Bataysk (Rostov region) - photos and descriptions of attractions

City `s history

A spring has been flowing on the territory of Bataysk since the 14th century, at which traders traveling to China often stopped. Here in the coastal zone, by decree of Peter I, a fortress was built during his campaigns against Azov.

The settlement here was founded in 1769. The road went through it in the Kuban direction.

The name of the city means “Batu’s well”. At the end of the nineteenth century, the Vladikavkaz branch railway was built here. A large warehouse was also opened here, which provided jobs for local residents.

By the beginning of the revolution, more than twenty thousand people lived here. Bataysk received city status only in 1938. Before that, it was considered a workers' village. The coat of arms was approved at the same time. After the city was given the status, an airfield and a flight school were opened, whose graduates later became Heroes of the Soviet Union.

During the war, Bataysk was captured in 1942-1943 . The following were destroyed in the fighting:

  • railroad station;
  • bakery;
  • more than ten enterprises;
  • thousands of residential buildings.

After the end of the war, it was possible to restore the city's infrastructure over several decades.

Currently, a railway station, depot, and construction enterprises operate in the city. There is a city newspaper that covers the latest news.

The head of the city is Putilin Valery Vasilievich .

Where to take a walk in Bataysk: parks and squares

A significant part of the life of Batai residents is spent in the fresh air. They love to spend time walking through beautiful parks, enjoying nature and works of art.

Aviator Square

  • Address: Lunacharskogo street/Komsomolskaya street.

The square is dedicated to the Bataysk aviators who participated in the battles of the Great Patriotic War. The main part of the square is the memorial park. In its center is a monument to the MiG-15 Fighter. The plane looks most impressive from the far corner of the park.

Then the pedestal is not visible, and it seems that the fighter is flying over the trees. On both sides of the fighter there are memorial steles with the names of the fallen pilots. All monuments were opened in 1985 in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The second part of the park is especially popular with children. In the middle of the leafy grove there are trampolines and columns of balls. Here you can rent a car or motorcycle. On holidays, children's shows, competitions and master classes are held in the park.

Another attraction of the square is the Lovers' Bridge, spanning an artificial reservoir. The forged railings are full of locks, which secure the boys and girls as a symbol of the strength of their relationship.

Peoples' Friendship Park

  • Address: st. Astrakhanskaya/st. Belarusian.

Peoples' Friendship Park is a venue for festivals, folk holidays and thematic shows. In the summer, the scenery of a peasant settlement is created here: huts, wells, carts, and haystacks appear.

Chickens and sheep walk behind a wicker fence. Animators dress in Russian folk costumes, sing songs, play the harmonica and balalaika, and lead round dances. Concerts are held on the open stage.

One of the decorations of the park is a rose flower bed stretching along the path. Crimson flowers fill the park with a delicate fragrance. Also on the territory of the park there is a sports ground with horizontal bars and parallel bars. Next to it there are children's slides and swings.

The park is especially popular during the annual fair. Farmers sell homemade eggs, milk, cheese, pastries, sweets, fresh vegetables and homemade souvenirs on the site.

Ecology and climate

The Bataysk climate is considered temperate continental . Winters are very snowy, but the snow does not last long, as thaws occur quite often. Snowfalls here are very heavy and long-lasting, which is why transport problems often arise in the city. Road services do not always cope with the amount of precipitation.

Spring is quite short, lasting only a few weeks. Summer is hot and steppe. Even at night the air temperature remains high. Autumn in Bataysk is rainy and cold.

The average temperature in January is -2, and in July - +25.

The environment in this city is not bad. Due to the fact that there are few industrial enterprises on the territory of Bataysk , the air is not so polluted .

There are many squares, parks and green spaces. When constructing new high-rise buildings, a recreation area with a large number of trees must be designed.

The Koysug River often overflows its banks due to heavy rainfall in spring and autumn.

Urban population

Bataysk is one of the cities whose population has not decreased since the collapse of the Soviet Union. In the 90s, the population was 93 thousand people, and in 2015 - already 120 thousand. The increase in numbers is mainly due to the construction of a large number of residential buildings and the development of the city's infrastructure. This attracts a young working population.

Mostly young families live in new buildings in Bataysk. The city has every opportunity for the development and education of the younger generation.

    Introduction

    Old coat of arms

Bataysk is a city (since 1938, founded in 1769) of regional subordination in the Rostov region of Russia.

    Population - 104.1 thousand people (2010).

The mayor of the city is Valery Vasilyevich Putilin.

    Geography

The city is located on the Koysug River, 8 km southeast of Rostov-on-Don and is its satellite city. Its territory area is 77.68 km².

    Story

    2.1. Etymology

There are several versions about the origin of the city's name. According to one of them, Bataysk got its name from the Bataysu river, which in turn is translated as “Batu stream,” whose headquarters were located in these places. According to another version, the name of the city comes from the words Ba-Tai-Su, which in Turkic means “wet lowland with a stream”[2].

    2.2. Base

During the 18th century, the lands near present-day Bataysk passed from Russia to Turkey and back several times, finally becoming part of the Russian Empire following the Russian-Turkish War of 1768-1774, after which the Azov province was formed on the conquered territory. However, the settlement of these lands began earlier: back in 1769, Great Russian peasants crossed the Don and settled on the banks of the Koysug River, founding the Batayskaya Sloboda. Around the same time, the Cossacks settled downstream, founding the Koysug settlement[3].

2.3. XIX - early XX centuries

In 1801, the village of Batayskoye consisted of one street, later named Naberezhnaya (now Polovinko), built between the current Kalinin and Kuibyshev streets. In the center of the village, where Korotky and Maly lanes are now located, there was a suburban center. By 1810, a wooden church in the name of St. Michael the Archangel was built on it, as well as a village government building, a massacre, a prison house and, somewhat later, a rural applied school[4].

Bataysk expanded to the south mainly along Mostovoy (Kuibysheva) Lane[5]. Tserkovnaya (Leningradskaya), Mikhailovskaya (Lunacharskogo) streets, and Jordansky Lane (Kalinina) appeared.

In 1856, Bataysk was the center of the volost of the same name, which included the settlement of Koysug, the villages of Kuleshovka, Vysochino, Kochevanchik, Samarsky, the villages of Novo-Nikolaevka, Novo-Bataysk[6].

On July 14, 1875, the Bataysk station of the Vladikavkaz Railway was opened.

In 1887, the Rostov district, which included Bataysk, was transferred from the Yekaterinoslav province to the Don Army Region[4].

In 1904, 17,616 people lived in the village of Batayskoe; there were 11 streets, 2576 residential buildings, 2 churches and 4 lower schools[5].

    2.4. Soviet period

In 1924, the Bataysky district was formed, with its center in the village of Bataysky (since 1927 - a working village).

In 1930, it was decided to build an airfield on the eastern outskirts of Bataysk, around which a new microdistrict grew up - Aviagorodok. An aviation school and an aircraft repair plant were opened. In 1935, a bakery opened[7].

In 1938, the Bataysky district was liquidated, and Bataysk was given the status of a city of regional subordination.

During Soviet times, Bataysk continued to develop as an industrial center and a major railway junction. By 1940, such large enterprises as MZhBK, RMZ and Rostovvodprom appeared. With the opening of Rostovvodprom, the RDVS district began to form in the south of the city[7].

During the Great Patriotic War in November 1941, a serious danger of occupation loomed over the city when, during the offensive, the Germans managed to take Rostov. The bombing of Bataysk intensified, attempts to counter them with the help of U-2 aircraft and anti-aircraft guns did not bring success[8]. However, already on November 28-29, the Red Army launched a counteroffensive, liberating Rostov and throwing the Germans back to Taganrog.

The following summer, during the beginning of the offensive in the Caucasus, on July 27, 1942, Bataysk was taken almost without a fight by fascist German troops. After a 196-day occupation, it was liberated on February 7, 1943 by troops of the Southern Front during the Rostov operation[8].

In the post-war years it continued to grow; in 1959, the village of Koysug was included in the city limits[9].

    Real estate in different areas

The beginning of Bataysk is considered to be Polovinko Street, which is sometimes called Embankment. The construction of the city began with it. It is part of the Northern district of the city.

Bataysk is divided in half by a railway, which is crossed by two road bridges. If they are repaired, then a real transport collapse occurs in the city.

On the right side of the railway is the Vostochny district, and on the left is Zarya.

In the sixties, the small village of Koysug was included in Bataysk. But the settlement of Red Garden, which is located a few meters from the border of Bataysk, belongs to the Azov region and is a separate settlement.

Most of the city has one-story private houses. Relatively recently, multi-storey residential complexes began to be built. Many of them are already inhabited by young families. Thus, 14 high-rise buildings were built in the Northern region. Housing prices here are quite high, since the area is located next to the highway leading to Rostov-on-Don. A one-room apartment in these houses costs more than 2 million rubles.

New multi-storey residential complexes have also been built in the eastern region. The cost for a one-room apartment is about 1.5 million rubles, and a private house can be bought for 2.7 million rubles. The historical Batayska marshalling yard is located in this area.

Most government buildings and administration are located on Lenin and Rabochaya streets. This is the city center where a large amount of transport is concentrated. But due to gas pollution, this area is considered not the best for living.

RDVS is the area in which the main production facility, the Mechanical Repair Plant, is located. Housing here will cost from 1.5 million rubles for a private small house. This area is far from the center. Without your own transport, getting to the city or Rostov will be problematic. One bus goes here.

Zarya or Aviator Square is considered the best district of Bataysk. The infrastructure is well developed here: there are schools, several kindergartens, parks and hospitals. The cost of housing varies from 1.6 million rubles to 3 million.

The village of Koysug consists only of one-story buildings. Many houses are built of mud and straw, and the outside is lined with brick. Transport comes here regularly, there are shops and parks. A house in this village costs 2.5 million rubles.

Beautiful temples and churches of Bataysk

Pilgrimage tourism in Bataysk is developing thanks to numerous churches, some of which have no analogues in the entire country.

    Temple of John the Russian

    • Address: stop "Aviagorodok".

John the Russian was a participant in the Russian-Turkish war of 1710-1713. and was captured by the Tatars. Once in Asia Minor, John refused to convert to Islam, maintaining his devotion to Christianity, for which he was subjected to severe torture. John's life is entwined with legends and tales of miracles that happened to him. After his death, he was canonized as a Saint.

In Russia there are only three churches consecrated in honor of John the Russian: in Novosibirsk, Kuntsevo and Bataysk. The architecture of the Bataille church is simple: a one-story, slate-roofed building with golden domes. The main feature of the church is the park with the only monument in the country in honor of John the Russian.

Church of the Ascension of the Lord

    • Address: Tsimlyanskaya st., 16A.

In 1872, a wooden five-domed church was built in the village of Koysug (currently Bataysk district). It belonged to the Catherine diocese; a reference book has been preserved from those times. The complex included a school, a gatehouse and a parsonage. Next to the church stood a brick bell tower.

In the 1930s, the complex was completely destroyed. The only reminders of the temple were the ruins of the first tier of the bell tower. The revival of the temple took place in 1990. A new brick building was built on the site of the old church.

It was decorated with elegant platbands, pediments, guttas, kokoshniks with jagged friezes and pilasters. The red and white palette gave the building an elegant look. The temple and bell tower are covered with tents with small domes. The interior decoration of the temple was completed in 2006. The temple was consecrated that same year, and since then it has been in operation.

Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and Matrona of Moscow

    • Address: st. Matrosova, 1B.

Construction of the brick temple in the tent style began in 2014. Four years later, a grand opening and procession took place.

The temple has a cruciform base. The two-story building is decorated with stained glass windows, figured gables, turrets and is crowned with a majestic tent. The belfry is made in the same style. There are porches on both sides, reminiscent of the entrance to a mansion from the times of Tsarist Rus'.

Against the background of the eastern facade there is a monument to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The House of Culture is also located here, as well as other interesting places in Bataysk.

Temple of the Holy Healer Panteleimon

    • Address: st. Polovinko, 223A.

The modern temple is made in the style of Russian architecture. The main building of the city's Orthodox landmark ends with a tent, as does the belfry built over the refectory. The central quadrangle is decorated with kokoshniks.

In addition to services, the Panteleimon Church hosts charitable events, such as the “Basket of Kindness” to help those in need, and children’s Sunday school classes. The temple actively participates in work with youth and city events.

    Infrastructure and problems

The pressing problems of Bataysk are the same for all districts of the city. This is most often:

    • Hot water shutdown in summer. If there are no water heating elements at home, residents risk being left without hot water until the heating season begins.
    • Low water pressure, due to which the upper floors are often left without water supply. Residents are forced to install special pumps in the system.
    • River flooding. Due to its close location to the river, Bataysk often floods during the thaw season and in the autumn. In the private sector, basements are flooded.
    • Central heating is very expensive. In winter, residents of apartment buildings are charged huge sums for heating, so many have switched to autonomous systems and completely abandoned housing and communal services for heating their homes.

There are eleven schools in the city. There are also quite a lot of kindergartens, but you need to register in them in advance, as the city is growing and there are not enough places for everyone.

There is also a railway college here, which trains specialists to work in the field of railway transport.

There are three music schools, five cultural palaces, a cinema, sports grounds, an art school, libraries, a clinic and hospital, and a newspaper publishing house. There are several post offices.

    Zip code - 346880. Telephone code - 86354.

The city has quite a lot of shops, cafes and restaurants.

Transport links are good, but there is little transport to remote areas. During rush hour there is often a crush.

Arena Bataysk offers various plots: shooting games, detective quests, strategies. The establishment also offers a party organization service. For this purpose, a cafe with a varied children's menu is open.

    Children's playground "Solnechnaya"

    • Address: Vostochnoe highway, 17B.

The children's playground belongs to the Solnechnaya recreation center. It is located on the green bank of an artificial canal with bridges across it. On the site of this place there is a play area with colorful swings, slides, carousels and a rope playground.

There are exercise machines for sports. There are paved paths across the lawn for bicycles, roller skates and scooters, which can be rented. The complex is complemented by jumps and obstacles. This is a wonderful place for active children's recreation in the fresh air.

    Cinema "Illusion"

    Jobs and main businesses

The city's economy is built on several large enterprises and the operation of a railway station. The average salary here is fifteen thousand rubles. Main jobs:

    • The Bataysk locomotive depot has closed its repair and carriage departments. Now repairs are being carried out at Tikhoretskaya station. The depot employs far fewer people than when it was founded. New workers are rarely needed there.
    • The Elektrosvet plant, which produces electrical equipment for domestic cars, is one of the main enterprises providing jobs to city residents. It has been operating for over 45 years.
    • Plant for the production of tanks for storing and transporting oil OJSC Razmetkon. Companies such as Lukoil, Gazprom and TNK cooperate with him.
    • The enterprise for the production of metal structures for the construction of buildings, JSC Konstruktsiya, is also one of the large production facilities of the city.

All these enterprises often require highly specialized specialists. But city residents more often have to look for work in the larger Rostov-on-Don, since the variety of vacancies is noticeably different from those offered in Bataysk.

    Active recreation in Bataysk

Sports complexes in Bataysk are varied. They are suitable for both adults and children and serve two purposes: to entertain citizens and to promote a healthy lifestyle.

    Swimming pool "Bataysk"

That monument represented life-size figures of two fighters: the first was holding a machine gun, and the hand of the second was resting on the shoulder of a comrade. The monument was made of plaster, which led to its rapid destruction.

In 1975, the remains of soldiers from other graves were added to the mass grave. At the same time, the monument was replaced with a new one - bronze. It was called the “Oath of Generations.” The figures of three fighters are carved into the slab. This is a warrior of the First World War, the Great Patriotic War and a soldier of our time.
