An important settlement in Bashkortostan, Neftekamsk, whose population is steadily growing, plays an important role not only in the republic, but throughout the region. This large economic and industrial center appeared on the map of Russia relatively recently, but it occupies a worthy place among its other, more ancient counterparts. Let's talk about how the city grew and who inhabits it.
Story
The city of Neftekamsk arose on the outskirts of the village of Kasevo, a settlement of palace peasants founded at the beginning of the 18th century. The city arose as a result of the discovery of the large Arlan oil field in 1955. At first it was a working settlement for oil workers. In 1972, based on the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR dated December 17, 1970 “On the construction and reconstruction of factories of the Ministry of Automotive Industry to provide the Kama Automobile Plant with spare parts and components,” the Neftekamsk Automobile Plant was built.
General information
The city of republican subordination is the fourth municipal entity in terms of economic potential after Ufa, Sterlitamak and Salavat. The main industries are oil production and electric power, mechanical engineering, light industry, processing and food industries.
Neftekamsk is also the fourth most populous city in the republic with 127 thousand inhabitants in 2022. Representatives of 60 nationalities live here, with the dominant position of representatives of three of them - Tatars (31.5% of the total population), Russians - 29.7% and Bashkirs - 25.8%. In fourth place are the Mari with a share of 9.9%. The population is very young, with an average age of 36.4 years.
In terms of quality of life it ranks second in Bashkortostan. The population of Neftekamsk is increasing almost exclusively due to natural growth: the birth rate is 15.5 people per thousand inhabitants, the death rate is 10.4. The working-age population makes up 60.20% of the total population. The unemployment rate (1.09%) is one of the lowest in the country. The average salary in the region is 28,924 rubles.

Timezone
Climate and ecology of Neftekamsk
The climate in Neftekamsk is continental: hot summers, cold winters. Although, in light of recent events (global warming, for example), it is difficult to talk about sustainable climate dynamics. One summer can be incredibly hot and dry, another – rainy and even cool; winter can also be either warm or record cold. In other words, you never know what to expect.
A third of the city's territory is surrounded by forest - a pine forest, in which various sporting events are often held. The forest also simply serves as a place for the townspeople to spend time, fortunately, all the conditions for this are available: a lake located in the depths of the forest, and a health path (a pedestrian asphalt path) for walking and running, and horizontal bars for athletes. There are no living creatures as such in the forest; in any case, no eyewitnesses have yet been found who have noticed and captured various animals. Physical education teachers of local schools like to conduct their lessons in the forest, especially in winter - a very good and convenient place for skiing, and, of course, for running (fresh air, after all).

There is a small park in the city center. Trees also grow there (but no longer pine trees) and there are all kinds of attractions for the amusement of children and adults. In the same park there is a platform with a stage where various concerts and events are held on both a city and national scale.
Until recently, the city had Lake Svetloye, which, for unknown reasons, was drained. No one knows exactly why, but this fact caused a great public outcry among the townspeople (staging real Internet battles on the local city forum).

From village to city
In 1957, the first oil was produced, which began to flow through the newly built main oil pipeline to the Ufa oil refineries. The following year, industrial production of hydrocarbons began. In 1959, the village of Kasevo was transformed into the working village of Neftekamsk with a population of 2,946 residents. In the same year, the first two panel houses were commissioned, in which a dormitory and a construction department office were located. The following year, family workers received the first apartments, a bread factory, a clinic, and a children's music school were built.
The population of Neftekamsk began to grow rapidly due to the influx of labor resources from various regions of the country for the construction of the city, field development and oil production. In 1963, the village was given city status. Neftekamsk is actively being improved; in 1964, the first 120-apartment residential building was put into operation. In 1967, the city had a population of 30,000. In 1968, the Karmanovskaya State District Power Plant was put into operation, providing electricity to residents and industrial enterprises.
Economy
Industry
Neftekamsk is a large industrial center in the north-west of the republic. The main industries are mechanical engineering, fuel and oil industries, electric power, light and textile industries, food and processing industries.
The economic potential of the city is largely determined by the Neftekamsk Automobile Plant, which is part of the group of enterprises of PJSC KAMAZ, is the largest Russian manufacturer of special superstructures on the KAMAZ vehicle chassis and one of the main manufacturers of passenger buses in Russia. The share in the city's industrial production is more than 35%. For more than six thousand city residents it became a place of work.
The most powerful condensing thermal power station in Bashkortostan is Karmanovskaya State District Power Plant, part of Bashkir Generating Company LLC. The enterprise generates about 40% of the republic's electricity and also supplies neighboring regions of the country with electricity.
The light and textile industry is represented by Iskozh JSC. The main products of the enterprise are artificial leather, awning materials (used for the production of covering products from awnings), duplicated and tripled materials. The range of manufactured products provides the population and enterprises not only of the Republic of Bashkortostan and Russia, but also of the CIS countries.
OJSC "Amzinsky Lumber Mill" is one of the unique enterprises not only in Bashkiria, but also in Russia. This is an enterprise with a full production cycle: logging, removal, cutting, mechanical and wood chemical processing of wood. The clients of Amzinsky Lumber Mill OJSC are non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises, pulp and paper, footwear, and paint and varnish industries. In the consumer goods market, food vinegar and acid (70%) and activated carbon produced by the Amzinsky timber plant are in demand.
NKMZ-Group LLC (formerly Neftekamsk Machine-Building Plant LLC) was founded in 2002 on the production base of the Neftekamsk Drilling Tools Plant, built in 1986, and is engaged in the development and production of equipment for oil and gas industry enterprises. One of the areas of work of NKMZ-Group LLC is the development and production of packer-anchor equipment, well equipment, two-packer and multi-packer assemblies of the KOUS type that meet modern operating requirements, as well as equipment complexes that ensure all technological operations during the operation of wells and automatic shutting off the wellbore with a shut-off valve in cases of disruption of the well operating mode.
Construction
The city is built up mainly with 5-9-story buildings. A large number of buildings and structures are built according to individual projects. Shopping centers and residential buildings are being actively built in the city. A residential building on Parkovaya Street and a shopping and cultural building with a wedding palace took first place in the republican competitions “Best Construction Project”. A landmark of Neftekamsk is the pine forest that stretches along the outskirts of the city. The city has a large number of architectural monuments, entertainment centers and office buildings.
Construction of a Residential Complex
In Neftekamsk there are about 208 construction organizations of various forms of ownership, which carry out a large volume of construction and installation work in the city and surrounding areas. In terms of housing commissioning at the expense of all sources of financing, Neftekamsk ranks 3rd in Bashkortostan.
Financial services
Banking institutions are represented in the city by branches and branches of Rosselkhozbank, VTB, Sberbank and others. There are branches of more than a dozen insurance companies in the city.
Medical services
The health care system of the city of Neftekamsk has 3 treatment and preventive institutions: the central city hospital, the city dental clinic, and the republican anti-tuberculosis dispensary. A number of private medical institutions are also represented.
Population of Neftekamsk
The audience in the city is the most diverse. Among the nations, Russians, Bashkirs, Tatars and Maris predominate. But you can also meet Vietnamese, Kyrgyz, Armenians - in general, a little bit of everything (and just like in any other Russian cities). Everyone’s level of education is also different: some have barely completed three grades, while others even studied at Moscow State University (admittedly, there are not many of them).
Holiday in the city
The total population remains stable with minor fluctuations. This can be explained by the fact that already established residents (i.e. those who are tired of provincial life) tend to move to large cities, but residents of smaller towns and villages come to their places for the same reason. This is how the population cycle happens.
Transport
A developed network of highways passes through the city, connecting it with Ufa, Birsk, Yanaul, Agidel, Oktyabrsky, Izhevsk, Samara, Kazan, Perm, and Kambarka (Udmurtia).
Aviation
The airport is located in the northeast, 6 km from the city center.
Railway transport
The nearest railway junction, located 20 kilometers from the city, is the station in the village of Amzya.
Public transport
City public transport is represented by ten bus routes, which are served by Neftekamsk PATP, a branch of Bashavtotrans. The rolling stock is represented by small-class buses Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, PAZ-3203, Gazelle Vector NEXT and large-class buses NefAZ-5299.
Crime
Regarding the criminal component, it can be noted that, unfortunately, it is here (i.e. crime), although, probably, to an insignificant extent (and where, one might ask, is it not?).
Sadly, Neftekamsk occupies one of the leading positions in drug addiction in the republic. So there is something for law enforcement agencies to work on.
On local city news, you can listen to crime reports from the police department every day: how many robberies, extortions, etc. over the last 24 hours. The numbers, of course, are not encouraging, but you can live (if you are careful).
Mass media
A television
The first city television began its work in 1996. The network partner of Art-TV is TV channel 3. Since 2004, the republican TV channel BST-Neftekamsk TV Studio LLC has been operating in the city. In 2007, the city had its own TV channel “NEFTEKAMSK24”.

Districts and real estate of Neftekamsk
The city itself can be roughly divided into 3 sectors: this is the central part, in which ordinary high-rise buildings are located, the near-central part, i.e. the one where private houses with plots and a dacha sector are clustered (but there is no need for comment here). In addition, the city includes small villages such as Energetik, Tashkinovo, and several other small villages that are included in the city zone. The street names in Neftekamsk are more than standard: Lenina, Komsomolskaya, Socialist... - in general, nothing original, relics of the Soviet era.
Neftekamsk Map
There are no crime-prone areas as such, however, the areas near Dzerzhinsky (Dzerzhinka) and Karl-Marx (Karlukha) streets, according to some eyewitnesses, are the most dangerous. But all this, of course, is a matter of luck and chance, because gopniks from any other area can attack you.
The cost per square meter of a new apartment in the city can vary from 30 to 40 thousand. Of course, it will be cheaper if you invest money at the stage of laying the foundation. Used apartments are cheaper. In principle, you can buy a one-room apartment for 900 thousand.
If you don’t have enough money for an apartment, you can buy a room in a dorm; prices are usually about 450 thousand and lower, depending on the area. Most of the hostels belonged to the city at one time, but recently they have been transferred to the management of the city administration. Many residents have privatized their rooms and are trying to sell them. There are also those who are ready to buy them.

Last decades in the Soviet country
In the 80s, the growth of industry continued, the range of manufactured cars expanded significantly, and the Neftekamsk cotton spinning factory began operating. In 1980, the number of city residents reached 79,000 people.
In 1986, a new city clinic No. 1 was put into operation at the Arlanneft medical unit, and the dairy began producing ice cream, which had previously been imported from Ufa. In 1987 there were already 98,000 people. In 1988, the automobile plant produced its millionth truck. The first cooperatives were opened in the city - for the production of chebureks and consumer goods. In 1989, the number of city residents exceeded 100,000 for the first time. In the last year of Soviet power, 111,000 people lived in the city.
The best construction years
In the 70s, the city continued to be actively developed; such facilities as a new school, a clinic, a collective farm market, a ferry crossing, and the first nine-story buildings were erected. A brewery and automobile factories began operating. The population of the city of Neftekamsk continued to grow rapidly, still mainly due to a large migration flow from other regions of the country. In 1973, the city had a population of 54,000.
In 1977, a new large dental clinic was built. In the same year, the Neftekamsk Automobile Plant produced the first batch of KamAZ-5511 dump trucks. In 1979, there were 69,586 Neftekamsk residents in the city.
