Brest Fortress
www.belarus.by
The first thing that comes to mind when mentioning Brest is the legendary Brest Fortress, which took the first blow on June 22, 1941, when the Great Patriotic War began... And if you enter the fortress through the main entrance (as the locals say , “through the Star”), then you will hear the metronome counting, and the alarming rumble of enemy aircraft, and that very voice of Levitan, reporting the attack of Nazi Germany...
The citadel is full of reminders of the war - these are ruins, and casemates made of red brick, and tanks with guns, and the graves of defenders, whose names can be read on the slabs, and the unquenchable Eternal Flame, burning day and night in memory of all those who died... But at the same time At the same time, the Brest Fortress amazes with a sense of peace, tranquility, and boundless space. Here roses bloom and the ringing of church bells can be heard, here restless boys climb on reclaimed tanks and guns from morning to evening, there is a lot of air, trees and silence. Here you can have a snack in a cafe and go to the museum, or just walk along the endless paths under the shade of old willows, remembering the war and rejoicing in peace... Read the review

Archaeological Museum "Berestye"
www.belarus.by
On the territory of the Brest Fortress there is another museum, which everyone who comes to Brest strives to visit. The idea of the museum arose when, during excavations in 1968, an ancient village was discovered, or rather, a settlement from the 11th-13th centuries: small wooden houses, stoves, beds, pavements paved with boards, the remains of fences, as well as a lot of ancient utensils. The finds are “preserved” by scientists so that everyone can be curious: how did people live many centuries ago?
Clay vessels and leather shoes that bear little resemblance to modern ones, a cart wheel and a millstone, an awl and a shoe knife, a ring and a comb - unique finds can tell so much about the past... Read the review

Railway Museum
What child would refuse a visit to the “museum of steam locomotives”? Especially if there you are allowed not only to look, but also to touch, and climb inside the cars, and sit in the driver’s booth, and look at the steam pressure gauge, and turn the steering wheel, and turn various valves, and look into each compartment...
Mail and passenger cars, and a tank locomotive, and a steam crane, and an ambulance car from the war, and a car with an anti-aircraft gun, and a handcar...

"Duner"
(Masherova, 52)
After “Cow” everyone meets at “Duner” - a seedy, shabby place where music videos or football are shown on TV. But if you ask, they can change the channel. This is the only eatery that is open until “really late” and feeds all the night partygoers. There is no special atmosphere there, just a tradition and an opportunity to continue the party. I usually only get duner here and always ask to replace the red sauce with white. I don’t know who this will help, but now my friends are repeating me.
“Duner” - bow: everyone there is always tortured at night, as if they were carrying a cross to feed the night owls.
Lantern Alley
Another attraction of Brest is the famous Alley of Lanterns, which appeared on Gogol Street in 2013. The Little Prince and his Rose, a fairy-tale stove and a shoe shiner with his brushes, a peddler and a sewing machine, and a luxurious carriage in which you can sit - the lanterns amaze with their variety, inventiveness, and skillful forging of every detail.
During the day, it’s a good idea to walk along the alley with a camera and capture the lanterns you like most as a souvenir. But be sure to look at the Alley of Lanterns and in the evening, when at dusk the waiter’s lamp is lit, the candle at Viy’s is lit, and the anvil in the forge of the god Hephaestus lights up with red lights, and silhouettes of Gogol’s characters appear in the window of the fairy-tale house, and the devil will try again steal the moon... "Passage Yard"
(Komsomolskaya st., 31/1)
This is an island of Kyiv in sunny Brest. A most soulful miniature place, which, despite its small area, accommodates parties, movies on a projector, yoga and drinking bouts. It’s very cozy here, and the owners will always keep up the conversation.

At Prohodnoy Dvor it’s ideal both in the morning - coffee + croissants, which are baked in front of you (classic with salmon and arugula or camemabre and raspberries), and in the evening - just swap coffee for wine.
Sovetskaya Street, Lantern Lighting Ritual
It is no coincidence that lanterns have become the hallmark of Brest. After all, every evening a truly fabulous event takes place here: a real lamplighter in a signature blue jacket, with a ladder on his shoulder, appears on a city street to the accompaniment of light music. And businesslikely, without being distracted by camera flashes and cries of tourists, he gets down to his usual work. With a light gait he moves from lantern to lantern, climbs the ladder and - “let there be light!”
On Sovetskaya Street there is a whole block with real gas lamps, which the lamplighter lights at dusk and extinguishes at dawn. And don’t forget, while admiring the lamplighter’s work, take a photo with him as a souvenir and hold on to a button of his uniform for good luck. Read review
City Park
In the warm season, an excellent place for relaxation and leisure is the May Day Park, a traditional recreation spot for Brest residents. Maslenitsa and City Day are celebrated here, knightly tournaments and concerts are held, and wedding photo sessions are held on the Lovers' Bridge.
In the park you can ride carousels, cars and other attractions, sit at a table in a cozy cafe, enjoying the view of the lake, eat ice cream or cotton candy, jump on a trampoline, meet a squirrel or a hedgehog, see rare trees: hornbeam, elm, plane tree, wander around quiet paths in the shade of trees, enjoy relaxation and silence.

Park of Warriors-Internationalists
www.kakprosto.ru
Another Brest park. It appeared as a tribute to the memory of the soldiers who died in Afghanistan, as is reminiscent of the real armored personnel carrier standing on a pedestal at the central entrance to the park. If you go deep into the park, you can go on rides and satisfy your hunger in small improvised cafe vans. But most of all, Brest residents love this park because it is very reminiscent of a forest: the pine forest and birch grove there are truly beautiful, especially in autumn. Walking along the paths, you will hear the sound of a woodpecker and see nuthatches carrying seeds from the feeder. And don’t forget to take a handful of nuts with you: in the Park of Internationalist Warriors there are practically tame squirrels who will boldly come up to you and take a treat from your palm.

Pancake shop near the “collective farm market”
(Karbysheva, 25)
This is the ugliest place in this collection, it’s just not good at all. But the time to promote it has come. The legendary pancake shop near the “collective farm market” is the one closest to the doors. I've been eating there since my first year and still do (and that's almost 15 years). This is hit content: the best pancakes, the world market leader - tasty, honest, inexpensive and fast.
A completely homeless looking pancake house, a typical eatery: men from the bookmaker's office standing for coffee, students, saleswomen from the stalls next door and half the city in line.
Here you need to take the “tradition”: crabs, mayonnaise, cucumbers, corn, ham, cheese - in a rich way on payday. It’s really tasty, and women over the years of dating can give you a promissory note.
If someone is poor, do not forget to remove cheese from the additives. Issue price: from 2.2 rubles. up to 4.5 rub.

Embankment of the Mukhavets River
gorod-brest.livejournal.com
Another traditional walking place for Brest residents is the embankment of the Mukhavets River. This green area in the city center attracts everyone: for mothers with strollers there are comfortable paths, for kids there is a sandbox and plenty of space to run around and play, for young people there are romantic corners under the shade of weeping willows, where you can be alone, admiring the fast flow and flowering trees. water lilies.
In the summer, the pleasure boat “Grodno” runs along the river, on which every resident of Brest has probably ridden at least once. The embankment is also a habitat for many birds, so when going for a walk, don’t forget to grab a loaf or bread: pigeons, swans, ducks and seagulls will thank you very much! Currently, reconstruction on the embankment is being completed: in the spring, comfortable benches, new lanterns and a beautiful fountain will await citizens and guests of the city.

Cafe "Tavern by the Lake", @traktiruozera
Address:
Park of Culture and Leisure named after May 1
The tavern “At the Lake” is a must-visit colorful establishment of Slavic cuisine. Located on the shore of the lake in the central park of Brest.
The establishment combines Belarusian, Polish and Jewish cultures. And the interior contains fragments of a traditional hut, an ancient tavern, and a noble castle with a fireplace in the center of the hall.
We would like to thank Valeria Stradina and Olga Demyanchuk for their assistance in creating the material.
Streets of Brest
It often happens that we live in a city for many years, but we don’t know about the existence of some “attractions”. The article Mysterious Brest: what the old courtyards hide will interest even old-timers - it will be a reason to take a walk with the children to unfamiliar places. Walking around Brest with a child: in search of a fairy tale, will become exciting and interesting if you think through the route in advance and don’t forget your camera.
"Venice"
(International, 5)
– The first establishment on my list is dear, even a little old. “Venice” has the best pizza, good cuisine, and prices are already equal. In addition, this is apparently the only place in the city where waitresses are sewn new uniforms for each subsequent season - winter and summer.
I've been going there for more than 10 years, some of the employees have been working there for the same amount of time. The establishment is owned by the Italian Bruno - he once set the tone for the decoration: tablecloths, a little deliberate elegance, walls painted with landscapes and streets. And, of course, divine pizza – it truly is the best in the country.

I would recommend getting the “Derevenskaya” pizza here - for those who are not afraid of salt, pickles and garlic. Salad “Riviera” with trout, shrimp and grapes is simple, understandable, satisfying and not boring. But I don’t recommend coffee at Venice – it’s always urine in a nice mug.
The establishment has a separate children's room and a good area if you decide to sit on the terrace. Plus, this is one of the few places in the city that is open until midnight.

Grill bar "Cow"
(Sovetskaya, 73)
The establishment of the owner of the Minsk Easy Soup chain, Brest resident Kirill Borokhov . Guests are usually taken to the “Cow” to “show off”: they say, look at what an unprecedentedly fashionable place we have, whoa.

The bar is designed in such a way that when you get up, you find yourself in a separate world. The elongated layout creates the feeling of a rich apartment with walk-through rooms.
Some of the unusual things are beer from their brewery near Brest for 13 litar, and in the summer - cider, good cuisine (but “more expensive”), work until 2 a.m. on weekdays and until 4 a.m. on weekends, free parties and experiments. Either they have IT meetings during lunch, or they draw with wine, or Shuma performs for free. If you hang out somewhere and “buzz”, then anyway you go to the “Cow”.
Here I would advise you to definitely try beer from the tap or a Moscow Mule cocktail on the Jaeger, expensive burgers and Caesar - very elegant and beautiful, and not a dump in a plate.
