The city of Tchaikovsky in the Perm region: history, attractions, photos

This article is dedicated to the city of Tchaikovsky, in which I have lived for 35 years; this city is located in the Perm region. Today I will tell you about its location, introduce you to the sights of the city, and, of course, show a photo of the city of Tchaikovsky.

In the distant 80s, traveling on the ship “Alexander Fadeev” from Perm to Moscow, I visited here for the first time. The ship stayed here for only 2 hours, but I managed to fall in love with this green, calm town.

A tour of the streets, an excursion to the KShT (silk fabric factory), which was then famous throughout the country for its fabrics, friendly people - all this made a great impression on me, and then I thought: “I wish I could live in this city!”

Dreams come true if you really want it. In 1985, my husband’s parents were transferred to these parts to work in a rafting raid. And literally a year later, good news arrived: a place in his specialty was found in the same rafting raid for my husband, and our family is moving there. In this note I will tell you about the location of the city, introduce you to the sights, and, of course, show photos.

What to see in the city of Tchaikovsky

Tchaikovsky is replete with tourist sites, but against their background some attractions stand out significantly, constituting the special heritage and pride of the city.

Architectural and ethnographic museum complex "Saigatka" ("Peasant Estate")

  • Address: Gagarina, 98.

The oldest city building is the wooden hut of the Shchelkanovs, built in the 18th century. For a long time it was considered an architectural monument, but in 1989 it was given another purpose - the old hut became part of the ethnographic museum and became its center.

The ancient home has a rich history. Initially, the building consisted of two houses connected by a vestibule, but at the beginning of the 20th century, two heirs divided the hut in half. Its left extension was dismantled and transported to the territory of the future reservoir, where it was flooded.

The part of the hut that remained in its original place served as the home of the Shchelkanov family until 1989, when its last owner received a new apartment. Then a second life began for the house as a museum. The idea to establish an architectural and ethnographic complex here originated back in the 1960s. and the owners were asked not to change the layout of their home. Thanks to this, the hut has retained its original appearance.

When organizing the museum, a copy of its lost outbuilding was attached to the ancient house, and barns, forges and baths were erected nearby, creating the appearance of a typical peasant courtyard of the 18th-19th centuries. Inside the hut, the atmosphere of old Russian life has been recreated, and all the furniture, kitchen utensils and decorative elements are original.

Currently, the Peasant Estate Museum is considered one of the most popular attractions in the city. Here, thematic, interactive and costumed excursions are organized for tourists, mass events and holidays are organized.

Church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious

  • Address: Kosmonavtov Highway, 1.

The Cathedral of St. George the Victorious was erected in Tchaikovsky in 2003 - on the site of an ancient wooden church that bore the same name. The red brick building in the Byzantine style impresses with its scale and luxury.

The structure is noticeable from afar thanks to its five shining golden domes. Nearby stands a multi-tiered bell tower with a hipped roof, also covered in gold. There are 11 bells singing inside it.

The interior decoration of the church is rich: the extensive iconostasis is decorated with precious metals, and the walls and vaulted ceilings are full of paintings. The Church of St. George the Victorious is not only the main religious center of the city, but also its symbol.

Monument to Pyotr Tchaikovsky

  • Address: Tchaikovsky Square.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is a legendary composer who gave the world many operas, ballets and symphonies that remain in demand to this day. The birthplace of the genius was the village of Votkinsk, located near modern Tchaikovsky. It was because of this proximity that the young city got its name and as a result became a monument to the famous musician.

The monument to Tchaikovsky was erected in 2008 in front of the Cultural and Sports Center. The composer cast in bronze sits on a chair, looking into the distance full of inspired thoughtfulness. With his right hand he clutches a music book to his chest, and with his left he fingeres the keys of an invisible piano. The sculpture stands in the center of the fountain, crystal streams crashing against its base.

Church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious

The construction of the Orthodox church took place in 2007. It was built in the Byzantine style. This landmark of the city cannot go unnoticed. Therefore, both locals and tourists come here to admire the beauty and graceful appearance of the church. It is especially beautiful at night, when the illumination turns on. Currently, the temple is operational.

In addition to permanent exhibitions, the museum organizes touring exhibitions and themed events dedicated to holidays or historical events.

Architectural and ethnographic complex "Saigatka"

The ancient wooden hut is a unique architectural monument. It dates back to the second half of the 18th century. The hut is one of the oldest buildings in the city of Tchaikovsky. In 1997, a museum was created in the hut.

With the help of architect V.A. Pobozhenko, work was carried out here to restore the interior, glacier, utility shed and bathhouse. It is worth noting that this ancient house is located on its original historical site. This attraction is of great interest not only to local residents, but also to tourists.
