Where to go with a child in Barnaul
Barnaul Zoo is one of the favorite places in the city for all children. It was founded on the site of a small zoo where rabbits and chickens lived. The zoo was replenished with wounded and abandoned animals, and over time, quite exotic for these places. Today it is equipped with full-fledged enclosures, where you can see camels, foxes, ponies, corsacs and many other animals.
Children will be interested in visiting the rope park operating on the Zmeinogorsky tract. Not far from it there is a ski complex where you can go skiing and snowboarding.
All shopping and entertainment centers in the city have children's playrooms with various attractions and machines, where children and their friends can also have fun.

Baby panthers were shown on a walk at the Barnaul Zoo
The little ones are just beginning to explore the world around them, but they have already touched the hearts of social media users with their defenseless appearance.
Let us remind you that the Barnaul Zoo opened on June 8. This spring there was a real baby boom here: many animals had babies, so there is plenty to see and be moved by.
Also, since the beginning of June, the Ostrich Ranch has reopened, where, as Vesti Altai reports, more than 500 different birds and animals live, including ostriches, pheasants, peacocks, chickens, goats, donkeys, llamas and many others.
Where to go in Barnaul for the weekend
On a day off in Barnaul, you can go with the whole family to the Waterpark water park. There are not only exciting water attractions, but also Spa and Relax zones, and a cafe with a menu for children and adults.
The city also has several amusement parks, skating rinks, go-karts, paintball clubs, and ATV and Segway rentals, which will allow you to have an exciting time on the weekend. Here you can visit the planetarium and cinema, attend an exhibition or theatrical performance, concert and other cultural events that are regularly held for residents and guests of the city.
How to get there
The fast commuter train “Vostok” departs from Biysk in the morning (at 7.23). You can immediately buy tickets for it and back – departure from Barnaul at 17.45. The arrival of the train in Barnaul is at 10.16 – until a quarter to six you will have time to explore the city, visit entertainment centers, have lunch, and much more. The cost of tickets for a first class carriage is 387.90 rubles, second class – 297.80 rubles. The first class differs from the second only in the presence of a TV and air conditioning.
A child will definitely enjoy traveling by train - the seats are comfortable, the train travels quickly, they serve treats in the carriage, there are all the amenities, there is no comparison with the bus. Although buses also go to Barnaul - the schedule can be found at the Biysk bus station. The fare depends on the type of bus you will be taken on, but it is more than 300 rubles.

Where to go with a girl in Barnaul
In Barnaul there are many places to relax where you can go with your girlfriend. In summer, you can simply stroll along the picturesque streets of the city, admiring the beautiful views. In September-November, when the weather is not pleasant, you can go to one of the many restaurants, cafes and sushi bars, where you can enjoy dishes from different cuisines of the world, a pleasant atmosphere and music. Here you will find a huge variety of bars and nightclubs, establishments with billiards and bowling.
If a girl is a fan of active recreation, invite her to an ice skating rink or ski resort during the New Year and winter period. In the warm season, you can go on a walk through the picturesque surroundings of the city.
For lovers of urban romance
I recommend starting your acquaintance with Barnaul with October Square. Most urban transport routes pass through it, so getting there will not be difficult. A green pedestrian alley begins from the square, which runs through the entire city center and ends almost at the Ob itself.
Pedestrian alley along Lenin Avenue.
Just walk along it, looking around. On the way you will meet:
- well-kept Stalin-era houses;
- buildings from the mid-19th century;
- chapels;
- squares with fountains;
- cozy squares;
- Soviet monuments and modern sculptural groups.
On old buildings you can see amazing examples of Soviet mosaics.
Since the alley stretches along the main city avenue (which, of course, is called Lenin Avenue), there are plenty of coffee shops, cafes and restaurants along it. You won't get hungry while walking.
When the pedestrian zone ends, at the monument to Kira Baev, turn right from it and walk along the street another block. You will find yourself in a place that the city leadership solemnly calls a tourist cluster.
A place for tourists in Barnaul.
This is a section of one of the oldest streets in Barnaul - Malo-Tobolskaya. On weekends, various events often take place here:
- open-air photo and art exhibitions;
- handmade fairs;
- concerts;
- social dancing;
- just small holidays.
This is a surprise street - you never know what you will see when you turn onto it. Only the small shops and cafes surrounding this place remain unchanged. And the main object of this section of the city is the Old Bazaar market. In its building, by the way, you can not only buy fresh honey, Altai souvenirs and mountain herbs, but also admire the works of local artists and photographers. On the second floor of the building there is an exhibition hall where the exhibition changes periodically.
After the renovation, this place can hardly be called a bazaar. Rather, it is a shopping center decorated in market style.
Walk through Malo-Tobolskaya, to the tram ring and the park fence. Turn left and you will see stairs nearby. It leads to Nagrony Park, the highest point of Barnaul. Now there is an observation deck, on one side of which you can see a panorama of the city, and on the other, a view of the Ob River. Don't be lazy to get up! Viewing the city from above will be a bright end to your walk.
Stairs to Nagorny Park. It looks best in the evening, when the lanterns are lit on the terraces of the slope. But during the day it’s quite good.
Museums of Barnaul
There are many museums in Barnaul that will be interesting to visit for both adults and children. One of the largest in the city is the Altai State Museum of Local Lore, which presents interesting exhibitions and displays telling about the nature of these places, the development of Soviet industry, merchant life and many other interesting episodes. The city also has an Art Museum, the Museum of the History of Literature, the World of Time, the World of Stone, the Museum of Local History and many others. Everyone coming to this city will be able to find an interesting establishment and learn a lot about the history of Barnaul and the entire region.
For those interested in history
Barnaul is very friendly to tourists interested in history. He willingly tells everyone about his past. Get to the “House of Unions” stop on Lenin Ave., and walk from this highway to Krasnoarmeysky Ave. along the streets that cross it.
The closer you are to the river, the more often you will see explanatory signs on the sidewalks and buildings telling about the history of the places your route passes by.
Tourist sign on Lenin Avenue.
But if you want to get to know the place where the city began, you will have to make some effort. The reason for the formation of Barnaul was the silver smelting plant of the Demidov brothers. Its buildings successfully survived the revolution, and under the Soviets they were converted into a match factory. During perestroika, the factory ceased to exist. But the historical buildings still exist, although not in their best condition.
Entrance to the plant is not available for tourists. But every week it hosts volunteer cleanup days, the organizers of which willingly receive guests and take them around the territory. On Saturday around 9-30 am, go to the entrance of the former factory. Soon people will begin to gather around her. Ask the guys to give you a tour - they won’t refuse.
To get to the checkpoint, look on the street. Polzunov Museum “World of Stone”, turn behind it and walk along the road to the end.
Where should museum lovers go? I recommend the private museum “World of Time” on the street. Matrosova. Its owner is not limited to any one era; he collects all the antiques he can get his hands on. And he talks very enthusiastically about his collection, allowing guests not only to look at it, but also to touch it and put its exhibits into action. The museum has two locations, the second is dedicated to the symbols of communism. If you want to admire red crimson slogans, bugles and banners, and see the largest collection of sculptures depicting Lenin, this is the place for you.
Another interesting museum is the “Mountain Pharmacy” on the street. Polzunov. It is completely dedicated to the pharmacy business and its development in Altai. At the museum there is a shop of healing balms and dietary supplements, as well as a good restaurant. I won’t describe other museums; they are standard for all small towns - local history, art - and they are easy to find using 2GIS.
During the time of the Demidov brothers, this building actually housed the city pharmacy.
In 2022, Barnaul will turn 290 years old. Compared to capitals, this is still a very young city. But you can spend a good and useful weekend there. Come, I'm sure you'll like it.

Sights of Barnaul
Barnaul has a large number of attractions that are worth visiting while staying here. One of the most interesting objects is St. Nicholas Church - the oldest Orthodox church in the city. The Intercession Cathedral is also popular among tourists. It is recommended to go to the river station, from where river transport takes place around the city and beyond, and get to know the many sights during your walk.
The largest natural attractions include the Barnaul ribbon forest, which stretches for 400 km. It is famous for its rich flora and fauna; many wild animals live on its territory: wild boars, moose, wolves, hoopoes and others.
You can get acquainted with the main attractions of Barnaul, the streets and environs of the city in the video:
Parks and squares of Barnaul
The city has several large parks where residents and visitors can relax in nature and have fun. These include the Emerald Park, most of which is planted with valuable trees. It has attractions for children and adults, and there are places for active recreation lovers. You can also visit the amusement parks “Solar Wind” and “Europark”.
The largest squares of Barnaul, well known to all local residents, are the Square of Soviets, October, Sakharov, Pobeda and a number of others. There you will find various monuments dedicated to famous personalities or significant events, as well as old buildings that are architectural heritage.
You can also go shopping
Parents of teenage children also take their children to Barnaul - not to the zoo, of course. As a rule, the more developed retail network of the capital of the region allows young people to be inexpensively and variedly dressed - in Barnaul you can buy clothes from famous mass market brands, which, alas, will definitely never be in Biysk - Zara, Pull & Bear, Stradivarius, Bershka, H&M, etc. Prices for goods are no more expensive than the average in departments of this type in Biysk, but the models, styles, and selection are at their best.
So, right from the train station you can walk in 15 minutes to one of the largest shopping centers in Barnaul - Galaxy, where all the brands coveted by teenagers are presented, for girls there are NYX cosmetics (and not only) and here you can also buy real Converse and other shoe joys. For those who like to dress for little money, there is also a popular inexpensive clothing store called New Yorker.
