A relatively small city on the Crimean peninsula, Bakhchisarai is especially popular among tourists. Thanks to the presence of a huge number of different attractions, entertainment centers, and simply beautiful places. Below I have briefly described the most interesting places and possible entertainment in order. So, where to go and what to see.

Cave city Mangup-Kale

This is the largest cave city in Crimea, which is an officially recognized historical and architectural monument. The Mangup-Kale fortress is located 25 km from Bakhchisarai itself, in close proximity to the village of Khoja Sala. This unique place is distinguished by an unusual architectural ensemble. Some parts of the defensive walls and the citadel are well preserved. But the cave complexes are in better condition. In the south of the plateau there is the Annunciation Monastery. How to get there

It seems inappropriate to talk about how to get there by car. Because the distance between Bakhchisarai and Sevastopol and Yalta is about 40-45 km. In the latter case, however, owners of non-Jeeps will have to work hard. Since the shortest road runs through the Ai-Petri plateau and its quality at times leaves much to be desired.

Public transport, however, is much less convenient. From Yalta, for example, you will have to get through Sevastopol. And spend about 2.5 hours and more than 300 rubles on the road... per person! Coming from the hero city is much easier: about an hour on the road, you need to pay ~160 RUB for a ticket.

Annunciation Cave Monastery

Not far from the ancient cave city of Mangup-Kale there is an equally unique religious site - the active Annunciation Monastery. The shrine was founded in the 14th – 15th centuries. At one time it was in disrepair. Today the temple complex consists of a church, a bell tower, and utility rooms. The monks' cells are equipped with everything necessary for living. Some ancient frescoes have been preserved on the walls. Two tombs are carved into the floor of the temple. A unique object, popular among pilgrims and ordinary tourists.

Martian lake

This is one of the most beautiful places not only in the vicinity of Bakhchisarai, but throughout Crimea. The lake with an unusual name has an equally unusual appearance. The color of the water is especially striking at first sight. Once upon a time there was a quarry here, but underground springs “kicked out the man” and formed a reservoir of amazing beauty. Suatkan Waterfall

Address : village of Bogatoye Gorge (next to the bed of the Suatkan River)

Suatkan is translated from the Tatar language as “throwing out water.” And indeed, Suatkan is a rather powerful and full-flowing waterfall, its height is 13 meters.

The best time to go to see the waterfall is in the spring, as it dries up in the summer. Getting to Suatkan is quite difficult; you have to walk a lot. So it’s better not to take children on such a trip.

Suatkan is surrounded on all sides by virgin yew groves. Many unique flowers, rare herbs and other plants grow here.

Khan's Palace

This extraordinary landmark of Crimea is located in Bakhchisarai itself, on Rechnaya Street, 133. The unique architectural ensemble, an inimitable example of landscape gardening art, do not leave any visitor indifferent. The palace complex was built in the 16th century and was in the possession of the Girey dynasty for a long time. The huge open-air museum consists of several parts: the Northern Gate, the palace square, the Khan's mosque, the bath complex, and the beautiful Fountain of Tears. As well as the harem building and the front gate. The complex became a museum of the history and culture of the Crimean Tatar people in the early 20s of the last century. Museum of Ismail Gasprinsky

Previously, there was a printing house on the site of the museum. In 1921, the house-museum of the famous educator Ismail Bey Gasprinsky was opened here. In the Soviet Union, the museum's activities were suspended, and many exhibits were lost.

The modern museum was restored and opened in 2001. Now there are many photographs, books, documents and awards of the figure.

Khan's Palace

The palace is considered one of the most popular places to visit not only in Bakhchisarai, but throughout the entire peninsula. Many centuries ago it was built by the best architects of the Ottoman Empire and Persia. This is where the rulers of that time were located.

Fountain of Tears

The history of this attraction began in the distant 18th century. According to legend, before the move, the fountain was located at the entrance to the tomb of Khan Kyrym-Girey’s beloved. The man was so saddened by her early death that he asked the master to create a stone that could carry his grief through the centuries. This is how the Fountain of Tears appeared.

The Fountain is located on the territory of the Khan's Palace. And many tourists often visit the museum precisely in order to see with their own eyes the landmark glorified in legends.

Miniature Park

Another name for this park is Crimea in miniature. This is one of the modern attractions - it opened in 2013. It is not shrouded in long-standing legends; there are no ancient temples or palaces here. However, every year more and more tourists come here. What is the reason?

The park territory covers an area of 2.5 hectares. And its main feature is a unique opportunity to visit almost all the cities and sights of the Crimean peninsula in just a few hours.

Chufut-Kale

The ancient cave city, rising above sea level, was built back in the 5th-6th centuries. Its name translates as “Jewish Fortress”; it appeared much later - in the 17th century. This is due to the population of the city by Karaites, whose ancestors were Jews.

Chufut-Kale was literally carved in stone. There was a mint, a school, warehouses and barracks here. That is why many tourists come here. You can even get to the city on foot.

Khan's Cemetery

On the vast territory of the Khan's Palace, next to the Great Mosque, there is another historically important place - the Khan's Cemetery. 9 most important rulers of Crimea are buried here. For Muslims this place is special. Since ancient times, they came here not to mourn the deceased, but to pray for the repose of his soul and ask for healing.

Nowadays, a large number of marble tombstones have been preserved on the territory of the cemetery. There are also two durbes - mausoleums with a dome, which indicate the status and greatness of the one to whom they belong.

Zincirli madrasah school

Zyndzhirly madrasah is the only Muslim religious school that survived on the territory of Bakhchisarai during the repressions of the Soviet Union. It was built by Khan Mengli-Girey back in the 16th century, but has survived to this day in excellent condition.

The name of the school literally translates as “madrasah with a chain.” This is due to the fact that, by order of the khan, an iron chain was hung at the entrance to the building. Everyone entering the building was forced to bow their head, expressing respect for the Zynjirdy Madrasah with a bow.

Holy Dormition Monastery

The monastery, which is still active today, was presumably built on a steep cliff in the 8th century. Of particular interest and reverent delight is the oldest and most beautiful building of the monastery complex - the Assumption Church, as if hanging over a cliff, it has a regular rectangular shape. And at first sight it fascinates. You can reach the temple via a high staircase of sufficient width. Opposite the church are the monks' cells and utility rooms. And at the very base of the stairs is the Gethsemane Chapel, built in 1867. Nearby is one of the surviving fountains. Takhtali-Jami Mosque

One of the most noticeable, in the literal sense of the word, attractions of Bakhchisarai. The mosque is operational. Built back in 1707 by the heiress of Khan Haji-Selim Giray. It is made of wood, but lined with stones, this is one of the main features. Simple forms and strict outlines attract attention no less than elaborate buildings. By the way, it was not for nothing that I called the mosque “noticeable.” It can really be seen from almost anywhere in Bakhchisarai. Some tourists do not see anything interesting for themselves in this place, but, in my opinion, without the Takhtali-Jami Mosque the city would lose its oriental flavor. More details

Sphinxes of Churuk-Su

The small river Churuk-Sun flows through Bakhchisarai, and it is in its valley that a unique natural monument is located - stone sphinxes. Limestone formations in the form of stone pillars of bizarre shapes truly resemble figures created by human hands. This amazing place is very popular among tourists. Kuibyshevo-Vysokoe Highway

Do you like to find locations from your favorite films in real life? Then you will definitely like the idea of visiting the highway between the villages of Vysokoye and Kuibyshevo.

It was here that one of the episodes of the Soviet film Prisoner of the Caucasus was filmed. Remember the moment when Shurik met Edik, whose car was constantly stalling? And how did he first meet Nina? This is where these scenes were filmed.

Next to the highway is Mount Utyug, which has the same shape. If you climb the mountain, you can get to a natural observation deck, from where you can see Kuibyshevo and its surroundings.

Chufut-Kale

Many tourists come to Bakhchisarai to see the remains of the once impregnable Chufut-Kale fortress, located 2.5 km from the city. Before the founding of Bakhchisarai, the Crimean khans lived there. Subsequently, they moved to Bakhchisarai, and only the Karaites remained in the cave complex. Today, this cave fortress city amazes with its grandeur, even despite its desolation. The structures of the Funa fortress (second name) are perfectly preserved and are of great interest not only to tourists, but also to archaeologists. Ancient Karaite cemetery

Karaites were once a significant religious stratum of the Crimean population. This particular Karaite cemetery existed between the 6th and 13th centuries. Its total area is approximately 10 hectares; there are more than 10 thousand graves on this territory.

On the graves of the Karaite cemetery, many interesting and beautiful tombstones have been preserved, the appearance of which directly reminds of their ancient age. The cemetery itself looks more like some kind of abandoned park, in which tourists have not walked for a long time. There is a very peaceful, quiet and calm atmosphere there.

Cave monastery "Kachi-Kalyon"

Unfortunately, not a single building has survived on the territory of the settlement, founded around the 4th century. But there is a healing spring, unique views and the most positive energy. Each of the grottoes of the complex is of particular interest. For example, in the first two there were premises for processing grapes and making wine. In the third grotto there was a temple-funeral complex, in which only some remains of three churches have survived today. On the way from 3 to 4 grottoes, the largest, a lot of small caves are discovered. Apparently these were monastic cells. It is impossible to get to the fifth cave without special equipment. Donkey farm "Miracle Donkey"

“Miracle Donkey” is the only farm in Russia where Somali and Nubian donkeys are bred. At the farm, each visitor can book a donkey tour, which includes:

walk around the farm and meet the donkeys;
a walk along one of the mountain routes (to the cave city of Eski-Kermen, to the foot of Mount Mangup or to the valley of the sphinxes of the Karaleska Valley);
tasting of donkey milk (whether it will happen or not depends on the season);
relaxation in the cherry orchard;
visit to the petting zoo (geese, pheasants, peacocks, goats, ornamental chickens, Cameroonian oxen, Vietnamese pigs, horses and, of course, donkeys live here).

There is a cafe on site (every day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.) where you can have a tasty and satisfying meal. The cafe sells first, second, various salads, meat dishes, desserts and much more. The average bill per person is 600 rubles.

Children will definitely be delighted with the Miracle Donkey farm, because here they can spend the whole day with the animals and make friends with them. All animals are already accustomed to human attention, so they know how to get along with even the smallest visitors.

There is a large children's playground on the farm grounds. Therefore, children will have something to do and somewhere to run while adults eat or go about their business.

Miniature Park

This is no longer a historically significant place or an architectural monument, but a new complex that deserves no less attention than all of the above objects. In Alushta there is also a park “Crimea in Miniature”, but Bakhchisarai is considered the largest on the peninsula. Only here you can see all the historical monuments, architecture of Crimea and attractions. True, on a scale of 1:25, but still. Here you will find the most interesting places in Yalta, the same “Swallow’s Nest”, Simeiz, Sevastopol. Eski-Kermen – cave city

An ancient settlement on rock formations, it supposedly appeared in the third century and existed until the 8th century. Today it is one of the most popular tourist sites in Crimea. It is famous not only for its incredible views from the plateau. Most tourists come to Eski-Kermen to see the unique cave shrines, for example, the Assumption of Mary. There is also an impressively sized siege well, with a stone staircase and a small reservoir at the bottom. During your visit you must follow the rules. It is not advisable to walk alone; it is easy to get lost in the numerous caves.

Naturally, there are other equally interesting and significant places in Bakhchisarai. But not all tourists come to the resort just to enjoy the sights. And in general, it’s better to combine useful things with pleasant things, so let’s look further at where you can have fun.

Ashlama-Dere Valley

The Biyuk-Ashlama-Dere valley lies at the foot of the cave city of Chufut-Kale. On its two sides there are mountains - the Burunchak plateau and Mount Besh-Kosh. The Churuk-Su River originates here. Archaeologists believe that the first traces of humans appeared here more than a million years ago. Since then, Scythians, Goths, Byzantines lived here, and eventually it was settled by the Crimean Tatars.

Previously, the residence of the Crimean khans was located here. Now through the valley you can get to the famous cave cities surrounding the villages, or just come here to enjoy the beauty of ancient nature.

Skete of St. Anastasia

The history of the cave monastery of St. Anastasia began in the distant 8th century. It was erected by the Byzantines, who fled from the iconoclasts. A thousand years later, during the Russian-Turkish war, the monastery was empty. It was reopened in the 19th century, but was soon closed again due to Soviet repression. Modern work began only in 2005, thanks to the brethren of the Holy Dormition Monastery.

The temple has a unique interior. Due to the dampness, its walls cannot be painted, so the icons and walls are made of beads. And believers come here to heal illnesses and regain lost knowledge.

Martian lake

In the village of Skalistoe, between Bakhchisarai and Simferopol, you can find an amazing lake. Initially it was called Marble, but tourists and local residents preferred a different name - Martian. The main feature of the reservoir is its crystal clear turquoise water.

Tourists often come here for completely different purposes. A holiday with the family, a photo shoot, a romantic trip - everyone will find entertainment for themselves here. On the shores of Lake Martian you can often meet artists who are inspired to create landscapes.

Rock Tash-Air

Tash-Air is a gorge, the entrance to which is crowned by a large fragment of a steep rock. Its name literally means "stone separated." This place is very popular because of the unique historical monument - rock paintings, presumably dating back to the 4th-3rd millennium BC.

In addition to the drawings, archaeologists also found a site of ancient people in the gorge. Historians who want to touch the ancient times, and vacationers who seek unity with nature come here.

Eski-Kermen

The settlement on the mountain plateau appeared in the 6th century - a Byzantine fortress was built here. Now there is an open-air museum there. It will take more than two hours to see the entire territory and significant places. Therefore, when coming on an excursion, you should choose comfortable shoes and stock up on water.

Mangup-Kale

Another amazing cave city in Crimea. According to archaeologists, the first settlements appeared here in the 3rd millennium BC. Later, the Byzantines built a fortress here to protect against raids.

The open-air museum is often visited by those interested in history. This is not surprising - the remains of an ancient civilization are located on the territory of the city. You can get to Mangup-Kale on foot, enjoying the beauty of the Crimean nature, or by SUV.

Shuldan and Chelter monasteries

Cave monasteries are not uncommon in Crimea. But their unusual architecture attracts many tourists and pilgrims from all over the country. Shuldan translated from Turkic means “impregnable fortress”. The temple was founded back in the 8th century, but remains active to this day - services are still held there, and monks still live there.

The name of the second monastery is no less interesting. Chelter means “lattice” in Turkic. Most likely, the temple was named so because of the rock on which it is located. It is riddled length and breadth with caves. The monastery was built more than 500 years ago, but just like Shuldan it still remains active.

Kachi-Kalyon

It is believed that the ancient cave city of Kani-Kalyon was founded in the 6th century. Its existence began with the appearance of a cave temple, which was cut right into the wall. However, many archaeologists are inclined to believe that before the settlement of this territory by the Scythians, Tatars and others, primitive people lived here. Therefore, it is possible that the city was formed much earlier.

Tourists have a lot to see - on the territory of Kachi-Kalyon there is a temple of the Holy Great Martyr Anastasia, grottoes, a holy spring, and many other interesting places.

Maiden (Mangup) Lake

Between Simferopol and Sevastopol, not far from the Mangup-Kale plateau, there is a lake. In the last century, archaeological excavations were carried out on its territory, during which a deep pit was created. Cave city of Bakla

Bakla is the very first cave city in Bakhchisarai, built by the Byzantines. Its history began many centuries ago - archaeologists found here hunting tools created back in Paleolithic times. The city is located in the very north, which made it unprotected from attacks.

Now anyone can enter the territory of the cave city - entrance to the museum is absolutely free. People interested in history come here to look at ancient monuments.

Shuiren Fortress

An ancient Byzantine fortress occupies almost 2 hectares of territory. It appeared in the 6th century and was destroyed several times due to frequent raids, but has still survived to this day. The Suiren fortress protected the road to the ancient city of Mangup-Kale.

Today anyone can look at it - entry to the territory is absolutely free. You can also book a tour to learn the history of the fortress and the most important events that took place there.

Mount Crocodile

Shaitan-Koba Cave

Despite its small size, the Shaitan-Koba cave is considered a real find for historians and archaeologists. During excavations, more than 25 thousand valuable artifacts, drawings, and even bones of ancient animals were discovered here.

The literal name of the grotto is the devil's cave. However, there are no exact explanations for such a terrifying name. The depth of the grotto is only four meters, the height is two. But historians believe that there used to be a small settlement of Neanderthals here.

Museum complex Devlet-Saray
