Battery No. 905

In 1935, coastal defense was organized to protect the bays adjacent to Nakhodka. One of its units was artillery battery No. 905. It was placed on the northeastern shore of Tungus Bay in the forest. The battery's guns were installed in four gun pods. In addition, the fire of the guns was provided by a command post located in a concrete building, equipped with powerful rangefinders. The battery had its own power plant, water supply system, and underground communication networks. In the 1950s it was combat-ready.

City `s history

Nakhodka is the largest Russian port in the Far East and is ice-free all year round. This allows trade both with the northern regions and with Japan, South Korea, China and other countries of Southeast Asia. Archaeological research has shown that already in the 5th century, settlements of the Sushel and Mohe-Ilou tribes were located on the shores of the calm Nakhodka Bay.

The first Europeans to reach these places were British sailors, who in 1855 were able to sail to Garnet Bay on the ship Barracuda. The very next year, the Russian corvette America entered the bay, whose commander reported on the possibility of setting up a temporary point in the area, suitable for use by large-tonnage merchant and military ships.

Nakhodka received its name in 1859, when the Governor-General of Eastern Siberia Nikolai Muravyov, sailing in the Far East, made an entry in the logbook and marked the cape, the fairway, and also came up with the name of the bay itself. Nakhodka Bay was named after the first Russian ship to anchor in local waters.

In 1864, a military hydrographic post was established on Cape Yakov Astafiev. The first mentions of a small village appear in historical documents, which was built by military men and merchants to ensure maritime trade with China and Japan. At the end of the 19th century, a real boom in whaling erupted. The population of Nakhodka increased to 50 thousand people. Passenger ships plied here , connecting this port with Vladivostok and other major cities.

In the first half of the 20th century, the Soviet government began building an international trading port in the harbor, with some of the work carried out by Gulag prisoners. Nakhodka received city status in 1950. Subsequently, the first economic free zone in Russia was created here, which made it possible to trade with Korea, Australia, Japan and the countries of Southeast Asia as profitably as possible. Today, the port of Nakhodka specializes in transport transit and cargo transshipment, ensuring the delivery of vital goods along the Northern Sea Route.

Monument to the partisans who died in 1918-1922

Installed in 1967 and reconstructed in 1976. Dedicated to the turbulent events of the Civil War and the intervention of foreign troops. In Primorye there was a partisan movement that resisted the White Guards, Japanese and American invaders. During Soviet times, various youth events took place in front of the monument.

Main areas

The main highway stretches across the entire coastal part parallel to the bay, dividing the city into three main districts.

Districts in Nakhodka:

  • Central.
  • Northern.
  • Southern.

The central district is the heart of the city , where the city district administration, offices of large commercial companies, and business centers are located. There are supermarkets, shopping centers and large markets here. The historical center of Nakhodka is Lenin Street, which is lined with Stalinist houses. There is a football stadium, a municipal cultural center and the Diamond Nakhodka nightclub. In the Central District there are such neighborhoods as Pogranichny, Khema and Third Section. These are quiet green streets, atypical for Russian cities.

The northern region, which locals call KPD, is located in the valley of the Partizanskaya River. This territorial formation arose around the village of Severny and in the 70-80s of the last century it was actively built up by the private sector and five-story panel buildings. All buildings dating back to the beginning of the 20th century were destroyed by a serious fire in 1970. Therefore, there are practically no old houses preserved here. This is a large industrial zone where there is a city boiler house, a mechanical plant, an efficiency plant, a Stroitel base and a helium station currently under construction.

The southern area is a typical bedroom , built up with 5 and 10-story buildings. In the southwestern part of this microdistrict there is the former satellite village of Rybak, which opens directly to the bay. The most famous and picturesque hills in Nakhodka are two small hills, Brother and Sister. Their height is 242 and 318 meters. With their outlines they resemble pyramids and are the calling cards of this seaside city.

There are many lakes in the vicinity of the conglomeration. The area is home to dense broad-leaved deciduous forests. In the local reserve you can find various large predators and mammals. The Amur tiger also lives here , of which there are no more than 500 individuals left in the wild. Numerous rivers flowing near Nakhodka are chosen by fishermen who catch salmon and other red fish here.

The climatic conditions are favorable for cultivating the land and comfortable human habitation. The place is characterized by both warm ocean currents and cold air masses from the continent. The climate is monsoon, with frequent autumn rains. In winter there is heavy snowfall, but temperatures even in January do not fall below 10-15 degrees.
