How to spend the winter holidays with children in St. Petersburg: selection
During the cold season, you can’t go for a long walk, and sitting at home is also boring. To learn something new and get vivid impressions, it is worth visiting special exhibitions and events designed specifically for children.
Scientific and entertainment platform ROBODOM
The fascinating world of technology opens up from a new side during colorful shows and technical exhibitions, where children of all ages, their parents and even some grandfathers are curious. Interactive events are held during which visitors take an active part in controlling robots, learning about their capabilities, creation and programming methods.
Mindo Tropical Butterfly Museum
It combines several projects and is a real gallery of wildlife, where amazing insects of the tropics feel free. This is a place where you can take your child in St. Petersburg even in winter, and show him an exotic piece of summer, when a fierce blizzard is howling outside the window. Here live butterflies land on your hands, from tiny moths to giants that look more like birds, and flowers that look like marigolds bloom.
Bolshoi Puppet Theater
Fairy tales live in it. Modern and classic, folk and original, they come to life thanks to the skill of the actors, speak in their voices, and since 1931 they have been joyfully welcoming little viewers. The first director of the troupe was director S. N. Shapiro. Then he was replaced by younger directors, but the principle that every children's performance should be a mini-miracle is still strictly observed.
Museum of Illusions
It opened recently, in 2015, and immediately won the recognition of visitors. The amazing secrets of magicians have always attracted the attention of the crowd. Now anyone can visit an entire complex dedicated to this art. Talented artists, brilliant engineers and masters of 3D effects took part in the creation. Density of exhibits per 1 sq.m. the largest in the world. The Glass and Ribbon Mazes, the Space Room, the Petting Zoo, exciting attractions, and educational performances are also held here in a relatively small area.
Go with your child to the Giant's House in St. Petersburg
It is part of the museum's complex of illusions. Adults often forget that they were once small too, and everything around them seemed big and mysterious. To be with your children as toys, to crawl into the hall through the keyhole and find a pet hamster there, as tall as an elephant, you just need to buy a ticket. Everyone is allowed entry.
Bottom up
The dream of walking along the stream is easily realized in this unusual room. Children adapt much faster to unusual conditions, and it gives them inexplicable pleasure to look at the chandelier on the floor and check the bed hanging on the ceiling by touch. This is one of the places where you can take a child under 5 years old in St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg) for free both on weekdays and on weekends.
City of professions "KidBurg"

Time flies by, and the guys, passionate about learning new things and testing their strengths, don’t want to leave.
Dolphinarium
A great option where to take your children in St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg) in winter. Bright spectacular shows, dolphin therapy, communication and swimming with amazing mammals who are always ready for dialogue, especially with kids.
Mirror labyrinth "Labyrinthia"
Transparent corridors, in which neither sight nor hearing can be trusted, lead along a mysterious trajectory. Not everyone can find a way out of them. The only thing that doesn't let us down is the sense of touch. At the entrance, each visitor is given special thin gloves. Here the relativity of directions and length of time is fully learned. There is no need to worry, if you cannot find a way out on your own, the administrator will always come to the rescue.
Lego Design and Robotics Center
You can build a robot from simple parts, program it for simple movements, organize races, and take part in the construction of cyclopean structures from arm-length blocks in the center’s themed halls, designed for different ages.
Interactive museum of entertaining science "LabyrinthUm"
Among the places where you should definitely go with a small child (7 years old) in St. Petersburg in winter, where interesting impressions will be guaranteed, the “laboratory” occupies a leading place. Children instantly absorb new information, and it gives food for thought and awakens a thirst for knowledge. It is especially important when it is so entertaining, as during interactive excursions that immerse you in the unknown world of unique phenomena.
Toy gallery
It seems that fun toys have always been around. So it is, but what they were like, how they changed over time and where the factory figurines came from, the guides will tell you. You can come here with very young children and gradually accustom them to the rules of visiting exhibitions, showing them that it is very interesting. And toys are the most understandable object for them so far.
Museum of Soviet slot machines
Nostalgic memories cover the older generation, and children, upon entering the hall, look with wide open eyes at the boxes and crates, not understanding how they can play with it. A visit to the exhibition space will be a great opportunity to find common ground between different generations and tell people that adults were once kids too.
Outdoor skating rink at Planet of Summer
When choosing where to go or visit in St. Petersburg with a child (children) in winter, do not forget about traditional fun. They are present in abundance on the ice, where sled and ice slides are equipped, snow fortresses are towering, and festive events, competitions and entertainment are held.

If you want to run and kick a ball without the risk of getting a bruise, then check out a bumper ball match. Soft inflatable balls protect players. This way you can collide, fly to different corners of the site, and cheer yourself and your comrades with shouts without harming your health or the surrounding area.

Children who are immersed in the mysteries of physical phenomena will be very interested in visiting a museum where touching exhibits is not only possible, but even necessary. In addition to participating in unusual experiments, visitors are offered colorful shows, educational master classes, and exciting quests.

The incredible depth of the starry sky is projected onto the dome of the hall using the latest equipment. Children are presented with information about stars, planets and nebulae in a fairy-tale form.
Zoo museum
Founded in 1838, it has long kept pace with the times. Now children will find there not frozen exhibits and fossil remains, but an amazing story about the development of the planet, presented in colorful and spectacular programs. Very little ones may feel uncomfortable in the huge halls, but older ones will probably enjoy it.
Oceanarium
The secrets of the depths of the sea are reliably hidden from human eyes, and only in aquariums can one see unusual inhabitants, who in ordinary life prefer to hide from close attention. The Planet Neptune complex is considered one of the attractions of St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg), where you can go with your children in winter in December right today, knowing for sure that they will be interested there.

"Grand Model Russia"
It is only possible to take in the vastness of our country at one glance and at the same time examine the smallest details of machines and diesel locomotives only in these halls. An amazing feeling of being part of a miracle and pride comes over you when visiting the exhibition. The map can be moved to view exciting details. Guests, like real travelers, are given binoculars along with their ticket.
Mittens gallery
Guests are greeted by an unusual guide - the doll Varya Varezhkina. She leads visitors through the rooms, talking about folk crafts and traditions, about when and where the first mittens appeared. The main goal of the museum is charity. Here they collect not money, but kind words and drawings for lonely elderly people, showing children by example what kindness and spiritual generosity is.
Equestrian club "Western Horse"
Not far from Peterhof, in a picturesque place, there is a kingdom of proud horses and riders.

Excursion to the confectionery factory named after. Samoilova
Remember how the greedy dragon from the famous cartoon wanted to drink a whole vat of chocolate. Of course, you won’t be allowed close to such equipment during your visit, but they will tell you in detail how and what candies and other sweets are made from, where the chocolate bars came from, tell you about the history of the factory, invite you to a tasting, and give you a sweet gift before leaving.
Entertainment galleries and attractions Big Funn
The unity of science, art, cinema and gaming technology has created a wonderful world where everyone will find something to their liking. Entertainment and educational park "Magic Mile"
It will be interesting for visitors of any age. For children, there are playgrounds with competitive programs and educational toys, and adults who are tired during the day can fulfill their dreams by watching a movie in the romantic setting of a painted tent, lying on special soft substrates. The action unfolds right above your head, immersing you in what is happening without leaving a trace.
CitYkids Family in the Mega Dybenko shopping center
The family center opened recently; it is focused on supporting young families and the development of children under 7 years old. During this tender period, care and attention are required. If there is a firstborn in the family, then you can get confused by the abundance of problems and questions. The center's staff took on the difficult educational and training task, talking about the development, upbringing and care of the baby. Master classes, interactive classes, family performances and concerts are held, and a why club operates.
Cinema sessions for mothers and babies
It's a great idea to combine watching an entertaining movie with the baby's restful sleep. The ingenious organizers only needed to muffle the sound and remove the blinding light. Babies of 2-5 months sleep soundly while mothers enjoy the latest film releases.
Circuses
Touring, moving, constant rehearsals. Circus performers agree to do anything to please the viewer with the dexterity of the jugglers, to amaze the courage of the trainers, to delight with the beauty of the flight of aerialists and the skill of magicians. The funny tricks of the clowns and their apt statements make children laugh and sometimes adults think.
Museums
They have long ceased to be a collection of mossy artifacts and have turned into islands of wonders, where history, geography, anthropology, traditions of different peoples and customs of ancient tribes come to life. There are a lot of them in the city and there is sure to be one in which a child’s curiosity and thirst for knowledge will awaken.
Petting zoos
It is difficult to teach a child to take care of nature just by talking about it. Everything becomes much clearer when a hedgehog sniffles quietly at hand, a meerkat peeks shyly from its enclosure, or a funny raccoon approaches sideways for a treat. Here children understand that nature is alive, looks at them with black beady eyes and reaches for a piece of apple. Such a visit will teach you to treat the world around you with respect.
Amusement parks
In winter you can also find many interesting things to do, especially if you go to the park with your children on a sunny, windless day. The Ferris wheel and the cheerful steam locomotive may sleep until spring, but the skating rink is flooded, nearby there is a hill for sledding and ice-skating enthusiasts, and the play pavilions are warm and fun.
Water parks
They consist of an open area and a closed pavilion, so you can relax here all year round. An amazing summer island with steep slides and children's pools is filled with laughter and cheerful voices.
Attractions
They are designed for different tastes and for any age, from colorful carousels, where you can go with your parents, to roller coasters, where there are restrictions not only on age, but also on health reasons. There are many similar parks in the city where you can relax with your children on weekday evenings and on weekends.
Theaters
Stories about good and evil, fairy tales and real events are played out on the stages of St. Petersburg. Performances for very young children and schoolchildren are varied and exciting, and then there will be a reason to share thoughts and impressions of what they saw.

A great overview of places to visit in St. Petersburg with children! Personal experience from 3 trips!
Hi all! Recently I asked where else to go if you are going to St. Petersburg for the 4th time, you recommended a lot of interesting places to me! When I was compiling my list of places, I was surprised at how many we visited in just 3 visits!
I thought, why don’t I advise you where to go and where not to? Make your own rating of places in St. Petersburg.
A small digression. The first visit was in August 2022, the second in October 2022, the third in the second half of November 2022, we didn’t go in 2022 for obvious reasons - almost everything in St. Petersburg was closed. So, let's begin)
1. Hermitage. Perhaps number 1 in visiting, but in my case not with a child)) At that time, my daughter was 8 years old. From the very beginning it was interesting in the halls of Egypt and the halls with the knights. There we walked slowly. But the further we went, the more our legs ached, and paintings of the Renaissance and the Renaissance were of little interest to not only the child))) We did not see Da Vinci, since we had no time for him. We looked for a way out for a long time, we even got out in the wrong place at first, we had to negotiate with the security guard to let us through the turnstile again, since the wardrobe was in a completely different place. Total 4 hours, hellishly aching legs and an aching stomach demanding food))
My advice: the first thing is to go see a certain thing, and not all at once, since neither you nor the children will have enough time for everything. By the way, if you walk around all the halls of the Hermitage it is 20 km))). The second is to buy a ticket online, there is a separate entrance and no queue.
But if we put aside our desire to embrace the immensity, then of course 10/10!
2. Museum of Socialist Life. Alas, it turned out that he could not withstand Covid and closed. But the creators hope that they will soon find a new place and begin welcoming visitors again. I give you the website https://sovietlife.spb.ru/
It would take a long time to describe, but it is a delight for both adults and children! The trick of the museum is that you can touch many of the exhibits, try them on, ride, play with, and so on and so forth! At the entrance we were given tickets for a trolleybus, which we validated, and a bookmark in the shape of an Olympic bear. Despite the small size of the museum, we spent almost 3 hours there, laughing and having fun! A lot of items were donated to the museum by famous actors and musicians.
The museum is definitely 10/10, I really hope the guys open soon!
There was a calendar of my year hanging on the wall, I found a piece of paper with my birthday
My grandmother had exactly the same one with pieces of paper in the toilet))
3. Museum of Hygiene. We were lucky that we arrived on a day when the museum was closed for renovations. Why lucky?))) Because we were greeted with such cordiality! I was very surprised! There were no words “closed”, go wherever you want. They answered us: “Well, since you came, we cannot let you go, go ahead, but since tickets are not being sold from today, go for free.” Shock! everything that I experienced))) The building is historical, not far from the Moscow railway station, it is beautiful there even without exhibits, but with them it is even more interesting. The history of the development of medicine in Russia, hygiene - as it was in pre-revolutionary times and in Soviet times. Separate rooms for addictions - alcohol, smoking, drugs, where you can clearly see what is happening to a person inside.
10/10 - for the attitude towards visitors, for the love for their work, for the collection.
I forgot to say, they also gave the child books with tasks on the topic of hygiene
4. Peterhof. I won't write much. Very touristy and very popular. Of course it's worth it. Beautiful architecture, beautiful landscapes. You need to set aside the whole day. We traveled by bus; in the summer, of course, there were too many tourists. But in the fall it’s the best! The Gulf of Finland! The food in the cafe seemed unreasonably expensive and tasteless to me, so we ate it upon our return, but if I had known, I would have taken something tasty with me. We took an excursion to the main palace, my daughter was 7 years old at that time, she really liked it and was not tired, plus she felt special because she walked with headphones on and listened to the guide in them.
Here of course 10/10))
The photo shows August 2022, which turned out to be very cold and rainy
The Gulf of Finland
Squirrels are absolutely not afraid of anything or anyone))
5. Kronstadt. We already traveled with my husband and daughter by car in November 2019. Without visiting museums, we just walked. What did you like? Beautiful views of the water. Peace. The city seemed very gloomy, like a set for a historical film. Strict, gloomy, with a clear geometry of the streets, without advertising, banners, colorful lights or variegation. There were few cars and people, as if time had stood still. These are my purely personal feelings. Perhaps the boys will be interested in military museums. We weren't particularly interested and didn't go.
For myself I'll give it 7/10. But it’s perfect for fans of naval warfare and ships.
Photo from the Internet
What I regret is that I was not able to get into the forts
6. Karl Bulla Photography Museum.
We came here quite by accident, to escape the bad weather. Very cheap tickets. And you can go out onto the balcony to take a photo with Nevsky Prospekt in the background. The museum is the former studio of photographer Karl Bulla. A very small exhibition of contemporary photographers was presented, as well as photos from pre-revolutionary and the first half of the 20th century. I would like to immediately note that there were works in the nude genre, my child reacted normally, but we see statues of naked people in museums. Overall interesting. It's worth the price of admission. But I would hardly go on purpose.
6/10.
7. Museum of Soviet slot machines. It is also in Moscow. I remembered my childhood, my husband was a little older, but everything was new to the child))) We had fun, it was a pleasant space, there was a cinema hall where they showed cartoons. At the entrance you are given Soviet coins, which you can use to play the slot machines.
Photo from the Internet, for some reason I can’t find a photo from my trip in 1919, only on Instagram.
10/10 spend time with family
8. Siberian Lefty Museum (on the territory of the Peter and Paul Fortress). The museum is very small, one room. As for me, the price was too high, and the downside was that at that time it was impossible to pay by card, as I don’t know now, I had to go to the central cash register to buy there. The exhibits deserve admiration for the talent of the master.
6/10
Photo from the Internet
9. Museum of Technology (on the territory of the Peter and Paul Fortress). Interestingly, you could touch some of the exhibits and observe how technology has changed from the moment of its creation to the present day. There are truly unique exhibits. Several rooms in modern design.
9/10

10. Peter and Paul Fortress. We walked around the territory, did not go into the tombs, and the same thing into the main museum.
10/10.
11. Museum of the History of Money (on the territory of the Peter and Paul Fortress).
Be sure to take a tour, they are very interesting there, spend time with 5 people, we just teamed up with a group of guys. Educational, unusual facts, history and very rare exhibits! The museum is also interactive and modern.
10/10
Coin worth 50 million rubles)) Photo from 2022
12. Sightseeing bus tour. Tickets were purchased in the area of the Kazan Cathedral (boarding the bus was to the left of the cathedral, if you look at it)
1/10 is a waste of money! Uninteresting, boring, monotonous. My daughter fell asleep immediately. I listened because I love history, but from history there were only dates and names of architects. I give 1 point only because at that time it was freezing rain, and we were driving in the warmth.
13. Excursion around Siege Leningrad. I’ll say right away that excursions about the war are very rare, including in Moscow. I'm not talking about excursions from museums, but about groups on the street. I immediately give you the contact information of the guide and wholeheartedly recommend Alexander https://www.airbnb.ru/experiences/234009.
It so happened that there was no one except us on a weekday in October. The end result was a private tour. We wandered around the streets and courtyards for 2 hours. Seeing Sasha for the first time, literally after 20 minutes I already had the feeling that I had come to a friend, and he was showing me the city. Sasha is a graduate of the Faculty of History, full knowledge of the issue, the materials he showed, stories from his diaries. I dove in head first. Moreover, my grandfather stood on the borders of Leningrad and fought back the enemy; for me this excursion was not just entertainment, but very personal. My daughter was bored; at that time she was 8 years old; her knowledge of the war was superficial. Please note that it is not suitable for every age.
10/10
14. Cruiser Aurora. Let me start with the fact that my daughter wanted to go on the ship. In fact, she really enjoyed climbing on it. We went on a tour inside. Frankly boring and uninteresting. Designed for schoolchildren, the organizers did not take into account the fact that the schoolchildren who were in the group did not even take the history of the revolution in order to understand what it was about. The guide was clearly having a bad day, as the irritation could be felt a kilometer away. It’s up to you to decide whether to take the excursion or not; perhaps we were unlucky.
7/10
15. Museum Grand Layout Russia. A country in miniature. Recently such a museum opened in Moscow. What I want to note is the humor of the creators. If you look carefully, and it will take you a lot of time))) then you will see a lot of comical situations from the life of Russians. There is a minus - the location is in St. Petersburg, a bit far from the metro, among service stations and car washes.
10/10
16. Dolphinarium. Everyone has different attitudes towards places with animals.
I will not discuss this issue. We went and liked it. Prices at that time were much cheaper than in Moscow, the performance was excellent. It's a long way to get there. There were so many people in the lobby before the start, the parents were going crazy, I don’t know what the reason was, they boarded with tickets, but it felt like they wouldn’t have time to get a closer seat.
By the way, you can safely take cheaper tickets, the pool is not huge, you can see it perfectly from everywhere. But there are more opportunities to stay dry)
10/10
17. Zoological Museum. It reminded me very much of the Darwin Museum in Moscow. The essence is the same. If your child is not afraid of stuffed animals, then you are good to go. This was our last visit to this kind of museum. My daughter was only reassured by the fact that most of the stuffed animals were about or more than 100 years old and she said that they died a natural death. True, there were exhibits of very ancient animals. The museum is large and very old! we are tired, take note that it takes more than one hour.
8/10.
18. Kunstkamera. Huge museum. Different peoples are shown, their way of life, clothing, traditions. Well, where would we be without the famous freaks in the banks?
8/10
Photo from the Internet
19. Wax museums. We were in two. What to say? never mind. Don't waste your time and money.
Only one was more or less, and that was because it included an excursion.
3/10
20. Museum of Lies. I won’t reveal all the secrets, I’ll just say: very interesting, fascinating, definitely worth a visit! Buy tickets on websites with coupons. They are much cheaper there. And one more plus - the museum is located in a former bank vault with the door and stairs preserved!
10/10
Photo from the Internet
21. River bus. Yes, yes and yes! To visit the Neva and not ride along it on a tram is a crime. We have bad weather, so take your pick. It’s cheaper to buy tickets on official websites, where they are often at a discount, or on websites with coupons.
10/10
22. Well, what would it be like in St. Petersburg without walks?
Nevsky Prospekt, Kazan Cathedral, Cathedral of the Savior on Spilled Blood, St. Isaac's (you must climb it), the kitten Funtik, who grants children's wishes, searching for cats on the streets of St. Petersburg, well courtyards, cozy cafes, Palace Square, numerous streets, canals, bridges.
Our next trip with my daughter is in November. I will definitely review new places. Thank you
