Penza region
- a region of Russia located in the Volga region. The Penza region is located in the center of the European part of Russia and borders the Ulyanovsk, Saratov, Tambov and Ryazan regions, as well as the Republic of Mordovia. For a long time this territory was not part of Russia, was practically uninhabited and bore the telling name Wild Field.
The administrative center of the Penza region is the city of Penza
, which has several attractions, including the house of Vsevolod Meyerhold, which is now a museum attracting theater lovers from all over the world. Penza also has a unique Museum of One Painting, which displays only one painting, but it tells in great detail about painting and the life of the artist.
Narovchat
is the oldest continuously inhabited place in the Penza lands and was previously known as Nurijan in the 13th century, and then Mokhshi when it became part of the Golden Horde. Today this settlement is best known for the Trinity-Skanovsky convent, located in the village of Skanovo near Narovchat. The monastery includes a complex of caves.
What to see in the Penza region
The Penza region is distinguished by its picturesque nature, so there are many natural monuments in the region. One of them is the Volga forest-steppe reserve, occupying 8,000 hectares. The reserve is home to the rarest species of animals and insects and very rare plants grow.
Speaking about the sights of the region, it is definitely worth mentioning Tarkhany
– a historical place where the Russian poet Lermontov spent his childhood. The estate is still preserved in this place, and a museum is open. Every year the Lermontov festival is held in Tarkhany, attracting tourists. The region is also home to the Legend Sculpture Park, which is one of the largest sculpture parks in the world and hosts an annual symposium of sculptors.
