Yulia visited the most cozy village on the Azov coast - Kuchugury with her husband and son in July 2022. Below are the secrets of an economical holiday in Kuchugury, the pros and cons, what you can save on.
Reasons for choosing a resort:
- Inexpensive housing
- Availability of free space on the beach
- Close location to therapeutic mud
- Warm and shallow sea
If you have not yet decided where you want to go on vacation, look at the best options for a family vacation on the Azov Sea and at the same time on the Black Sea.
Accommodation
The Taman Peninsula will delight visitors with its mild climate and warm sea. The village of Kuchugury stretches along the coast and, having rented any accommodation, you will certainly be within walking distance from the warm sea with a sandy beach.
There are no large and modern hotels in Kuchugury, and the few available can be classified as guest houses. There are a large number of boarding houses in the village, as well as rooms for rent in every private house. This cozy and quiet village is chosen by residents of big cities, so I recommend booking rooms in the place you like in advance and deciding what services you are willing to pay for.
The infrastructure in the villages is undeveloped, so this place is not suitable for those who like to relax with foam parties, night discos and restaurants. But you simply cannot find a better holiday with children and for an elderly couple.
There are several accommodation options available for guests in Kuchugury.
Hotels
Pros:
- New buildings with renovation
- The room has a TV, air conditioning, bathroom
- Price includes meals
- Availability of a playground or swimming pool
- Walking distance to infrastructure: market, pharmacy, savings bank, shops, cafes
- Entertainment activities for children and adults
Minuses:
- High price per person
- Most are located close to the central market, where there is constant noise and commotion
- Lack of a separate courtyard for evening gatherings
Guest houses
Pros:
- Possibility to choose a location closer to the sea
- Rooms with and without amenities are offered, which makes it possible to save money
- Possibility to choose a separate house and live without owners
- Lower cost compared to hotels
- Possibility to eat on your own or pay full board
- Availability of a separate area for a picnic, barbecue or just relaxing in the yard
Minuses:
- Not always high-quality repairs
- Due to the large number of residents, there may be no hot water, since the available boiler volume is not selected correctly
Private sector
Pros:
- You can choose any location, the first line from 700 RUB/person, the second from 450 RUB/person.
- Most owners have a separate patio with barbecue and free parking for their car.
- There is a place for cooking
Minuses:
- Owners are not always honest and clean people
- By agreeing in advance, you take a risk, since the picture may be very different from reality.
The most inexpensive option is to stay with a private owner, but if you are going on vacation for the first time and are making an advance payment, you should understand that you are taking a risk.
We settled in the private sector in a small cottage - the Rakushka boarding house. On the territory there were several separate houses and three rooms with a common hall inside the house. We chose the economy option - a room for three without a bathroom. The toilet and shower were located in the hall and were designed for two rooms. Price per room per day 1,200 rub.
When choosing a location, we took into account two criteria:
- distance from the sea;
- price per person.
We were allowed to use the shared kitchen, automatic washing machine, and ironing board free of charge with our room. There was a TV and a huge soft sofa in the hall.

Weather conditions in Kuchugury
The Sea of Azov is shallow and its average depth is 7 meters, and the maximum is 15. The water heats up very quickly and remains warm until October. The village has more than 280 sunny days a year. Summer here is windless and warm. In Kuchugury, the swimming season opens earlier than in Anapa.
In winter there are no significant frosts, and the temperature does not drop below minus 2 degrees. Each season is characterized by certain advantages and features:
1. May-June. At this time the climate is not hot, but the sea is cool. The water heats up to 16-21 degrees. During the day the air temperature reaches 28 degrees. In June it becomes even warmer and the weather is sunny almost the entire month.
2. July-August. This holiday period is characterized by heat. The water temperature heats up to 26-28 degrees.
3. September-October. At this time, water temperatures drop to 21 degrees. By mid-October the value drops to 14 degrees, and swimming is no longer possible.
Nutrition
Kuchugury is simply a storehouse of fresh fruits and vegetables. At the central market every morning you can buy local ripe fruits:
- Peaches starting from 40 rub. / kg.
- Grapes - at the height of the season from 50 rubles / kg.
- Apples - 35 rub./kg.
- Figs - from 90 rub./kg.
For vacationers with children, fresh milk is offered for 70 rubles. 1.5 liter bottle, goat milk cheese for 350 RUR/kg, cottage cheese and sour cream.
Local producers offer a wide range of sausages, frankfurters and sausages made from turkey and chicken.
Average price:
- Boiled sausage - 220 rub./kg.
- Turkey ham - 350 rub./kg.
- Turkey roll - 380 RUR/kg.
- Children's chicken sausages - 190 RUR/kg.
Right at the entrance of the market there is a large store, the prices of products in which are on average 10–15% higher than in any region.
We bought fresh food every morning and cooked ourselves.
For those who like to visit cafes, Kuchugury has a rich selection of small and cozy establishments. Since most vacationers are with children, each cafe has a separate children's menu.
We visited the Puss in Boots cafe several times at st. Red/55.
The average price for an afternoon snack for three people is 525 rubles. The menu included:
- Pancakes with jam - 120 rub. serving of three pieces.
- Non-alcoholic mojito - 55 rub.
For barbecue lovers, we recommend visiting the small cafe “Shashlychnaya No. 1” at st. Red/36. The kebabs in this establishment are prepared only from fresh meat, and the secret of the marinade is inherited in the owner’s family. The taste of melting, aromatic meat is hard to forget. The average price for 150 g of lamb is 180 rubles.
For very little ones, you can buy baby food in the store. There are no problems with purchasing personal hygiene products in Kuchugury. Diapers, baby oil and wipes at a local pharmacy cost 10–15% higher than outside resort towns.
Popular places in Kuchugury
Resort guests will enjoy the local seasonal market. Here you can buy all kinds of seafood, vegetables and fruits. Many traders offer homemade dairy products.
There is also a House of Culture in the village, which has 12 sections for children. The music school of arts is also located in the same building. In recent years, an All-Russian camp has been organized, which brings together rural librarians from different localities. In 2009, the Alexander Nevsky Temple was erected in the village. A Sunday school for children was opened there.
Beach and water temperature
The beach is what families with small children flock here for. A wide strip of warm light sand with a scattering of shells. Children play here like in a big sandbox, build castles and decorate them with seaweed.
The beach is clean and has one large central entrance and several wild slopes along the entire length of the coast.
We went down to the sea along a narrow path and within 5 minutes after leaving the house we were on a shell scattering.
Near the main entrance there are many tents with various swimming and beach accessories. Every 300 meters along the coast there are stalls with cold kvass, mojito and lemonade. Average price:
- Kvass - 60 rub./l.
- Mojito - 80 rub./l.
- Lemonade - 80 rub./l.
They sell only certified drinks in sealed containers.
The water in the Sea of Azov is 5–10 degrees warmer than in the Black Sea. In July, the average water temperature is 25–28 degrees. But on our visit the water warmed up to 31 degrees.
There are no breakwaters on the beach of the Azov Sea, and due to the absence of mountains, the sea is always agitated. But the waves are scary only on the first day, then adults swing on them, and children dive and play catch. People with poor vestibular apparatus should be careful, as the sea can cause motion sickness.
The water is clean, but opaque due to sand and constant waves. The depth 10 m from the shore is only 1 m.
It is worth noting that Kuchugur beaches will not disappoint lovers of solitude. By moving 2-3 meters to the side, you can be left on the sand completely alone.
For lovers of active recreation, entertainment is offered:
- Banana ride - 500 rub.;
- Plate ride - 500 rub.
- Parasailing along the coast - 1,500 rubles;
- Hang glider with instructor - 5,000 rub.
For small children, there is an inflatable town with a trampoline and a large slide on the beach for 150 rubles/20 minutes. In the evening you can ride on the inflatable slide for free.
The Taman Peninsula is not only a place of relaxation, but also treatment. Near the village there is a natural mud volcano, which can be visited completely free of charge. The walk to it along the coast is about 5 km. For the lazy, there is a minibus from the central market; the price to the source and back is 300 rubles. per person. You can put the dirt in a five-liter bottle and bring it with you. You should smear yourself once a day before bathing for 10–15 minutes.
Entertainment for children
There are two parks in Kuchugury that will appeal to both children and adults. A popular place is Emelya Park. It features various attractions, and in the evenings you can attend exciting show programs. The territory is decorated with green spaces and beautiful lighting. Here you can ride a Ferris wheel, giant swings and mini racetracks. Entrance to the park is free, and the cost of entertainment is affordable.
Interesting attractions include the Madagascar rope park. It consists of a variety of obstacles on rope courses. They are placed at a height of 1-3 meters from the ground surface. You can choose a suitable route depending on the age of the child. The green route is suitable for small children, and the yellow route is for 10-14 years old. The safety of participants is ensured using a carabiner and a rope.
Interesting entertainment can also be found in the surrounding area. At a distance of 32 km from the village there is the village of Golubitskaya. Here you can visit a zoo, a water park, a dolphinarium and a crocodile farm. You can also visit the Golden Beach water park in Anapa. Bus excursions around the Taman Peninsula are also popular.
Leisure
In the village of Kuchugury itself there is one big attraction -. Entering the park, it seems that you have returned to the nineties. An old Ferris wheel, a train made of iron carriages, a carousel on chains. The price of one attraction is 150 rubles.
The following trips are offered as excursion tours:
- To the Ethnographic Museum "Ataman".
Under the open sky there is a real Cossack town with clay houses, sculptures, and wells. This place will appeal not only to adults, but also to children. On the territory there is a fairy-tale world with a real Baba Yaga and a goblin. Entrance ticket price for an adult is 400 rubles, for a child 150 rubles. Of the minuses: the territory is huge and it is difficult to get around it in a day with a small child, we recommend stocking up on snacks.
If you are going to Taman, read what interesting places there are in the city and its surroundings.
- Dolphinarium in Bolshoy Utrish.
This is the only dolphinarium in Russia on the open sea, located at the foot of a relict forest. Seals, Seals and Dolphins are kept in their natural environment, well-groomed and enjoy showing their tricks to little spectators.
Price : Adult ticket 800 rubles, children's ticket 300 rubles, increased comfort zone - 1 thousand rubles.
Bolshoy Utrish is located on the Black Sea, there are no industries or harbors nearby. The water here is clean and clear, the beach is large pebbles.
- Military Hill Museum.
The Museum of Military Equipment is located in the open air in the neighboring village of Temryuk. Here are real tanks, rocket launchers, guns, and planes that took part in the Second World War. You can touch the exhibits, some of them can be viewed from the inside.
