The necessary amount was provided by the noblewoman Rukavishnikova, whose son was cured of tuberculosis in this area by the sea. Built in 1899, the lighthouse was destroyed during the Great Patriotic War and rebuilt in the middle of the last century. It rises above the sea at an altitude of 65 m. The oldest surviving mosque in Crimea is the mosque of Uzbek Khan in Old Crimea. It was erected at the beginning of the 14th century, when the city was one of the centers of the Golden Horde. The building owes its name to the Golden Horde Khan. Now it is a functioning mosque with one minaret, and the ruins of a madrasah are visible nearby. Genoese fortress is one of the main attractions of Feodosia, built in 1343. It is interesting that this powerful fortification was built in just a few years. During its heyday, the fortress had 11-meter walls with a length of about 5 km, which were protected by three dozen towers.

To this day, the Kaffa fortress (compared to a similar building of the Genoese in Sudak) has not been preserved very well. The southern wall and several of its towers are best preserved.

One of the best-preserved towers of the fortress is the Tower of Clement, built in 1348 and named after the Pope of the same name. The tower has several tiers, loopholes and a battle platform at the top.

Tower of Constantine

The Tower of Constantine is considered one of the main symbols of Feodosia. It was built in the first half of the 14th century and named after the Byzantine emperor of the same name. There is another ancient church in Feodosia, named after the archangels Michael and Gabriel. This building was built at the beginning of the 15th century. Fragments of frescoes and remains of old slabs have been preserved inside. A beautiful bell tower is attached to the building. Unfortunately, the ancient temple is closed to visitors and is in dilapidated condition.

Museums in Old Crimea

The Green Museum in Feodosia is located in the house where the writer lived for several years. And in Old Crimea (30-40 minutes by car) there is a house-museum of A. Museum of the History of Defense of the Adzhimushkay Quarries

The underground quarries of Adzhimushkaya in Kerch (1.5 hours drive from Feodosia) are known as a monument to the heroic defense of the Great Patriotic War. Here the detachments that covered the retreat of the main units after the decision to leave Kerch in May 1942 were surrounded. Underground, in the Central and Small Adzhimushkay quarries, 2 garrisons were formed, but they were unable to unite. The soldiers persevered in the most difficult conditions. Only by autumn, the soldiers, exhausted by hunger, gas attacks and explosions, were captured. Subsequently, it was decided to create an underground museum in honor of the fallen soldiers. Here you can see preserved objects (wells, mass graves) and historical reconstructions.

Monument to the Feodosian landing

The monument to the Feodosia landing was erected in honor of the memory of the soldiers of the heroic Kerch-Feodosia landing.

The Kerch-Feodosia landing operation was carried out at the end of December 1941. Its main goal is to liberate the Kerch Peninsula in order to deprive fascist troops of the opportunity to penetrate through Crimea into the Caucasus. In the future, it was planned to develop the offensive, completely unblock Sevastopol and liberate Crimea.

On the night of December 29, Soviet ships entered the Gulf of Feodosia. The first to enter the port, on patrol boats, were the advanced detachments of paratroopers. A lightning-fast and precisely calculated strike allowed the port to be captured in a matter of minutes.

Then, the cruisers landed the main landing forces and, with the support of naval artillery, fierce battles began on the streets of the city. By the morning of December 30, Feodosia and its surroundings were liberated from the German invaders.

The monument to the Feodosian landing was opened on Victory Day 1994 on the site where a monument to a 37-mm naval gun had previously stood since 1966. The monument is located at the beginning of the Paratroopers embankment, near the seaport. The monument in Feodosia depicts two warriors on a pedestal. One of them holds signal flags. At their feet is the inscription “To the Feodosian landing, 1941.”

Where to stay in Feodosia

Historical, cultural and beach Feodosia is one of the main Crimean resort cities. Closer to the sea is a justified desire for guests who come for a beach holiday. If you have the same goal, then choose housing north of the port. The best beaches of Feodosia stretch along its northern half and stretch all the way to the neighboring village of Beregovoe. If you want to get to know the main symbols and attractions of the city, on the contrary, consider options along its southern coast.

The main part of the housing, as in most Black Sea resorts, is guest houses. Sometimes the private sector is not inferior to hotels, offering huge cottages with all the amenities. However, the options are still very different, and the choice should be approached carefully. Another mass of the housing stock are hotels without a certain star rating and “three rubles”, and rarely recreation centers and sanatoriums. Popular criteria for finding housing, in addition to distance to the sea, are the availability of a certain type of food, a swimming pool, a playground or a spa. All this is also found among tourist offers in Feodosia.

Anchor of the cruiser "Red Caucasus"

The anchor of the cruiser "Red Caucasus" was found by divers at the bottom of the Feodosia Gulf. It belonged to the cruiser that made the legendary landing of the Kerch-Feodosia landing force; its anchor caught on the sea trench and the captain gave the command to unchain the anchor; the sailors carried out this task under fire from the Nazis. As a result, the cruiser "Red Caucasus" miraculously escaped with a meter-long hole in its side due to shelling. The anchor is located in Morsad Park, on Gorky Street/Lenin Street.
