Kurgan enthusiastic coach got children interested in figure skating

“I’ll lace up the right skate for now, and you straighten the tongue in the left one,” Sergei Vaganov helps his granddaughter in the locker room before training.

Natalya spends almost every evening after her main work with her students on the court. Classes at the club are free

Ulyana is almost six years old. She feels confident on the ice, which, however, is not surprising: her grandfather is the coach of the hockey team.

“Our girls go to hockey, so I first suggested that my granddaughter enroll in my section,” says Sergei Vaganov. - No, he says, I want to go to figure skating with Natalya Vladimirovna.

Natalya Ushakova is the coach of the Shchuchansky Skates club. She remembers how she once put her daughter Masha on ice at the age of six. They then lived in Kurgan. We once went to the Central Stadium, rented equipment, and Masha succeeded almost immediately. In Shchuchye, where they moved, there was no figure skating section. At first, Natalya trained her daughter herself. She adored skates since childhood. True, there weren’t many courts back then; kids honed their skills on frozen puddles. In the evening we watched performances of famous figure skaters on TV, and during the day we tried to repeat their tricks.

Masha very quickly learned her mother’s lessons, and Natalya began taking her daughter to a professional trainer in Chelyabinsk on weekends. The coach gave homework, and he and his daughter practiced them on the court in the evenings. Slowly other figure skating fans began to join them. This is how a circle was formed, then a section, which soon grew into a sports club. Now about twenty people are constantly working there. In winter, children skate, and in summer, rollerblade. We have our own roller skating school.

Seeing how the kids were drawn to Ushakova, the district administration offered her a part-time instructor. To meet her status, Natalia received a coaching diploma in addition to her higher technical education. Almost every evening after her main work she spends with her students on the court. Classes at the club are free.

“Figure skating and roller sports are expensive pleasures,” says Natalya. — How much does one piece of equipment cost? Therefore, only the desire of the child is not enough. Parents' support is needed. Without them, we won’t see any trips to competitions or a festival. Parents help with everything: cleaning the ice on the court, sewing costumes, some mothers and fathers even started skating.

“We have two daughters who go to the club: Anastasia (12 years old) and Yulia (6 years old),” said Anatoly Pushkarev. — Moreover, Nastya, like Yulia, began rollerblading from kindergarten age. My eldest daughter and I go to regional and interregional competitions. We take prizes. We performed successfully in Ufa and Chelyabinsk, were in Omsk at the Open Cup of Siberia, and at a festival in Samara. In winter, schoolchildren, especially when they are distance learning, have nothing to do in their free time, so figure skating helps out. The main thing is that the children like it.

Elena Volosnikova’s niece Sasha Klimchuk, her aunt, is her guardian. The girl is very musical, she can come up with a program on her own and adjust it with her mentor. According to Elena, the club invites professionals from other cities and willingly goes to visit them. Coaches from Samara and St. Petersburg conducted master classes in Shchuchye, and the guys attended training camps in Chelyabinsk. Natalya Ushakova herself is already sharing her experience. She is a frequent visitor to neighboring Shumikha.

And now Natalia’s wards are polishing the program for the winter festival.

— But there was a time when people told me: what kind of “Ice Princess” can we have? - Natalya Ushakova recalls with a smile.

It turns out that it still can! The festival involves both experienced skaters and those who have just learned to skate, and there are no losers. If a child makes a “flashlight” to the music, there will immediately be a flurry of applause: experts understand how difficult it is to perform the simplest element. Skaters are given gifts, and some even have soft toys thrown onto the ice. Everything is real, just like at big competitions.
