Abrau-Durso is, in fact, two completely different villages not far from Novorossiysk. The first of them - Abrau - is comfortably located on the shores of the lake of the same name in a mountain basin. It is in this village that the famous champagne wine factory is located. Durso, in turn, was built on the Black Sea coast and is a small, quiet resort “town”.

At the end of the 19th century, Abrau-Durso received distinguished guests, later turned into a Mecca of winemaking in the south of Russia (and is still considered the center of wine tourism), and today claims to be a European resort. Of course, partygoers will find it a bit boring here, but there are more than enough opportunities for active, educational and “lazy” tourism.

Beaches of Abrau-Durso

In Abrau, the beach is located on the shore of a mountain lake. The water there is clean, but looks cloudy due to its high limestone content. It is believed that swimming in this lake is good for health. The main thing is not to swim to depth, since the water there is much colder than near the shore. Well, if you don’t want to swim, you can take a breeze on a boat or catamaran on the lake.

Boats and sunbeds can be rented on the beach. You can rent a sun lounger for 100 RUB per day, and a half hour boat ride will cost 200 RUB

.

There are two beaches in Durso. The first of them - Central - is a small section of the coast covered with small and medium pebbles. The descent into the water is gentle, the sea is warm and clean. There are changing cabins, sun loungers and umbrellas, jet ski rentals, as well as many inflatable attractions. There is no entry or swimming fee.

The central beach is bordered on both sides by rocks, behind which the second section of the coast begins - the wild one. The shore there is also pebbly, and entry into the water is convenient for both adults and children. There are much fewer people here, so it is ideal for those who appreciate solitude and silence.

And very close to the seashore there is a shallow but very beautiful lake called Sladky Limanchik (also known as Maly Liman). This is a favorite place for families with children due to its fresh and very warm water.

What to see in the area

Abrau is a modern and very neat village.
Lake Abrau is amazingly beautiful; its water has an unusual emerald green hue. Local legend says that this color is given to the water by the scales of a dragon that lives in the depths of the lake. It is quite possible to swim in the lake in the summer.

A whole park of roses is planted on the embankment, exuding a wonderful fragrance. Here, on the embankment, the azure jets of the Fountain of Wishes .

Above the village, on the rock where the beautiful Abrau once sobbed, stands the red brick church of St. Xenia of Petersburg .

On the shores of the Black Sea, seven kilometers from Abrau, at the mouth of the river of the same name, is the village of Durso . The word Durso translated from Turkic means “four waters”: the Durso River is formed by the confluence of four rivulets. There is a small, well-maintained pebble beach in Durso. Two recreation centers “Fregat” and “Sailor” .

Abrau-Durso Hotels

Abrau-Durso hotels mostly offer guests comfortable modern rooms. Guests have everything they need for complete relaxation, including a buffet, free Wi-Fi and access to the beaches.

There are not many hotels in Abrau, but there is also little demand for accommodation here - due to the distance from the sea. But in Durso the hotel business is developing at full speed. New, comfortable mini-hotels predominate here, most of which are located near the beach.

The cost of living depends on the category of the accommodation facility. In the case of mini-hotels and guest houses, you will have to pay about 2000-3500 RUB per day for a room. A night in a hotel will cost more - around 6700-8200 RUB per day (including breakfast).

In the river valley there are guest houses with playgrounds, a bathhouse, a barbecue area, and a beach. This is a good option for lovers of a relaxing holiday and travelers with children.

Diving in Abrau-Durso

There are no diving centers in Abrau-Durso itself. So travelers who are attracted by the depth go to South Ozereevka. The distance between the two villages is only 10 km, so the journey does not take much time.

For beginners, the South Ozereevka diving club offers courses with trial dives. And for experienced divers, more than 10 routes of varying degrees of difficulty have been developed - from simple observation of marine fauna to search and exploration of sunken ships. The average price of the program is from 2000 RUB, the basic course costs 9500 RUB.

Well, “independent” divers, who are not stopped by the lack of diving centers, will appreciate the rich underwater world of Durso Bay.

What to bring

The best (and most logical) souvenir you can bring from Abrau-Durso is the products of the champagne wine factory (website). A good gift would be draft and vintage wine, cognac, or a bottle of champagne. There are two official stores on the territory of the plant where you can buy “real” alcohol.

Some shops in the village also call themselves “branded”, although they have nothing to do with the plant. Here you can also buy real Abrau-Durso wines, and their prices are practically no different from the factory ones.

Well, if neither you nor your friends and relatives are among the alcohol lovers, then standard souvenirs like magnets, thimbles and all kinds of figurines have not been canceled.

How is champagne made?

The champagne production process is complex and consists of many stages. The grapes are harvested and pressed to extract the juice. The first squeeze, in which the juice from the skin is not mixed with the juice, is valued the most. Then comes the stage of primary fermentation.

In ancient times, champagne was aged in such barrels.

It was in these oak barrels, made without glue and without a single nail, that champagne was previously aged. The capacity of one barrel is 5000 liters. It can easily accommodate several people. Now these are only museum exhibits.

In the fermentation workshop

And these are their modern analogues - stainless steel tanks with a capacity of several thousand liters each.

In the fermentation workshop

Cheap champagne (the one that the union invariably gives us for New Year) is produced using the tank method. As already mentioned, this technology makes it possible to increase production volumes many times over, but, unfortunately, at the expense of product quality.

Modern computerized production requires virtually no human intervention (except at the packaging and control stage): all operations are performed by machines.

Expensive champagne matures in bottles

But good (and, as a result, expensive) champagne, after the primary fermentation stage, is bottled in special high-strength bottles, after adding sugar and yeast to each bottle so that it can ripen quietly in the silence and coolness of stone tunnels. A prerequisite is to store bottles in a horizontal position.

Actually, at this stage the main sacrament is performed.
