Voronezh museums for children

There are not many museums aimed specifically at children in Voronezh. A child will find something interesting both in the main Museum of Local Lore, where there is a “zoological part” and an exhibition of butterflies, and in the Art Museum, one of the best in the country. Classes and master classes for children are held here. Below are some exhibition objects and institutions that are considered suitable for a trip with children in Voronezh.

Museum-ship "Goto Prestation"

  • Address: st. Sofia Perovskaya, 9.

On Petrovskaya Embankment there is a ship that will attract the attention of children with its appearance alone; it is very colorfully decorated. This is not just a ship, but a museum ship. It bears the complex but at the same time mysterious name “Goto Prestation” and immerses you in the atmosphere of the first period in the history of the Russian fleet.

A battleship with that name actually existed; it dates back to the times of Peter the Great. The Voronezh object is a reconstruction based on drawings, documents and sources dating back to the 18th century; the lack of information is compensated by the imagination and skill of modern masters.

The main graphic designer was P. Bergman. The museum ship was created in 2010. Children, especially boys, are attracted from an early age by the theme of distant travels and the romance of sea voyages, and they are definitely worth a visit to such an unusual ship.

Beaver House

  • Address: locality State Reserve Central Estate.

Toothed aquatic animals that gnaw wood and build dams - something like how children imagine beavers. You can get to know them in more detail on the territory of the Voronezh Nature Reserve, where a whole “beaver town” has been created with an eco-trail and an interactive museum.

It is called “The Beaver House”, the atmosphere and decoration in it are such that you get the impression that you are in the home of this animal. The museum's exhibits, one way or another, are related to beavers - different and interesting, you can and should interact with all of them.

House-Museum of A. Durov

  • Address: st. Durova, 2.

Objects of interest to children include a museum dedicated to a man whose name is inextricably linked with the children’s favorite circus. Anatoly Leonidovich Durov lived permanently in Voronezh from 1901 to 1916.

The house of the famous circus performer is included in the list of cultural heritage sites of Federal significance as an architectural and historical monument, and the street on which it stands is named after Durov. Since 1971, it has been a museum. The exhibition will tell about the life of the founder of one of the most famous circus dynasties, about the life and atmosphere of life of Russian artists of the early 20th century, and about some pages of the history of the Russian circus, which cannot be imagined without Durov.

Children will be able to see old circus posters, postcards, photographs, and feel the atmosphere of the circus more than a century ago.

Theater Puppet Museum

  • Address: Revolution Ave., 50.

At the Shut Theater there is a museum corresponding to the theme of the institution. Here children will be introduced to the “off-stage life” of puppet actors. Like people, they sooner or later retire and continue their lives in the museum’s collection.

Dolls participating in the theater's performances of past years make up a significant part of the collection, but do not exhaust it; the collection was formed in different ways and has 4 thousand exhibits.

The idea of creating a museum belonged to theater worker Alexander Veselov, who, unfortunately, did not have time to implement it, leaving this world in 1996. The museum was created in 2001 and named after him. The museum's exhibits were repeatedly exhibited outside of Voronezh, for example, in the capital of the country, Moscow, and even traveled to Spain.

Helen & Teddy Toy Museum

  • Address: st. Platonova, 3.

“Teddy” is the accepted name in the English-speaking world for the teddy bear beloved by many children. He is one of the main characters of the only museum of collectible toys in Voronezh; the bears here are not only plush, but also wooden, porcelain and others; they are accompanied by dolls of different types and eras.

The name of the museum is a play on the English name of the bear and the name of the organization’s founder, Elena Kikteva. It turned out “Helen & Teddy”. Visiting the museum is possible by appointment.

Einsteinium Museum

  • Address: Parkovaya street, 3, Solnechny village.

"Einsteinium" is a network of popular science museums across the country. The main idea is to present the basics of natural science in a playful way, to show that this world is full of wonders created by nature itself. This interactive format is primarily suitable for children. The museum of this network operates in the City-Park Grad shopping center.

In terms of range and variety of children's entertainment, Voronezh is somewhat inferior to other Russian cities with a population of one million, for example, Samara or Kazan. But the main city of the Black Earth Zone is actively developing and its entertainment infrastructure pays a lot of attention to the younger generation.

Photo – from the archive

When

Top 10 interesting sights

What is the most remarkable thing to see in Voronezh:

  1. Museum ship "Goto Predestination" - a copy of the ship of the same name from the Peter the Great era. Inside the ship there is a museum exhibition, which is complemented by wax figures of sailors dressed in costumes from the era of Peter I. But “God's Foresight” (as the name of the ship is translated) not only serves as a museum, but also actively works in the field of passenger transportation. The number of passengers is limited; no more than 50 people can board the battleship at a time. There is one more limitation: since the ship’s decks are made of wood using 17th-century technology, you cannot walk on them in shoes with sharp heels.

    Goto Predestination - this is what Voronezh needs to see first

  2. Admiralteyskaya Square, opened in 1996, is considered the most beautiful place in Voronezh. From the observation deck located next to it, a magnificent view of the Voronezh Reservoir, the panorama of the city and the left bank opens. The Church of the Assumption fits seamlessly into the architectural ensemble, and the highlight of the square is the monument to shipbuilders - a rostral column and three arches made of white marble surrounded by white marble columns connected by chains, symbolizing the port barrier. Despite its relative youth, Admiralteyskaya Square firmly fits into many traditions of the city. Events dedicated to Navy Day are held here. The ship "Goto Predestination" dropped anchor here.
  3. Victory Square , located on Revolution Avenue, attracts attention with a memorial complex consisting of an obelisk, a composition with figures of soldiers and home front workers, in front of which the Eternal Flame burns, and a wall with engraved names of Voronezh residents awarded the Orders of Heroes of the Soviet Union and Orders of Glory, titles and numbers of units that fought on Voronezh soil. This is the place for laying wreaths and flowers and ceremonial events on Victory Day.
  4. The monument to the kitten from Lizyukova Street , the hero of the cartoon of the same name, installed in front of the Mir cinema, has become one of the symbols of the city. The sculptors brought to life the plot of the plot: the kitten Vasya sits on a tree, talking to a crow. City vandals also paid attention to this funny monument: the kitten’s whiskers are regularly broken off.
  5. Sculpture of White Bim Black Ear stands in front of the Shut Puppet Theater on Revolution Avenue. The monument is made of stainless steel and only one ear and one paw are made of bronze. According to the sculptors, the bronze parts were supposed to turn black over time, but too many people want to pat Bim’s ear for good luck - and it remains red and shiny.

  6. The building of the South-Eastern Railway has been the “face” of the city for many years; its image can be seen on all printed materials. Architect N. Troitsky designed a building with facades facing three streets, with standard elements and a simple layout and with only one striking detail - a corner clock tower. During the war, only the walls remained of the building; no one was involved in its reconstruction; even proposals for demolition were put forward. Nevertheless, Troitsky defended the reconstruction of his brainchild, but the design of the building was changed in accordance with the canons of classicism and the architectural fashion of those years. The building still serves its purpose, and in 2000 it was reconstructed using the latest technology.
  7. Voronezh State Natural Biosphere Reserve includes:
  • a museum of nature, where you can join a tour, or you can wander through the halls on your own;
  • a beaver town, consisting of a building for keeping fur-bearing animals, an aquarium with a family of beavers (beaverarium) and an interactive museum;
  • Museum of Vasily Mikhailovich Peskov, an honorary citizen of the city of Voronezh, a journalist who wrote about nature;
  • fire museum;
  • rope park “Yozhkiny Paths”, offering visitors to shake themselves up on any of three types of routes: children’s, adults and extreme;
  • Equipped trails “Zapovednaya Skazka” and “Malaya Cherepakhinskaya”.

8. Castle of Princess E.M. Oldenburg is a building in the Old English style and is located in Ramon. The entire complex - the castle itself, the outbuildings, the Suite building and the park - is being permanently restored. Tours are currently available on the first floor of the castle.

The role of the castle in the Great Patriotic War is noteworthy: having learned about the Bavarian roots of Evgenia Maximilianovna, Princess of Oldenburg, the German command forbade bombing the castle. Thanks to this, it served as a refuge for local residents during air raids.

9. Divnogorye – archaeological museum-reserve. The name of the reserve was given by chalk pillars, called divas by local residents.

The reserve is interesting for its numerous chalk cave churches, the Mayatsky settlement of the 9th – 10th centuries, the Mayatsky pottery complex and the archaeological park. The entire area is open to the public, excursions are offered, and signs are posted for those wishing to wander alone.

10. Kostomarovsky Spassky Women's Orthodox Monastery , otherwise called Russian Palestine, is located near the village of Kostomarovo. The main attraction of the monastery is the cave temples, carved right into the thickness of the mountain.

When visiting the monastery, you need to keep in mind several rules:

  • women should be dressed modestly, with their heads covered and without makeup;
  • men, on the contrary, must enter the monastery territory without a headdress;
  • Filming inside temples is prohibited.

Zines of Voronezh comic book authors

The comics publishing house "Grotesk" produces zines (amateur small-circulation publications) and postcards related to Voronezh. For example, their authors created a series of parody zines about anthropomorphic crows who save the city from Peter I, collect semcoins (from the word “bitcoins”) and lead a riotous life on the streets of Voronezh. This year, the publishing house released a zine about Yura Khoy from the Gaza Strip: the musician lived in Voronezh, in one of the disadvantaged areas. Another great souvenir is “Grotesque” postcards from the “Memory” series with Voronezh monuments, including Bim.

You can purchase zines and postcards from the publisher directly or buy them at your local comics shop.

Zoos and aquariums of Voronezh

Representatives of the animal world await young visitors in two Voronezh zoos; you can chat with animals in a cat cafe and look at fish in the oceanarium.

Voronezh Zoo

  • Address: st. Polina Osipenko, 6A.

The traditional zoo in Voronezh has been operating in the Aircraft Manufacturers Park since 1994. In total, 150 species of animals live here, the exhibition consists of 7 sections. The zoo is divided into 2 zones: the zoological exhibition itself, which is small in area, entry is required by ticket, and a vast adjacent area, the so-called “free access zone”, where there are recreational and leisure facilities, including children's attractions.

Safari Park "Chervleny Yar"

  • Address: Smorodinovaya st., 2D.

“Chervleny Yar” formally belongs to the Voronezh Zoo, being its structural division, but the principles and conditions for keeping animals here are different, and it is located in a different place - in a forest on Smorodinovaya Street.

Natural vegetation is supplemented with plantings to create comfortable living conditions for animals. Essentially, this is a nursery. Its goals are animal breeding and nature conservation.

In the tourist context, “Chervleny Yar” is often defined as a “safari park,” that is, in fact, it is a landscape part of the Voronezh Zoo. The Tiguli eco-trail runs through the territory - a path paved with wood along a route on which visitors get acquainted with the natural world and the inhabitants of Chervleny Yar.

Establishments that combine in their concept the now popular format of an anti-cafe and a mini-kennel for cats are becoming increasingly widespread and are designated as “cat cafes.” "Mr. Moore" in Voronezh is one of them. This place has become home to 20 animals, the inhabitants here are not purebred, these are seals that find themselves in a difficult situation, without owners.

As in most anti-cafes, when visiting the establishment “Mr. Moore" is paid for the time spent in the company of animals. In addition, the cat cafe hosts various master classes, film screenings and discussion clubs, and holidays.
