Voronezh is not the first thing that comes to mind when we think about where to spend our holidays. Nevertheless, its surroundings represent a rather unique area for central Russia. Here, many cave temples are concentrated in a compact area, the surface of the earth is cut by winding canyons and snow-white chalk quarries, and in the south of the region there is even its own desert. The region is not deprived of objects of historical and cultural heritage.
In the Voronezh region, you can spend an active weekend or go here for a whole week to immerse yourself in exploring the local beauties, either with a tent or staying in one of the hotels in the capital of the region.
Much of the local attractions are outdoors, making it an ideal family outing. After all, among forests, fields and caves, children are never bored, and besides, you can touch everything with your own hands. And parents don’t need to worry that a noisy family will disturb those around them - there is enough space for everyone.
Aseev Estate
In Tambov on the street. Embankment, 22 there is a unique museum complex “Aseev Estate”. The first owner of the estate was industrialist Mikhail Aseev. At the beginning of the 20th century, he bought a plot of land on the banks of the Tsna River with an ancient park. By 1905, Aseev built a palace here according to the design of the Moscow architect, master of Art Nouveau Lev Kekushev. The architectural style of the estate has features of classicism, baroque, and modernism. During the Soviet years, the estate had a variety of institutions. By 2014, the estate was restored. The interiors inside the building are partly authentic, partly recreated. The estate museum can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00; on Thursdays the museum has a “long” day and is open from 13.00 to 21:00.

Perhaps the option of a photo shoot against the backdrop of the region’s business card will seem too “wedding” and trivial to you... however, guests of the capital of the Black Earth Region who have visited this place for the first time are usually satisfied. Therefore, if your photos are intended not only for the Voronezh audience, expect questions from your subscribers about where you spend your vacation. In the end, if you want something less popular and recognizable, walk a couple of minutes to the old sugar factory, impressive in its scale and frightening in its abandonment. Don Sahara
With. New Liman
Opening hours: 24 hours a day
Not everyone knows that the Voronezh region has its own Sahara and it is located not just anywhere, but in the Petropavlovsk region. Once upon a time, the desert formation occupied a very small area. However, when people began to uncontrollably cut down forests and graze livestock in the spaces freed from trees, the desert began to grow rapidly and by the end of the 19th century it became a real problem for residents of the area. In the mid-twentieth century, on the orders of Stalin, the perimeter of the desert was lined with young pine trees. The landscaping gave its results and the desert stopped growing in size. Today this place is quite popular among photographers and travelers. Yes, the path there is not close, but the photographs against the backdrop of a truly African landscape turn out to be impressive. How to get there: Petropavlovsk district, Voronezh region, 15 km from the village of Novy Liman, 5 km from the village of Dedovka. Coordinates: 49°56′37″ N. w. 40°55′10″ E. d.

This estate with an amazing history near Voronezh has long been popular among newlyweds. However, in order to travel back in time 100-200 years ago, at least in a photo, it is not at all necessary to have a wedding. A beautiful restored manor and a landscaped park with a rotunda gazebo on the shore are an excellent place for summer photo sessions.

Prokhorovka
Are you sad that you won’t be able to take photos with balloons from Cappadocia in Turkey this year? Or don’t know where you can go to a beautiful place in the Voronezh region? Then go to the village of Prokhorovka, which is located near Belgorod. On the days from September 4 to 7, the Belogorya Sky Festival will be held here. There will be demonstrations of airplanes, helicopters, paramotors, and the simultaneous takeoff of hot air balloons. Plus Prokhorovka itself is an iconic place. Here is the Prokhorovskoye Field museum-reserve, which was founded in honor of the tank battle on July 12, 1943. We wrote more about the museum here. Coordinates 51.019760, 36.675824.
BY THE GOLDEN RING
And from Voronezh you can get to the ancient Russian cities of Vladimir (13 hours for 1,381 rubles in a reserved seat and from 3,342 for a seat in a compartment) and Yaroslavl (about 16 hours on the way, tickets cost from 970 rubles). But we would advise combining these trips into a small tour through several links of the Golden Ring. For example, from Vladimir through Bogolyubovo you can go to the fabulous Suzdal (by the way, the most “expensive” city on the route), from there to Pereslavl-Zalessky, rich in museums, then to the legendary Rostov, from which you can already get to Yaroslavl through the curious town of Gavrilov-Yam.
If you wish, you can make this journey in reverse order, or expand the route to the final point in Vologda, famous for its lace and wooden architecture. The trip from Vologda to your home station Pridacha takes a little less than 20 hours, and the cost of travel in a reserved seat carriage will be only 1,107 rubles (a ticket in a compartment will cost about 2,729 rubles if you take care of the trip in advance).

Uthark Castle
This medieval castle in Belgorod is a remake; it was started to be built by a local resident and his family in the 2000s near the beach in Sosnovka. But despite its young age, the castle looks impressive. Here you can take a walk, have a photo shoot and celebrate some kind of celebration. The castle is located at st. Peschanaya, 33. TO EUROPE
Few people know that from Voronezh you can take a direct train directly to the European Union, and all thanks to the route that takes residents of Kaliningrad to the Black Sea coast and back. So, if we have Schengen, we can easily buy a ticket to Vilnius (1 day and 2 hours on the road). And then, having had enough of a stroll through the ancient streets of the capital of Lithuania, go further: for example, to Riga (this is less than 300 km along the highway), and from Riga to Tallinn, returning to Voronezh from St. Petersburg. You can go from Vilnius to Kaliningrad, from where you can return home on the same Adler train.
It is curious that the journey from Voronezh to Kaliningrad in a reserved seat carriage costs from 1,200 rubles, and a ticket to Vilnius costs 5,000 rubles for a seat in the same carriage, while Vilnius is an intermediate stop. This pricing policy is explained by subsidies for the region cut off from the main part of the country. Therefore, some travelers, provided they have a Schengen visa, buy tickets to Nesterovo (the first station in the Kaliningrad region) and get off in Vilnius.

Ozolin, where, after being ill for seven days, Tolstoy died on November 7, 1910. Later in 1918, the Astapovo station was renamed Lev Tolstoy. Memorial Museum in Memory of L.N. Tolstoy "Astapovo" is open from Tue to Sun from 10.00 to 17.00. Ticket 60 rub. Museum address: Lev Tolstoy village, st. Privokzalnaya, 12.

- In the vicinity of Ramon (Novozhivotinnoye village), the Venevitinov estate, built in the 18th century, . The estate has survived to this day in excellent architectural condition - now there is a museum of noble life - a branch of the Voronezh Literary Museum.
