The city of Kemerovo is one of the young regional centers of Russia, although its history is rich and goes back centuries. Monument-locomotive L3238
Guests of the city are greeted at the station square by a monument-locomotive. It was installed in 2006 in honor of Railwayman's Day. The locomotive, built back in 1953, arrived at its “eternal” parking place under its own power. Previously, it was located at Topki station.

Taiga birds and animals live here, berries and mushrooms grow, and in the fall you can enjoy pine nuts. The highlight of the reserve are the ancient rocks, called pillars, which have taken on bizarre shapes under the influence of wind and rain. The age of megaliths is estimated by scientists at 450-600 million years. The pillars are beautiful both in summer and winter. A visit to this wonderful place is definitely worth it.

The building of the city's main railway station appeared on its current location in 1961. The majestic structure with a massive central part, topped with a huge dome with a spire, and two symmetrically located six-story pylons looks grandiose. Its façade is decorated with square columns lined with polished granite. Under the cornices of the pylons there are clocks with large dials. During reconstruction in 2005, the architectural ensemble of the station square was supplemented with three round fountains. In the center of the largest of them, a column 16 m high was erected. On its top there was a bronze figure of a lion holding in its paws the heraldic symbols of Krasnoyarsk - a shovel and a sickle. The sculpture is 3.5 meters high and weighs about 3 tons. The whole composition looks surprisingly harmonious and even pompous.
What are the main attractions to see in Kirov in one day?
There are many interesting objects in Kirov and it is almost impossible to see the city in detail in one day. You can start a walk around the city, for example, from the railway station and move from it north to the beautiful Kirov Park, where it is worth visiting a diorama and admiring the ponds and sculptures.
Located on the Vyatka River, 896 km northeast of Moscow
From there, continue the route to the Botanical Garden and first go to Spasskaya Street, along which the main museums are located; you can visit them, and then turn east to the Alexander Garden and Green Embankment. If you have time, it’s worth taking a walk to the drama theater.

Just recently I shared my impressions of live music in Thailand, but here in Kemerovo, the guys from the local group “ZaPark Chudes” delighted with their performance; they played the hits “Chaifa”, “Resurrection”, Chizh, as well as songs of their own composition. The musicians have been playing for 25 years and this was felt in their harmonious, professional sound. By their own admission, they play simply for fun, and this buzz was automatically transmitted to passers-by and casual listeners, many of whom stayed for a long time. However, listen for yourself: I’m posting a video of the song “Hoochie Coochie Man” performed by them. On the back-up dancers was “Uncle Vanya,” who also received a fair share of applause.
Temples of Irkutsk
Among the attractions of Irkutsk, a special place is occupied by churches, of which there are a lot in the city. Perhaps such a variety of religious architecture cannot be seen in any other city in Siberia.
Spasskaya Church
The temple, founded in 1706, is the only building that was part of the Irkutsk Kremlin complex that has survived to this day. The architecture of the white stone church corresponds to the traditional canons of that time, as evidenced by the semicircular apse and the classic quadrangle for worship. In 1760, an elegant two-tier bell tower was added to the main building. The external painting of the temple walls is of particular artistic value. In addition, particles of the relics of Theodore of Tomsk, the miraculous icons of the “Yaroslavl Mother of God” and “Nicholas of Mozhaisk” are kept here.

It is rightfully considered the most interesting, from an architectural point of view, temple in the city. Its construction, which involved the best masters of stone carving, gilding and icon painting of the city, lasted 7 years, was completed on Easter 1892. The magnificent building in the Greek-Byzantine style is amazing. Around a central 12-sided drum, topped with a massive dome, are smaller limit drums arranged symmetrically. The high domes, arched gates of the central entrance, and the colorful decoration of the facade look amazing.
Epiphany Cathedral

The construction of the stunningly beautiful cathedral in the style of Russian classicism, on the site of a church that burned down during a terrible fire in 1716, lasted 28 years, ending with the consecration of the temple in September 1746. It survived two strong earthquakes in 1804 and 1861. In 1879, the flames of a large fire, which destroyed many buildings in the city, died out at the gates of the temple. The Bolsheviks who came to power after the Revolution turned out to be more ruthless than the elements. By decision of the authorities, the bakery workshops were located in the cathedral, operating until 1968. Then it was decided to carry out reconstruction, which took 18 years. After its completion, the building housed exhibitions of the local history museum, and it returned to the fold of the Orthodox Church only in 1994. Today the temple looks stunning not only from the outside, but also from the inside. Be sure to visit it, admire the luxurious frescoes and the altar of amazingly fine workmanship.
Roman Catholic Church

At the end of the 19th century. With the money of a large community of Polish exiles living in Irkutsk, instead of a burnt wooden Catholic church, a brick church was built, consecrated in 1884. It has a Gothic exterior, characteristic of Polish churches. The pointed roof of the bell tower is crowned with a long spire, the facade of the building is decorated with stone rosettes and tall lancet windows, and you can enter it through a massive gate. After the dissolution of the Catholic community, the church was transferred to a newsreel studio. At the end of the 80s of the last century, the temple underwent restoration. Upon completion of the work, it was transferred to the management of the Philharmonic and is used as an organ hall. However, after the end of daily concerts, priests hold services here.
Temple of Xenia of Petersburg
An elegant log church, not far from the children's hospital, appeared in Irkutsk quite recently. It was built with the money of a philanthropist from Northern Palmyra, whose child was treated at this medical center. The building is interesting for its architecture. On the one hand, according to all canons, it has the shape of a cross, on the other, the multi-level roofs of the limits give the church a resemblance to a fairy-tale house. The main relic of the temple is the icon of the patroness of the church “St. Xenia of Petersburg”. The interiors are decorated with magnificent paintings.
Belinsky Street
Belinsky Street as a whole attracts attention with one outstanding building - the house of the architect Khomich (no. 19). It rises like a fairy-tale tower among other buildings
Its cost at the time of construction in 1910 was about 50,000 rubles. The annual salary of the engineer who built it was 1800 rubles.
S. V. Khomich studied for 6 years at the Engineering Institute in St. Petersburg. His file contains many certificates of health problems; but in 1891 he was given a job as a junior engineer at the provincial council of Tomsk. His career was rapid and in a few years, having changed many positions, Khomich became a very popular and sought-after architect in the city.
The building stands on land that was given as a dowry to his wife Olga. The house turned out to be so huge for a family of three that part of it began to be rented out. In 1914, S.V. Khomich was accused of embezzlement and issuing false documents, after which he was forced to resign and leave. And the house still pleases the eyes of local residents.
