka village is located, is characterized by a dry Mediterranean climate. Its areas are protected from the north by the low mountains of the western spurs of the Greater Caucasus Range. This allows cold winds to sometimes flow across the ridge and reduce the air temperature (down to −26 °C). Due to the specific relief, hurricane winds develop at a speed of 30-40 m/s.

The first steps towards a civilized holiday
Already in 1969, with the advent of the first climatic sanatoriums, Shirokaya Balka, where recreation and treatment were appreciated by the pioneers, began to be actively built up with resort and health-improving institutions. And in recent years, here, as elsewhere, intensive construction has been carried out - the embankment has been transformed, new resort infrastructure facilities have been updated or built. As a result of this, Novorossiysk itself, Shirokaya Balka and all the surrounding areas are gradually turning into places very worthy of visiting, in no way inferior to the Black Sea recreation areas of other countries.
The velvet season is especially valuable in these places, since even in October the water temperature here is above 19 degrees. Shirokaya Balka is always crowded, because here you can find recreation for every taste - both for lovers of cultural entertainment and for fans of silence and contemplative peace. How to get to the coast

There may not be tickets at the bus station ticket office for the village only during rush hour (Friday and Saturday evenings), when visiting tourists are joined by local residents who intend to spend their weekend outdoors in the village. But you can stop a minibus outside the bus station, then the fare is paid directly to the driver.

A little history
Traces of Greek settlements, which archaeologists find along the banks of the gorge itself, confirm historical information that these places from the end of the 6th century BC to the 4th century AD. e. were part of the Sindica state, and then, from 480 AD. e., - into the Bosporan kingdom. One of the first bases in the village of Shirokaya Balka, built back in Soviet times, is the Sadko recreation center. It is conveniently located in a forest area of centuries-old juniper, pine and oak trees, just 30 meters from the sea. It is easy to find, because when tourists enter the coastal zone of the sea from Novorossiysk, the base to the right of the road is the first on their way.
Over the time since it was put into operation, when the base had only houses with amenities on the street, it has been updated and expanded. Now this is a real recreation complex, occupying an area of 2 hectares, with modern cottages and rooms with all amenities, with its own beach and excellent organization of leisure activities for guests.

Start of construction
“Chaika” is the very first recreation center built directly on the local seashore. Wide beam then, in 1969, received its first vacationers - workers of the Novorossiysk Automobile Plant, who got here through the village of Myskhako.
