The visiting card of the Republic of Tatarstan is Kazan. In this city, centuries-old traditions and modern technologies are harmoniously intertwined. Kazan symbolizes the unity of Asia and Europe, East and West. But what do we know about the Tatar outback? What do we know about the province of the republic? For example, where is Zelenodolsk located? What is this city? How do its inhabitants live? In the article we will answer these and other questions related to the geographical location, economy and climatic conditions of the region.
Acquaintance
Zelenodolsk is a relatively young city located in the Republic of Tatarstan. It occupies the territory on the left bank of the Volga. It is separated from Kazan by forty kilometers. The area of the settlement exceeds 3,800 hectares. According to 2006 statistics, there are 99,000 registered people in the city. Where Zelenodolsk is located, a developed transport infrastructure has been formed. The municipality is surrounded by a network of roads and railways.
It received its city status in 2005. During the same period, the territory of the Zelenodolsk municipal district was assigned to it. Climatic conditions had a tremendous influence on the formation of the architectural ensemble of the administrative center. Today, where Zelenodolsk is located, there are two river terraces. They are formed by ravine complexes, lakes, forests and meadow systems. Between these floodplain terraces there is a transition, which is a steep slope. Its height exceeds thirty meters.
The settlement is divided into two main parts. Between them there is a deep ravine. Its bottom is occupied by a railway line connecting Yoshkar-Ola with Kazan. The city plan provides for three zones. There are industrial, recreational and residential. Manufacturing enterprises are located just south of where Zelenodolsk and its residential neighborhoods are located. The city-forming industries are shipbuilding, woodworking, and mechanical engineering.
Transport
Within the city limits there is the Green Dol station of the Gorky Railway, which is key for the transport provision of the Mari El Republic - an electrified line to Volzhsk and a non-electrified line to Yoshkar-Ola - Yaransk depart from it. Also, the Kazan-Moscow and Moscow-Kazan railway connections pass through the Zeleny Dol station. Near the city there is a highway to Yoshkar-Ola and there are road (near the Kazan village of Zaymishche) and railway (Romanovsky) bridges across the Volga (Romanovsky Bridge), near the city there is a ferry crossing, which before the construction of the bridge across the Volga (Zaymishche) was the main highway M7 .
City transport is represented by five bus routes, covering almost all parts of the city, including remote ones. In Soviet times, large LiAZ-677 buses and medium LAZ-695 buses were widespread in the city. In post-Soviet times, the municipal motor transport enterprise of the city of Zelenodolsk PATP reached bankruptcy, and the bulk of transportation began to be carried out by private entrepreneurs in minibuses, represented by small PAZ buses and Gazelle minibuses. Since 2009, large buses (NefAZ) of red color from the Kazan PATP-5 began to serve the city again, and since 2010 - also green in color from the revived ZPATP. Bus routes No. 2 and No. 104 are represented by new large NefAZ buses running on gas fuel and with a lower seating position.
Suburban and intercity buses No. 104 Zelenodolsk-Kazan, No. 403 Zelenodolsk-Volzhsk and others depart from the bus station, which have intermediate stops along the way in the city.
Taxis in the city are represented by several companies. In urban transport there is a system of transport cards (automated fare payment system).

A few kilometers away, the conveyor lines of the OJSC Zelenodolsk Plant named after Gorky operate. The Volga Region Plywood and Furniture Plant is also located here. In addition to them, sleeper impregnation and plywood factories and a clothing factory operate in the region.
A ring of utility and storage facilities has formed around industrial enterprises. In this part of the city of Zelenodolsk there are car depots, repair shops, and parking lots. The lion's share of warehouses is not heated. They store a supply of food products necessary to ensure the livelihoods of city residents.

Since 1897, the village was called Paratsky Zaton (Paratsk), and since 1928 - the working village of Zeleny Dol. In 1932 it was transformed into the city of Zelenodolsk.
Since the end of the 19th century, the backwater became a place for wintering and repair of river ships, which marked the beginning of the Zelenodolsk shipbuilding plant (now the Zelenodolsk plant named after Gorky).
As a result of the rise in the water level of the Kuibyshev reservoir and the flooding of the coastal zone, during the construction of the Kuibyshev hydroelectric station, the coastline has changed greatly.
Now the largest public-private investment project is beginning to be implemented to create by 2025 within the agglomeration on the territory of 3.64 thousand hectares along the M7 highway between Zelenodolsk and Kazan a new satellite city “Green Dol” with an estimated population of 100 (hereinafter - 157) thousand people, housing stock 4.1 million m², construction cost 140 billion rubles. with predominantly low-rise buildings turning into high-rise buildings from the planned Zelenodolsk microdistrict "Volzhskaya Venice" on alluvial semi-wetlands near Aisha and further through Orekhovka, where the zone of individual cottage construction is already being developed, in the direction to the Kazan village of Zalesny, which makes it possible in the future to annex Zelenodolsk to Kazan.
