Weather forecast

The weather in Irkutsk in December is unstable and can quickly change from relatively warm sunny days to real frosts. On average, the air temperature remains at −14°C during the day and −18°C at night. And this is quite a pleasant time for walking and sightseeing. Contrary to stereotypes about Siberian frosts, in December Baikal only begins to be covered with ice, and it is completely frozen only by February. And even though you won’t be able to walk on the ice at this time, the landscapes of the deepest lake surrounded by snow will fully compensate for this.

The Siberian winter, although quite comfortable in December, is still winter and you need to take care of appropriate clothing. Take with you a winter jacket designed for frosts from −20°C, comfortable and warm shoes and sunglasses. Sparkling snow is beautiful, but not very comfortable for unprotected eyes to perceive. For walks along the shores of Lake Baikal, it’s a good idea to get ice access.

130th quarter

This area began to be built up in the 17th century, when this territory was still outside the city boundaries. For many centuries the land was undeveloped, and in the 20th century it looked like a village in the middle of a city. For the city's anniversary, less than 10 years ago, the Irkutsk administration decided to create a historical development zone here. The quarter was completely restored, and instead of the old abandoned wooden barracks, several dozen architectural monuments and paved pedestrian paths appeared.

Some estates and mansions house museums:

  • Complex "Window to Asia". A strike of printing house workers, led by Sergei Kirov, took place in this house.
  • Museum of the Siberian Railway. Previously, the estate belonged to the Zatoplyaev family.
  • The exhibition Crafts Compound is located in the Kurnosov mansion.

After visiting the historical buildings, you can visit modern shops, restaurants and cafes located on the territory of Irkutsk Sloboda.

In the 130th block there is a circle of wishes: a metal disk with the signature “Irkutsk 350 years”. You need to stand in it and turn counterclockwise 3 times, then make a wish and throw a coin. Your plans will definitely come true.
