At first glance, the capital of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic (KCR) is an ordinary city with a population of just over 122 thousand people. Monuments of historical value cannot be found in this place. The sights of Cherkessk (the old name is the village of Batalpashinskaya) are few in number, but have their own special charm. Tourists have a lot to see in this unusual city, which combines different religions, traditions and architectural styles.

Religion
The most interesting things about Germany: facts you didn’t know about before
The ancient religion of this people is monotheism - part of the Khabze teachings, which regulated all areas of the life of the Circassians and determined the attitude of people towards each other and the world around them. People worshiped the Sun and the Golden Tree, Water and Fire, which, according to their beliefs, gave life, they believed in the god Thya, who was considered the creator of the world and the laws in it. The Circassians had a whole pantheon of heroes of the Nart epic and a number of customs that were rooted in paganism.
Since the 6th century, Christianity has become the leading faith in Circassia. They professed Orthodoxy, a small part of the people converted to Catholicism. Such people were called "frekkardashi". Gradually, from the 15th century, the adoption of Islam began, which is the official religion of the Circassians. Islam has become part of the people's consciousness, and today Circassians are Sunni Muslims.

Story
Extract from the resolution of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee
Today's Cherkessk was founded in 1804 as a Russian military fort on the Kuban River, which was then the border with Circassia, on the site where, in 1790, Russian troops under the command of General Johann Hermann von Fersen (Ivan Ivanovich Hermann von Fersen) defeated the Ottoman Battalion. I plow. In honor of the victory over Batal Pasha, the fort was named Batalpashinskaya; it was a redoubt surrounded by an earthen rampart and a ditch. (That the fort was named after an enemy leader may have prompted the villagers to give up
preference for the nickname
Pashinka
.)
Monument to Friendship of Peoples
The settlement itself was founded as a Cossack village
Batalpashinskaya near the Russian army outpost.
The officially recognized year of foundation of Batalpashinskaya and modern Cherkessk is 1825. However, Cossack settlers from the Khopyur and Kuban regiments began to arrive in the newly organized village
no earlier than the spring of 1826.
In 1860 the village was designated as the center of the city. districts
in the Kuban region.
By decree of Tsar Alexander II of December 30, 1869, the village was transformed into the city of Batalpashinsk, but the decree was not implemented, and Batalpashinskaya remained a village
until Soviet times. In 1888, the village became the seat of one of the seven Kuban departments.
Monument to Soviet soldiers of Cherkessk
In 1922, the village became the seat of the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region in the Russian SFSR, and in 1926 the Circassian National Okrug. In 1931 it received city status and was renamed Batalpashinsk. Cherkessk received its current name in 1939. The city was occupied by the Nazi Wehrmacht
during World War II (Great Patriotic War) from August 11, 1942 to January 17, 1943, as part of the offensive Operation Case Blue. In 1957, it became the capital of the reformed Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Oblast, which became the Karachay-Cherkess Republic with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Infrastructure condition
When you see any advertisement for rental housing, you can often notice “cost + utilities.” So, how much can these same services cost you in Cherkessk?
In winter, the most expensive service is heating (from 700 rubles per month). At the same time, before renting a home, you should definitely ask the owners about the temperature in the apartment in winter. It happens that every month you pay a tidy sum for heat, but end up heating your rooms with an electric heater. In this case, you have to pay from 600 rubles monthly for light.
In summer, payment for electricity is about 450 rubles. per month. This takes into account if you use an automatic washing machine and a refrigerator. Water is heated using gas. For gas, the total amount is calculated from all residents of the house.
The central streets of the city are paved. Those streets that are located further from the center are simply covered with gravel. In general, you can buy a new car without worrying about its chassis.
Crossroads st. Lenin and st. Stavropolskaya
Traffic jams are extremely rare. True, on holidays you can stand in a traffic jam for about 10 minutes. Accidents occur very often on the roads. Accidents are most often caused by high speed and failure to comply with traffic rules. It seems that most drivers are self-taught, having mastered 3 pedals, a gearbox and a steering wheel.
Crossroads st. Griboyedov and st. Stavropolskaya
Public transport includes buses and trolleybuses. The buses, as if from Soviet times, have a bizarre van shape. Travel around the city costs 11 rubles.
Local bus
There are more and more taxis every year. The most expensive taxi is “24 hours”, because... The calculation is made strictly according to the meter. The most reasonable prices for trips around the city are from 60 rubles from the Imperial and Smile taxis.
Separately, it is necessary to say about the so-called “music boxes” or “discos on wheels”. These are cars with a lowered tray and tinted windows. The main difference between such tuned cars is loud music at full blast. Most often they play music from the 80s. The music is so loud that the driver of the “box” puts in earplugs so as not to go deaf! The essence of such a trip is known only to the “DJ” of this “disco”.
Cherkessk is the cultural center of Karachay-Cherkessia, so there are no problems with the availability of educational institutions here. In addition to public schools and universities, there are also private schools and lyceums. The only problem is the long queue at the state kindergarten. Not every parent is able to pay 400-600 rubles. per day for a child’s stay in a private kindergarten. Therefore, many have to stay at home with their children until they reach school age.
Real reviews from tourists about holidays in the resorts of Karachay-Cherkessia
The vast majority of online reviews about holidays in the resorts of Karachay-Cherkessia are positive.
Tourists are attracted by:
- clean mountain air;
- healing climate;
