Description of lifts

There are four different types of lifts on the territory of the ski complex: four-seat and six-seater chairlifts (“Sputnik” and “Lunar Express”). Gondola type – “Milky Way” and “Northern Lights”. Sputnik's throughput capacity is 1,800 people/hour. The average delivery time to the destination is 10 minutes.

Sofia waterfalls. This popular attraction of Karachay-Cherkessia is located near the village of Arkhyz. Following the signs it is easy to find the way to this unique site. The uniqueness of the waterfalls is that they are located at an altitude of 3700 m and are recognized as the second largest in the Arkhyz mountain region. The waterfalls are fed by glaciers on Mount Sofia (3637 m).

At high speed, streams of water fall down and form the mountain river Sofia. The sound of the waterfalls can be clearly heard from afar. R. Sofia flows into the main river Arkhyza - B. Zelenchuk. In winter, the Sofia Falls are a stream of ice ; from July to August the waterfall gains maximum power.

Those who want to visit this waterfall must overcome 17 km from the village of Arkhyz to the foot of the mountain, and then begin climbing up.

Special astrophysical laboratory of the Russian Academy of Sciences , operating since 1966 on the slopes of Mount Pastukhov. It is famous for its observatory with one large telescope with a mirror diameter of 6 m and two small ones, with a mirror diameter of 1 and 0.6 m. A large telescope is used only by specialists, but small ones can also be used by tourists.

The distance from the foot of the mountain to the telescopes is 17 km. You can get here by car on a good road. The RAS laboratory is a sensitive facility, so it is open for visitors until 17:00 and not every day. Tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays only.

Not far from the village of Nizhny Arkhyz there is an architectural monument of the 7th-14th centuries. Here, in the Nizhne-Arkhyz settlement, there was the city of Maas, the capital of the ancient state of Alania. Scientists believe that the Alans are the ancestors of the Karachais, who lived at that time in the territory of what is now Karachay-Cherkessia. Alania adopted Christianity several centuries earlier than Rus'.

Among the artifacts of the Alan settlement, three Orthodox churches are of particular interest: the Middle one, intended in ancient times for ordinary parishioners, the North one, created in the shape of a cross and supposedly the main cathedral of the Alan diocese (here in ancient times the Alans received the sacrament of baptism) and the South one, founded in the 10th century in honor of the holy prophet Elijah.

The face of Christ on the rock. The shrine is located on a rock opposite the Alan settlement. The gaze of Christ is turned towards the Northern Temple. Many routes have been developed that allow you to see the beauty of the Teberda Nature Reserve, for example, a visit to the gorge of the Ptysh River, an excursion to the fir forest, where the Kyzgich fir is presented, reaching a height of 60 m and having a trunk girth of 1.5 m. Off-piste skiing

There are few opportunities for off-piste skiing in Arkhyz. This is primarily due to the moderate altitudes: the upper stations are located only at 2200-2300 m above sea level, and there is rarely enough snow in the forest for pleasant skiing.

However, in snowy winters you can ride under the cable car lines, or between the routes leading to Romantic. Perhaps there will be good conditions on the north-oriented slope, but it’s too early to talk about it. In fact, the only opportunity to roll out powder is heliskiing or backcountry skiing from the Fedoseev or Rechepsta passes.

Weather in Arkhyz

The climate in Arkhyz is moderate. In summer it is never very hot, and in winter the air temperature does not drop below – 12°. The most snow falls in February. Therefore, this is the peak season at the resort.

Weather by month (November to March)

There is no snow yet in November But at night the air temperature can drop below – 16°. B, while during the day the temperature is above zero. The average difference is about 11°. Not a very good time for skiing. Winter activities are not yet available.

In February, nighttime thermometer readings can drop to -23°. Daytime temperatures are comfortable, about -1°. Lots of snow. The trails are excellent. Riding is a pleasure. When is the best time to go to the resort?

In this matter, everything depends solely on your wishes. If you want to save money, go at the beginning or end of the season. If you want to get the most out of your skiing, January and February are the best times.

2. Second green route. It’s also a great place for beginners who don’t yet risk taking difficult turns, performing incredible somersaults while descending. The length of the route here is shorter, about 884 meters, but there are difficult sections on the descent itself, so the route is considered a little more extreme than the previous one.
