Geographical position

The city of Arsenyev is located in the center of Primorye, surrounded by the picturesque Sikhote-Alin ridge, in the valley of the Arsenyevka River. The area occupied by the city is 3937 hectares.

The city is connected to the regional center by rail and road transport. The city is located 262 km from Vladivostok by rail and 242 km by road, which is connected to the Khabarovsk-Vladivostok highway.

Historical reference

The city of Arsenyev grew out of the small village of Semenovka. In 1895, after a severe flood, seven families moved from the village of Petropavlovka to the Khalaza River (now Dachnaya). A little later, the family of Semyon Guryev settled near these settlements. His settlement was named "Semenovo". Up the Halaza River there was another village called Halaza. In 1902, all three villages were united and received the name Semyonovka. This settlement was allocated 3,972 acres of convenient land for 247 souls, 15 acres per male soul.

On the basis of this village, the construction of the first aircraft repair plant No. 116 began at the beginning of 1937 (now PJSC Progress AAK named after N.I. Sazykin). And already in 1938, with the growth of industrial construction, the village of Semenovka was transformed into a workers' village.

In February 1943, the history of the second largest enterprise in the city began - the machine-building enterprise, which was entrusted with the production of ammunition.

On December 24, 1952, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the RSFSP No. 762/9, the working village of Semenovka was transformed into a city of regional subordination and given the name Arsenyev in honor of the outstanding researcher of the Far East, traveler and writer V.K. Arsenyev.

In Arsenyev, the famous Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa shot the film “Dersu Uzala” - a film adaptation of the story “Dersu Uzala” by Vladimir Klavdievich Arsenyev.
