Walk around Mednogorsk

The Urals are divided into Polar , Subpolar , Northern, Middle and Southern . The latter is represented by the Chelyabinsk region, Bashkiria , where the main attractions are the majestic mountains. And also in the Orenburg region , where there are almost no mountains, mostly hills. However, traveling through this region can be an interesting adventure. In terms of size, the Orenburg region ranks 29th in Russia . There are 12 cities on its territory, so it makes sense for curious tourists to tour them.

We decided to spend the summer in our mobile home. This is a great opportunity to take your dog on a trip. In addition, our two children love active games, so this trip format allows us to make stops when restless travelers need it. After staying in Orenburg for a couple of days, we decided to head to Mednogorsk . It's only 200 km, which didn't seem that far to us. On the way, we looked at the velvety steppes - here the Ural Mountains are practically invisible.

the name “Mednogorsk” due to the copper deposits found here, which were discovered in 1929. This is a real garden city, it is surrounded by greenery. Locals said that when building a new house, future owners first arrange green islands next to their home, and then move in themselves.

Therefore, walking along its streets, every now and then you find yourself in parks, which in a dense ring fence off the residential part from the city-forming enterprise - the copper-sulfur plant .

Before entering the city there is an entrance sign in the form of a key. We found his story interesting. In the 70s a commission was supposed to come to Mednogorsk But the delegates’ car missed the turn because there was no bright sign. The director of the copper-sulfur plant personally took on the development of a draft sign with the name of the city. It was made from titanium at its own factory, and now it is one of the favorite art objects for city guests.

The second symbol of the city is a ladle, which tells about the mission of the city and its main enterprise. It was installed in 2009 on the ring before entering the city.

We came for one day, but that was enough to get an idea of the city. What did we manage to see during this time? The walk started from Sovetskaya . It is built up with buildings from the 40s to the 60s. It was as if we had traveled back in time. The street starts from the “Bath” building.

Another interesting building is the Metallurg House of Culture . It opened its doors to visitors in 1961. Within its walls, 25 circles were formed in different areas: choreographic, instrumental, theatrical and others.

of the Ural cinema turned out to be very similar in style . To keep up with the times, a cinema hall was equipped here to demonstrate 3D films. We were recommended to go to a session just to see its interior design, and there was especially a lot of talk about the cafeteria, which was decorated in a retro style. But, unfortunately, we didn’t have time for the cinema.

As in any city in our country, in the center there is a monument to the memory of those killed during the Great Patriotic War . It opened in 1975 in a park that separates residential development from the industrial area.

This is the kind of walk we had around Mednogorsk . I must say that we managed to admire its sights and even talked to local residents in the park. It seemed to us that even though the city is listed in guidebooks as industrial (not tourist), you can come here for one day to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the old streets and shady alleys.

In July 1962, everything returned to normal, the Mednogorsk district was again renamed Kuvandyksky, and the final delimitation of borders occurred in 1965, when the village councils of the Khalilovsky district, previously belonging to the Novopokrovsky municipal district, again returned to their borders but under the name Kuvandyk district. That is, the territories we are accustomed to turned out to be, the Kuvandyk district was created in the form in which it exists now.
