Sights of Michurinsk

Sovetskaya Street

The pedestrian street will not leave anyone indifferent! Every home deserves attention! There is enough space for viewing on Sovetskaya. It seems to be divided into two sleeves, leaving a wide space in the center.

I admit honestly, we are not up to scratch in the local history of Michurinsk. We hope for the help of Michurin historians and local historians. Here are some panoramic pictures of the street.

Now there are several separate buildings.

Monuments to I.V.Michurin

I wanted to write that the central monument of Michurinsk is the scientist after whom the city is named, but I stopped short. In the center to this day, like everywhere else, there is a bald man. Ivan Vladimirovich is shifted to the southeast. The sculpture of the breeder is located near the Elias Church.

The author of the sculpture is Matvey Genrikhovich Manizer. The monument was erected in 1950.

M.G. Manizer made a bust on the grave of Ivan Vladimirovich. The scientist was buried within the city limits. Michurin's grave is located opposite the main building of MichSAU. Two quotes from Michurin are carved on the monument: “We cannot expect favors from nature; taking them from her is our task.” The second inscription is on the back of the stele: “Man can and must create new forms of plants, better than nature.”

We were unable to take a good photo of the memorial due to the position of the sun.

There is an evening shot.

The grave is surrounded by a well-kept park. The improvement continues.

Temple of Elijah the Prophet

To be honest, we did not find any particular architectural merits of the Elias Church. “Not a masterpiece,” we gave this verdict to the appearance of the temple, discussing its features.

“Well, it’s not a masterpiece,” we heard the aunties on the bench grumbling behind us, “the absolute masterpiece!”

Let the parishioners disagree with us, but we remain unconvinced. We went into the church yard and cocked our lenses to capture the mosaics on the pediment.

At that moment, a candle woman came out of the temple and started yelling at us that we couldn’t take pictures here. Actually, we didn’t intend to take more than one frame. But out of spite and to please the spirit of contradiction, I brazenly took a few more shots.

And if we didn’t recognize the church as outstanding from the outside, we really liked it from the inside! We covered our cameras and looked at the icons for a long time. The same old woman was hovering around in plain sight, never taking her eyes off us. How she wanted us to break the usual ban on filming in interiors and give a reason for a scandal! We did not give and did not intend to...

I pulled out my travel diary and wrote down what icons the temple was decorated with:

- Holy Matrona with rich gifts; — Icon of all saints; — Icon with a reliquary of Sevastyan Karachandinsky; — Large image of Elijah the Prophet; — Icon of the Great Martyr Lyudmila; — Icon of St. Nina Equal to the Apostles; — A tray with a replica of the beheaded head of John the Baptist; — Icon of St. Mary of Egypt; — Saints Cyprian and Ustinia; — Saint Xenia the Blessed; — Saints Cyril and Methodius: — Holy Great Martyrs Catherine and Barbara.

If the “greeting” of the candle head caused rejection, then we left the temple with a completely different mood. Looking ahead, I will say that this was the most interesting temple in terms of interior decoration that we saw on our trip around the Volga region.

A park

Sovetskaya Street cuts through Michurinsk with a northwest-southeast radius and is interrupted by a city park. As soon as you pass the entrance to the park decorated with arched gates, you will immediately guess that Michurinsk is the birthplace of elephants!
