The Eagle Shelf (locals affectionately call it simply “the shelf”) is perhaps the most popular place among tourists in the vicinity of the mountain village of Mezmay. in the Absheronsky district. This is a ledge in the rock on Mount Lenin, 300 meters above the ground, over which a second rock hangs. From the Eagle Shelf there is a magnificent view of the village itself, the Lagonaki Highlands and the surrounding ridges.
The shelf got its name thanks to the eagles that used to nest here. With the development of tourism, the birds have left their homes, but they can still be seen hovering over the cliff. Most often, birds can be seen if you follow the path that is located higher and leads to the Pyramid rock.
This place becomes a center of attraction for tourists on weekends and holidays, so you can perhaps enjoy the view in peace and solitude here only on weekdays or early in the morning. It is also worth noting the fact that people often stay unevenly. And even on a day when there are a lot of tourists here, you can find moments to take pictures without other people.

The Eagle Shelf in Mezmay is a ledge in the rock at an altitude of 300 meters above the ground with an overhanging canopy. The width of the ledge is about 5 meters, and the height is up to 3 meters. The altitude above sea level is 1000 meters. From a distance, the shelf looks like a long tunnel cut through the rock by the forces of nature. One side of this tunnel is open and drops down into sheer cliffs. This is what the Eagle Shelf looks like from above:
The Eagle Shelf from the Observation Rock is called “Eagles”, because large birds of prey nest here - vultures, often simply called eagles by the people. They live above the shelf and when visiting these places, vultures can be found gracefully floating in the air. The likelihood of seeing them is especially high if you climb higher - to the observation point on the Pyramid rock. About the route to it a little below.
