SERDOBSK
SERDOBSK, a city in Russia, in the Penza region, the center of the Serdobsky district. Us. 33.6 thousand people (2015). Located on the river. Serdoba. Railway station.
Founded no later than 1699 by serf guards of the Penza district. like the Serdobinskaya settlement guarding the ship's scaffolding. It was part of the Penza district. Between 1710 and 1717, immigrants from the Kazan, Voronezh, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod provinces settled in the settlement. In 1711 and 1717 it was burned during Nogai raids. From ser. 18th century village of Bolshaya Serdoba. In 1774, during the Pugachev uprising of 1773–75, local arable soldiers under the command of retired sergeant B. S. Fedyshev supported the rebels. Since 1780 the city of Serdob (Serdobinsk, the name was fixed in the form Serdobsk). District city of Saratov province. (1780–1796, 1797–1928; until 1796 Saratov governorship), Penza province. (1796–1797). From the 1st half. 19th century Production (tar smoking, tar production, lard production) and trade developed. An important transshipment point for grain trade. Railway traffic is open. lines Rtishchevo - Serdobsk (1894), Serdobsk - Penza (1896).
Sov. power was established on January 10(23), 1918. In Civil. War 1917–22 front-line city, the 4th Serdobsky infantry was formed here. a regiment that went over to the side of the rebels during the Vyoshensky uprising of 1919. During the suppression of the Tambov uprising of 1920–21, units of the Red Army inflicted a decisive defeat on the rebels on the territory of Serdobsky district. Regional center of Balashovsky district. Lower Volga region (1928–30), Lower Volga region (1930–34), Saratov region (1934–36), Saratov region. (1936–39), from 1939 Penza region. S. and the Serdobsky district suffered seriously during the famine of 1932–33. In Vel. Otech. During the war, an evacuation hospital and a number of evacuees were located in S. enterprises.

Historical sketch
Known since 1699 as Serdobinskaya Sloboda; was surrounded by a rampart and served as a fortification against the raids of nomads. In 1717 it withstood the siege of the Crimean and Kuban Tatars. From the middle of the 18th century. village of Bolshaya Serdoba.
