By car

There are two ways to travel from Moscow to Kostroma:

  • past Vladimir, through Ivanovo and Volgorechensk,
  • via Pavlov Posad and Yaroslavl.

The second option is a little shorter, and buses go to Kostroma using it. And the road there is normal everywhere.

In general, there are a lot of roads there, you can choose different routes and go where you like, suddenly you want to look at something. There are also plenty of attractions along all the roads. I was driving through Ivanovo.

Previously, the highway there had two lanes, but now some areas for overtaking have been expanded, so you can drive normally at high speed. Only in the Lakinsk area (this is still in the Vladimir region) the road was widened and repaired all summer, there were huge traffic jams. Knowledgeable drivers drove around Lakinsk or drove at night, when repair equipment was not working and there were no traffic jams. And then everything is fine, it’s not sad to drive, there is everything on the highway - from gas stations to saunas. On the way you can stop by Suzdal, where there is a lot of beauty!

What to see in Kostroma

In addition to the standard attributes of all cities of the Golden Ring, I mean churches and monasteries. Kostroma has preserved the unique stone and wooden buildings of the center, which date back to the 17-18 centuries. In winter, you get an indescribable feeling that you are in another century. Walking along the streets, we looked into ancient snow-covered courtyards and gateways. Literally every house was worth photographing.
