Count's pier

From the list of must-sees in Sevastopol in one day - of course, the coast of the Sevastopol Bay - Grafskaya Marina, a memorial sign of the floating bridge across the bay, a monument to sunken ships, which has become a symbol of Sevastopol. This is where many tourists begin their acquaintance with Sevastopol .

A little history. In 1855, a floating bridge (i.e., a 19th century pontoon) was built across the Sevastopol Bay, along which Russian troops left to the northern side of the bay. This meant the end of the defense of Sevastopol and the surrender of the city to the enemy.

“Almost every soldier, looking from the northern side at the abandoned Sevastopol, sighed with inexpressible bitterness in his heart and threatened the enemies” (L. Tolstoy “Sevastopol in August”). There is a memorial sign at the site where the bridge begins on the south side.

Monument to the sailor Cat

(St. Heroes of Sevastopol)

A monument was unveiled to the hero of the forays, the owner of exceptional courage and resourcefulness, the most famous participant in the first defense of Sevastopol on May 26, 1956. He is not at all great and modest, but so expressive that he is worthy of attention.

The bronze bust of Peter Koshka is mounted on a three-meter granite base. The sailor’s daring, courageous face and cap, dashingly pushed to the back of his head, symbolize the bright national character. Such people are capable of any heroic deeds.

There is a well-known legend that Peter once saved the life of Admiral Kornilov. The officer thanked him for his action, to which the sailor replied: “The Cat is pleased with the kind word!”

Artillery Bay

Artillery Bay, or Artbukhta , is the very center of the city, where there is an embankment, cafes and entertainment venues.

Here, perhaps, is the largest concentration of fish restaurants in Sevastopol, where you should try, first of all, red mullet and horse mackerel. From Artbukhta you can see the monument to the Sunken Ships and the “Bayonet and Sail”.

This is the best area for young people to settle in; it is always noisy and crowded. Those who come with children can visit the aquarium and dolphinarium.

There is a boat pier in Artbukhta, from where you can get to the northern part of the city, as well as to the beach in Uchkuevka (this is one of the best beaches in the area, like Lyubimovka, and in Artbukhta itself the beach is “concrete”).

Artbukhta is the place where excursions in Sevastopol begin and end. And if this is your first time in the city, it’s worth taking a sightseeing tour. For example, here for 600 rubles. You will be taken around the city and shown all the iconic places.

Historical square and Panorama of Sevastopol defense

The next thing on the list that is worth seeing in Sevastopol in 1 day on your own is the Historical Square. It is located almost in the center of the city, near Ushakov Square (by the way, the main order of sailors, introduced during the Great Patriotic War through the efforts of the People's Commissar of the Navy Kuznetsov, was the Order of Ushakov).

If you walk 100 meters past the sailor's club with a spire, you will already find yourself in the park. At the entrance to the park there is a monument to Totleben (erected in 1909), the famous Russian fortification engineer, who applied his knowledge not only to the construction of Sevastopol bastions and mine galleries, but also to the Kronstadt, Brest and other fortifications of the once vast Russian Empire of the 19th century.

Around Totleben are depicted the executors of the engineer's will - ordinary Russian soldiers with an entrenching tool that still regularly serves in the modern Russian army - a pick and a shovel BSL-110 (a large sapper shovel 110 cm).

If you walk up the Historical Square, there are many memorable places marked with signs: Battery No. 100 Burleya, Battery No. 120 Manto, memorial signs Yazonovsky Redoubt, 4th Bastion (glorified by Tolstoy), Kostomarov Battery... The sectors of fire from the batteries, of course, are not visible - there are trees around.

Almost at the very top is a panorama of the Defense of Sevastopol. Ticket sales begin at 9:30. The tour starts at 10:00. Excursions only in groups with a guide. Nearby is a collection of anchors - from galleys to battleships, a fountain and ancient cannons.

Panorama of the Sevastopol defense 1854 - 1855 (this has been the official name since the 1950s, and was previously called “Storm of June 6, 1955”) is impressive. It’s cool inside, twilight, with a circle depicting the defense - from the Sevastopol Bay in the rear of the defense to the Malakhov Kurgan at the forefront of the attack of the French and British. Heavy losses on both sides. The commander on the mound is Admiral Nakhimov.

During the war (1942), the panorama was damaged, and then it was restored with the addition of details and new characters, which, according to the reenactors, should have enhanced the heroism of the situation, given the canvas an upbeat flavor, and increased its educational role. For example, the painting depicted a new character - a young drummer.

Where to stay in Sevastopol

To choose a place to live in Sevastopol, it is advisable to know its geographical features and determine the purpose of your visit.

  • Sevastopol is a sprawling city, and not all housing is close to the sea or the main attractions, and many of them are compactly located in the center.
  • The city lies among countless coves, but not all of them are beaches. Most of the coastline is occupied by piers or simply a rocky shore.

Sevastopol has both city hotels and several resort complexes with a beach. Of the latter, “Aquamarine Resort & SPA” is especially famous - due to the presence of a water park and proximity to the beach, and “Sand Bay” - also due to its location by the sea. The demand among tourists has determined hundreds of offers of guest houses and apartments; they can be rented in almost any part of Sevastopol. In addition, the city has a dozen modern hostels.

Malakhov Kurgan

If you are deciding what to see in Sevastopol in 1 day, then do not forget about the Malakhov Kurgan. This is the height in Sevastopol. To get to it, you need to go around the Sevastopol Bay by bus or trolleybus. The height of the mound is 97 meters above sea level. Topographers would call it a height of 97.0.

The main battles of the Crimean War are associated with Malakhov Kurgan. It is he who is depicted in the Sevastopol panorama (the same one that is located in the Historical Park mentioned above).

During the Great Patriotic War, there was a battery of guns on the mound, taken from the cruiser Chervona Ukraine sunk by the Germans.

On Malakhov Kurgan there are monuments, tablets, incl. at the site where Nakhimov was wounded, weapons from both wars and a small museum exhibition in the defensive tower at the top of the mound.

Sights of Sevastopol in 1 day by car

If you came to Sevastopol with your own transport or rented a car, you have the opportunity to see more in a day than an ordinary “horseless” tourist can. Of course, there will also be problems associated with parking a car in the historical part of the city.

Parking lots in Sevastopol on Yandex.Map

We suggest starting your acquaintance with the city on foot and with an abbreviated program . You can leave your car in the largest parking lot near the Historical Square and go along the route: Catherine Square - Matrossky Boulevard - Nakhimov Square - Grafskaya Pier - Primorsky Boulevard - Sinopsky Descent - Vladimirsky Cathedral (tomb of the admirals) - Catherine Square.

This route is on the map

Then it all depends on your preferences, there are many options. For example, you can go to Balaklava to get acquainted with this amazing city, visit the unique Balaklava underground museum complex , climb the picturesque path to the top of Mount Kastron, see the Genoese fortress of Chembalo and take a photo against the backdrop of the waters of Balaklava Bay.

By car you can quickly get to Inkerman, where you can visit the famous Vintage Wine Factory . Although tasting is not available for those driving, there is, of course, a company store at the factory! Along the way you can visit the St. Clement Cave Monastery .

If you are more interested in the natural beauty of Crimea, go to Cape Fiolent to admire the panorama of the coastline, indented by dozens of bays, from its height. On this trip you can plan a visit to St. Gergius Monastery , one of the oldest in Crimea. From here, if the 850-step staircase is not intimidating, you can go down to the famous Jasper Beach .

Sapun Mountain

The next item on the list of what to see in Sevastopol in 1 day is Sapun Mountain. On Sapun Mountain there is a temple, a monument to those who fell during the Second World War, a panorama of the assault on Sapun Mountain, an exhibition of weapons and military equipment in an open area.

During the liberation of Sevastopol, the nominal capture of Sapun Mountain as the predominant height predetermined the liberation of Sevastopol. Also from Sapun Mountain there is a very beautiful view from Balaklava to Inkerman (more on them later).

Monument to P.S. Nakhimov

(Nakhimov Square)

On polished granite there is a bronze sculpture of the outstanding naval commander, installed on November 18, 1898, on the 45th anniversary of the Battle of Sinop. Then the Russian Black Sea Fleet under the command of Admiral Nakhimov defeated the Turkish squadron in a matter of hours.

You look at this majestic monument and understand how important the educational value of monumental art can be. because immediately there is a desire to measure all actions with the life of this outstanding personality, for whom the honor of an officer is the meaning of life. To understand this, it is enough to read the words of the order embossed on the scroll under the bowed banner.

Unfortunately, in 1928 the monument was dismantled (Nakhimov was registered as a servant of the Tsar), and a sculpture of Lenin was installed in its place. Fortunately, in 1959, the admiral in a naval overcoat with the cross of St. George on his chest returned to his rightful place.

Museum of the History of the Black Sea Fleet

The Museum of the History of the Black Sea Fleet (800 meters north of the historical boulevard) is the next item on the list of what to see in Sevastopol in one day. The museum presents an exhibition from the Sevastopol defense of 1854-1855. to almost the present day: Nakhimov’s personal belongings, objects and documents testifying to the history of bygone times.

Tower of the Winds

This is one of the oldest buildings in Sevastopol. Consisting of seven sides, the tower fully corresponds to the style of classicism. Its walls are decorated with gods of the winds; under the cornices you can see drawings with lion masks. The shape of the roof resembles a tent.

The tower was intended for ventilation of library premises, which were destroyed during the fire.

Mikhailovskaya battery

Next, what you need to see in Sevastopol is the Mikhailovskaya Battery. You can get to the Mikhailovskaya Battery by boat from Artillery Bay. The cost of the trip is about 50 rubles.

The Mikhailovskaya battery is a typical example of a fortification structure of the 19th century. Reminiscent of Fort Alexander I in Kronstadt or the ring barracks of the citadel of the Brest Fortress: thick walls made of local material (sandstone) with windows - loopholes and high vaulted ceilings.

Inside there is an interesting museum exhibition on time from the construction of the battery to the Great Patriotic War. There is a military unit next to the fort (there are many of them in Sevastopol).

Museum historical and memorial complex to the heroic defenders of Sevastopol “35th Coastal Battery”

(b.Kazachya, Alley of Defenders 35th bb, 7)

The history of this fortification began with construction in 1913. In 1929 it was put into operation. Most of the complex was located underground, with two gun pods located on the surface.

The battery was a reliable Sevastopol defender from the sea side, but it had to hold the defense from land. In June-July 1942, some of the most tragic events of the war took place here. On the night of July 1, the command staff was evacuated, leaving more than 80 thousand people without ammunition and food to certain death. In 2007, enthusiasts began the creation of this historical and memorial complex.

Today there are daily free excursions that include visits to the battery casemates and the Pantheon of Remembrance. Those who visited this memorial, created today, have very similar emotions and a strong impression of such a concentration of historical truth.

Balaclava

Next on the list of what to see in Sevastopol and the surrounding area is Balaklava . This city is often called Crimean Nice or San Remo. Indeed, Balaklava is unlike any other city in Crimea; there is a beautiful bay with yachts, on both sides of which the city is built.

From above Balaklava Bay the remains of the ancient fortress Chembalo are clearly visible. Until 1992, the bay was closed. There was a complex for repairing and sheltering submarines. Moreover, everything was classified so that even the local residents did not know what was in this bay. The visit is for excursion only - groups are formed. The duration of the excursion is 1 hour 20 minutes. Ticket price is 300 rubles.

The museum is educational: the history of the facility, a tour of the premises, a facility for repairing submarines and sheltering people during a nuclear attack lasting up to a month. The object was designed for the simultaneous presence of two medium class boats (letter S or Shch) or 5 small class M boats (or malyutka).

St. Vladimir's Cathedral

(Suvorova St., 3,)

The monumental building of the cathedral is located on the City Hill. This active Orthodox church has a special purpose. This is the tomb of the admirals of the Russian fleet. Its laying took place in the summer of 1854, two months remained before the siege of the city.

Construction ended in 1888. In the lower temple there is a common tomb of the four admirals in the form of a black marble cross. M.P. is buried here. Lazarev, who died in 1851, V.A. Kornilov, V.I. Istomin, and P.S. Nakhimov, who died on the Sevastopol bastions. Until 1920, nine more naval officers were buried in the cathedral.

The temple has a very difficult fate; fortunately, worship resumed in 1992. Today, the traditions of naval Orthodoxy are especially revered here: the consecration of ship flags and officers' daggers.

This building, designed in a strict classical style and discreetly decorated with bronze and cast iron details, makes a very strong impression.
