Between two rivers is located one of the greenest and most spacious cities with a million population in Russia - the capital of Bashkiria, Ufa. The city, not very well known among tourists, nevertheless has a centuries-old history and rich culture. It is the birthplace of many world celebrities and prominent figures of literature and art. Thanks to its close friendship with the Russian people, Ufa combines the unique features and flavor of different cultures. Muslim mosques here peacefully coexist with Orthodox churches, and Eastern and Western influences harmoniously intertwine within the city. Below we have provided a list of the brightest and most unusual places in Ufa where you can go.
1
Monument to Salavat Yulaev
This is perhaps the most famous landmark of Ufa and the best place for photo shoots. The name of Salavat Yulaev is well known not only to residents of Ufa and Bashkiria, but also to all hockey fans in Russia and abroad. After all, the Ufa hockey club is named after him, which has repeatedly won major Russian championships and the KHL. But for the residents of Bashkiria, Salavat Yulaev is, first of all, a national hero, who fearlessly fought for justice and independence together with Pugachev.
The monument to him is located in the historical part of the city in the center. It is the largest equestrian statue not only in Russia, but also in Europe. It stands on a hill on the banks of the Belaya River, offering a picturesque view of the foothills of Ufa. Its author, Soslanbek Tovasiev, worked on the project for 30 years, and not in vain. For this project he was awarded a state prize.

About the city
Ufa is the capital of Bashkortostan, a city with a population of over a million, one of the five largest cities in Russia. It is located at the confluence of the Dema and Ufa rivers into the Belaya River. The area of the settlement is just under 708 square meters. km, where more than 1.1 million people live. Local time differs from Moscow by +2 hours.
Ufa ranks fifth in area and eleventh in number of inhabitants among all Russian cities
History of Ufa
The first settlements on the site of modern Ufa appeared in the 5th century. In the 14th century, the settlement of the Golden Horde, Bashkort, was located here, and in the 16th century, the headquarters of the governor of the Nogai Horde, Tura Khan, was located here. After the local lands became part of the Moscow Principality, local residents sent Tsar Ivan the Terrible a request to organize the city. In 1574, a fortress was built here, inside which a settlement was organized. Ufa received city status in 1585, becoming the center of the Ufa district, and a century later it got its own coat of arms.
At the end of the 18th century, Ufa was affected by the Peasant War, but the rebels were never able to capture the fortress. There were fierce battles around the fort, which were soon suppressed. After the Peasant Revolt, the city was annexed to the Kazan province, and then to the Orenburg province. In December 1781, Ufa became the center of the Ufa governorate, but not for long - soon it again transferred to the authorities of the Orenburg province. At this time, the city developed rapidly, turning from a fortress into an economic center.
From a fortified city by the 19th century, Ufa turned into the economic and administrative center of the region
In 1865, Ufa acquired the status of the central city of the Ufa province. Then it entered the Civil War, and for some time the Provisional Government was located here. With the establishment of Soviet power in the country, the Ufa province disappeared, and in its place the Autonomous Bashkir Socialist Republic was formed with its capital in the city of Ufa.
During the Great Patriotic War, several research institutes and dozens of industrial plants were evacuated to the city. In the post-war period, oil began to be extracted here, as a result of which large factories were built here. The development of mechanical engineering and the chemical industry also began. Today, Ufa is a major industrial and scientific center of Russia.
Congress Hall
Not far from the monument to Salavat Yulaev is the Congress Hall. It was built in 2007 as the largest business complex in Ufa, where the most important political, scientific and cultural events are held. Congress Hall embodies the latest trends in architectural trends, built in the shape of a drop and with an abundance of glass.
Under its roof, on an area of more than 36,000 m², there is a huge concert hall, several conference rooms, a museum complex, picturesque fountains and a beautiful winter garden. In addition, the surrounding area is landscaped with specially grown blue spruce trees. Congress Hall can be called a real pearl of the republic, which has no analogues in Russia.

Modern style
Of course, the pride of city residents is not only the Friendship Monument. Ufa also has more modern monuments. An example is the building called I love Ufa. As follows from the name of the monument, as well as the features of its appearance, it was used to declare love for the “heart” of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The amazing monument is easy to discover; it is located right behind the National Youth Theater, which is located on the Square of Two Fountains.
The art object is a combination of the name of the locality in the Bashkir language, the English letter I and the heart sign. Musicians and artists like to hold concerts near this building. Of course, next to the spectacular building in red and white colors, someone is always taking pictures.
Vatan Ethnic Park
Another new attraction of Ufa, opened in 2015. The park is located in an open area near the Congress Hall, which is the so-called Ufa amphitheater. Before its construction, open-air events and concerts were often held here.
The central element of the park is the ethno-village, which has become a symbol of Bashkiria. There are seven national-style yurts here, which display exhibitions dedicated to Bashkir culture. For example, here you can get acquainted with the process of making kumis, taste Bashkir honey, try on national costumes and take memorable photographs.
Today the ethnopark is also a center of youth culture, where musical, poetry and literary evenings, sporting events and concerts are regularly held. most-beauty.ru already mentioned this park in its article about the sights of Bashkiria.
4
Lyalya Tulip Mosque
This is one of the most beautiful and largest mosques in Russia. Its height is more than 20 meters, but at the same time the building looks very light and as if rushing upward. Not only the size of the mosque is impressive, but also its original appearance. The main building is built in the shape of a blossoming tulip, and two minarets on the sides resemble bright scarlet buds.
The symbol of the tulip was not chosen by chance - this flower has a special meaning in Muslim culture. Muslims have always had a reverent and respectful attitude towards him, since his Arabic spelling resembles the word “Allah”.
The mosque amazes tourists not only with its appearance, but also with its interior decoration. Marble walls, crystal chandeliers, stained glass windows, oriental-style paintings, luxurious carpets - all this creates an atmosphere of solemnity and splendor. In addition, the mosque houses the largest prayer hall in Bashkiria with a capacity of up to 500 people.
5
Friendship Monument
This is one of the most popular places in Ufa. Located on the banks of the Belaya River, on the site of an old fortress. The monument consists of two granite steles 33 meters high, on the sides of which there are two sculptural figures of girls with laurel wreaths in their hands - a Bashkir and a Russian. They symbolize Mother Russia and Mother Bashkiria.
The monument was founded in 1957 in honor of the 400th anniversary of the annexation of Bashkiria to Russia. It looks especially impressive in the evening, when the lights come on and you can simply stroll along the embankment, admiring the monument.

Fountain "Seven Girls"
This attraction appeared relatively recently - only in 2015. The fountain is located in a small cozy square in the city center, and has already won the love of residents and guests of the capital thanks to its colorfulness and grace.
The sculptural composition consists of a large bowl in the center and seven maiden figures located around the fountain. Its creation was based on the ancient Bashkir legend about seven rebellious twin sisters who threw themselves from a cliff into the waters of the Belaya River so as not to fall to their enemies. According to legend, at that same moment seven stars lit up in the sky. National music plays near the fountain, and in the evening artificial lighting comes on. Then it seems as if the girls are dancing.
Once, most-beauty.ru already wrote about the most beautiful fountains. We highly recommend reading it.

Gostiny Dvor
A favorite place for residents and one of the main attractions of Ufa, Gostiny Dvor is located in the historical center of the city. The building was built at the beginning of the 19th century, but today it houses modern shops and an entertainment and business complex. It is this combination of historical architecture and modernity that makes this place so attractive and popular.
It is worth noting that fairs have been held in Gostiny Dvor from time immemorial. Merchants from all over Russia and Europe came here, and then it became an elite place for the governor, his entourage and wealthy merchants to live. In Soviet times, it was repurposed as workshops and factory premises, as a result of which it completely lost its former appearance. They even wanted to demolish the building, but city residents came to its defense. As a result, it was reconstructed and made the main cultural and business complex of the capital.
