Where to go for a walk

Head by any means of transport to the Korabelnaya Side - the oldest part of the city, the name of which was formed in honor of the bay, where the first dry docks in Russia were built under Admiral Lazarev. Back in the 18th century, the bay began to be gradually populated by sailors and their families, as a result of which a whole area grew up, which survived despite the city being destroyed twice.

The walking route starts from the street. Roses of Luxemburg, down the cobblestones. At the beginning of the Apollo beam, an impressive tunnel was built under the railway track, there is a boat station with dozens of fishermen and the remains of an ancient water supply system - an aqueduct.

If you change direction from there to the left, the road leads to Ushakova Balka to a wonderful shady park, considered a natural monument, where you can take a walk in Sevastopol. Admiral Ushakov ordered the construction of a recreation area with gazebos and transition paths here. In those days, entrance to the parks was paid and accessible only to the highest ranks. The trees have survived to this day. During the Soviet period, the improvement of the beam was resumed, a cinema and a platform for evening dances were built there, but over time they were abandoned. Now it is a favorite place for city residents for picnics and forays into nature. Returning to the residential streets, you are greeted by 50s architecture with its incredible textures.

You can leisurely walk along the Kornilov embankment, Primorsky Boulevard, enjoying the shallow water of the central fountain and Victory Park.

Monuments and memorials

Tourists love to stroll along the picturesque streets of Sevastopol on warm evenings and look at monuments, steles and memorials, each of which can be considered a work of art. There are more than 70 memorial pedestals.

Monument to Nakhimov

  • Pl. Nakhimov.

The 13.5-meter monument to Nakhimov, the famous admiral, has a difficult fate. The monument, erected in 1898, was dismantled by decision of the Soviet leaders and again erected in a modified form in 1959. It is this monument that is now admired by numerous vacationers. The figure of the admiral, standing on a high pedestal, became a worthy decoration of the square bearing his name.

Monument to the Scuttled Ships

  • Primorsky Blvd.

Among other attractions of Sevastopol, one that stands out is one that is considered a local symbol. The name of Amandus Adamson, an Estonian sculptor, means little to tourists. But everyone is well aware of his creation, dedicated to the Sunken Ships, installed 10 meters from the picturesque embankment.

The monumental structure, which is an artificial rock with a 7.8-meter column with an eagle on top standing on it, is dedicated to the First Defense. Then, in 1854, in order to prevent enemy ships from entering the harbor, several Russian sailing ships were sunk. Those who know nothing about this historical event come to the embankment just to admire the unique structure.

Memorial of the Defense of Sevastopol

  • Pl. Nakhimov.

The monumental statue, located on Nakhimov Square, recalls the heroic events of the period of the beginning of the war with the fascist invaders. High school students stand guard at the Eternal Flame every day. On nine granite slabs installed here, you can read the engraved names of those who defended the hero city.

Monument to Catherine II

  • St. Lenina, 11.

New attractions often appear in the city of Sevastopol. One of them was dedicated to Catherine II, it was opened relatively recently - in 2008. Tourists can spend a long time looking at the sculpture of the empress standing on a granite colonnade and dressed in a ceremonial costume.

The cost of excursions is from 350 ₽ for adult visitors, from 175 ₽ for children over 7 years old. A visit to the antique exposition - 150 ₽/75 ₽, to the Byzantine exposition - 150 ₽/75 ₽.

Mikhailovskaya battery

Next, what you need to see in Sevastopol is the Mikhailovskaya Battery. You can get to the Mikhailovskaya Battery by boat from Artillery Bay. The cost of the trip is about 50 rubles.

The Mikhailovskaya battery is a typical example of a fortification structure of the 19th century. Reminiscent of Fort Alexander I in Kronstadt or the ring barracks of the citadel of the Brest Fortress: thick walls made of local material (sandstone) with windows - loopholes and high vaulted ceilings.

Inside there is an interesting museum exhibition on time from the construction of the battery to the Great Patriotic War. There is a military unit next to the fort (there are many of them in Sevastopol).
