Vladimir

In 1778 the city became the center of the Vladimir province. At the end of the 18th century, the first printing house opened here, in 1804 - the first gymnasium, and 30 years later the first library began operating. In 1847, a drama theater was founded in the city. In the mid-19th century, A.I. served exile in Vladimir. Herzen.

In Soviet times, Vladimir was part of the Ivanovo industrial region. In the pre-war period, the Khimplastmass plant and the Avtopribor plant began operating in the city. In August 1944, Vladimir became the center of the region.

The city is famous for its ancient architectural monuments

Dmitrievsky Cathedral is famous for decorative carvings on the facades; among other churches, the following are known: the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, St. Nicholas in Galley, the pseudo-Gothic Catholic Church of St. Rosary. The Assumption and Demetrius Cathedrals are among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The city is home to more than 357 thousand people (2019).
