From Ivan the Terrible to the present day: “Embankment of Life” was presented in Surgut

For many tourists, Surgut appears to be a young, developing city in Siberia, where people extract gas and oil, earn high salaries and endure a harsh climate. In fact, the city dates back to 1594, when a wooden fortress was erected, which later became a place of exile for participants in the uprising led by Stepan Razin and the Decembrists. The city's heyday began in the 60s of the last century with the development of oil and gas fields, and today it is one of the richest industrial cities in Russia. Therefore, the sights of Surgut are not so significant, but we will try to tell you what interesting places there are in Surgut and where to go for a cultural walk in the city.

all author's entries Material from Wikipedia - the free encyclopedia: Surgut is a city in Russia, the administrative center of the Surgut region of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, the largest city in the district, one of the few Russian regional cities that surpass the administrative center of its subject of the federation both in population and on industrial potential. Population 303.0 thousand inhabitants (04/01/2010). The area of the city territory is 21,009 hectares. The largest river port in the Ob region. An important railway and highway junction (the largest in the north of Western Siberia). International Airport. As the production center of the largest oil region, Surgut is the unofficial “oil capital” of Russia. The modern coat of arms of Surgut, “in a golden field - a black fox with a silver end of the tail, walking on azure land,” was approved on November 20, 2003 by the Decision of the City Duma of November 4, 2003. The history of the city of Surgut goes back to the distant past, namely in the times of Ivan the Terrible and Ermak. After Ermak discovered the Trans-Ural lands, which were annexed to Russia, cities such as Tyumen, Tobolsk, and Tara began to be founded. In 1594, the tsar issued a decree that said the following: “Fyodor Boryatinsky and Vladimir Anichkov...to be in the service in Siberia up the Ob River, to establish a city in Surgut... And having come to Prince Fyodor and Vladimir in Surgut, in which the place is nice, having looked out for a place strong, establish a city” It is unlikely that it will be possible to find out the exact date when people came to the places where the city stands. What is known is that in 1594 a fortress and a church were already being built in the city of Surgut. Based on all this, 1594 is considered the year of the founding of the city of Surgut. The city was founded near the Ostyak fortress of Prince Bardak (Borodok). Surgut was “founded by 4 people”: a governor, a priest, a merchant and a hunter. Today in the city center there is a wonderful monument to the founders of Surgut.

I have lived in Surgut for more than 30 years. In 1979, when I came here, it was a small town with a population of about 70 thousand. Over 30 years, it has grown 4 times and is considered the most dynamically developing city in Russia. Surgut, like all of Siberia, did not know serfdom; people lived strong, free, and determined. However, the city has long been a place of exile; Decembrists were exiled here. In April 1918, Soviet power was proclaimed in Surgut, the city survived the Kolchak revolution and the peasant rebellion. During the Great Patriotic War, Surgut residents actively helped defeat the enemy. From here, almost all adult men went to the front, half of them did not return home. All the wealth of the taiga region went towards the defeat of Nazi Germany. In memory of the Surgut residents who fell on the battlefields of the Second World War, a beautiful memorial monument was built and an Orthodox chapel was erected on the highest place in the city, where Cossack plows once landed. The modern history of Surgut began at the turn of the 50-60s with the arrival of geologists in the Middle Ob region and their discovery of rich oil and gas deposits. On a bright sunny day in May 1964, on a pier hastily built on the banks of the Yuganskaya Ob, near the village of Ust-Balyk, an event occurred that began the rebirth of Surgut. The first commercial oil was pumped into the tanks of oil barges and sent to a refinery in Omsk. There was a smell of big oil in Surgut, the whole country learned about it, newspapers excitedly wrote about the discovery of modern explorers - geologists and oil workers. Their names are immortalized in the names of city streets and, first of all, deposits: Povkhovskoye, Muravlenkovskoye, Akhatovskoye, Nazargaleevskoye, Dunaevskoye, Fedorovskoye. And again, Surgut became a springboard for the development of new territories - now oil and gas ones. In 1965, Surgut was given city status. Simultaneously with the fields, the residents of Surgut were building the first state district power station, the fuel for which was to be associated petroleum gas, burned in field flares. The power plant was built on a hill - Maryina Mountain, where, according to legend, a Surgut merchant killed his unfaithful wife. In February 1972, GRES-1 produced the first current; the light bulbs in the houses of Surgut residents flashed so dazzlingly bright that you wanted to close your eyes, old-timers said. However, the growth rate of energy consumption in the Ob oil region exceeded the all-Union rate by five times! Block after block with a capacity of 200 megawatts - one each year - came into operation. Then came the turn of the second Surgut State District Power Plant, where six more units were commissioned, but already 800 megawatts each. At the first power plant, two heating units were built, which today supply Surgut, the only city in the region, with a cheap ocean of heat. The Tyumenenergo system, which includes both GRES, is the second largest in power in RAO EU of Russia after Mosenergo. Surgut GRES-2 is the largest thermal power plant in Russia, located in the city of Surgut, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (from Wikipedia) In record time - in four years - there was a two-kilometer railway bridge across the Ob was built. August 5, 1975 will forever be remembered by many Surgut residents: on this day, the whistle of the first diesel locomotive announced the waters of the Ob River and the immediate surroundings. The whole city went to meet him at the future Surgut station. The city's river port is the second largest in the Ob-Irtysh Shipping Company. During the years of rapid development of the region, heavy, bulky equipment for state district power plants, oil fields, and millions of tons of cargo for numerous construction projects were delivered to the Surgut river port. Surgut residents developed many deposits from the air, with the help of aviation. In a short time, a runway and a new airport were built, from where air routes ran to many cities in the country, their total length amounting to hundreds of thousands of kilometers. Today, the airport has been reconstructed in the city, customs and an international sector have appeared here, and the runway can accommodate modern airliners.

Today everyone knows Surgut. It is the base city of the Middle Ob region, a city of diversified economy. It is called the main city of Siberian oil workers and the capital of the oil region, an air gateway and port city, the industrial and energy heart of the North. A state university, a state pedagogical university, local history and art museums, several art palaces and sports complexes have been opened in Surgut. Easy-going Surgut residents, having visited the blue sea, European cities and capitals, still hurry home, because our city has an inexplicable charm and charm that is not revealed immediately and not to everyone, but only to those who have lived here more than once year and “fell ill” with Surgut. It is difficult for them without the white nights of June, without the first greenery on the trees, which appears at a time when plowing and sowing are in full swing in the southern regions, without the fierce February blizzards and crimson sunsets in the full sky. An architectural feature of Surgut is its wide highways, lined with multi-storey buildings of improved, northern design, with traffic junctions that ensure the safety of traffic flows on city streets. From a bird's eye view, Surgut, stretching along the Ob for more than two dozen kilometers, looks like a real white-stone capital of the oil region of the Ob region. The city seems to be open to everyone, this is the first impression of our guests. In a word, the appearance of Surgut has absorbed the spirit of this mighty and endless land. Material from Wikipedia - the free encyclopedia: Surgut Bridge - a suspension cable-stayed bridge across the Ob River; one of the longest bridges in Siberia. Its length is 2,110 meters (total length with entrances is about 15 km). The bridge is the largest in the world, whose central span (408 m) is supported by one pylon, the height of which is 150 m. It is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. He is depicted on a Russian postage stamp. For a long time, it was possible to fly to Surgut by air or sail by river; the first train came to our city in 1975. I am considered a long-time resident of Surgut and am very proud that I know every house in it, everything was built under my watch. Look at our beautiful Surgut, and when you look, remember that the city stands where there were continuous lakes and swamps. I know that, for example, my house stands on alluvial soil on stilts, like all houses in Surgut. Usually it happens like this: sand is washed for a long time, then piles are driven into it and stand for at least a year, then they are cut off and only then the house begins to be built. You can fly to Surgut by plane or by train, or you can also sail by river. The airport and train station are the gates of the city, they should be clean and beautiful! International Airport "Surgut" City Station, view from the platform.

Surgut river port. During the rapid development of the city, all construction materials and equipment were mainly brought along the river. But ships sail only in summer, because in winter the Ob is frozen and ice breaks up usually on Victory Day. That's probably all I wanted to say, now just look at the photo of my favorite city: This is a road bridge at the entrance to the city.

Surgutneftegaz is one of the “whales” of Surgut, the second Gazprom :) Our white nights, it took me a long time to get used to it, I couldn’t sleep :) Our winter is long, eight months a year, so the city is well lit at night, and the houses are painted in different bright colors.

The city has many monuments and temples of various faiths: The historical fate of Surgut, one of the oldest cities in Siberia, has developed in such a way that today it has practically nothing to prove its antiquity. In memory of the past, one architectural monument has miraculously been preserved - the Klepikov house. Now it houses a branch of the Surgut Museum of Local Lore - “Merchant Estate”, it is being formed as the center of a cultural community that supports traditional family values, interest in the history of its people, clan, family. City residents come to the estate for Christmas trees, fairs and children's parties. Every year, graduates of the “red” school, which was located in the Klepikovs’ house in the 1920s–1950s, meet here. The festive, elegant appearance of the ancient estate, surrounded by high-rise buildings, creates a kind of “intrigue” of the modern cultural landscape. Employees of the Surgut Museum of Local Lore are confident that the “antique” appeal in the 21st century will become an important part of the city’s identity. Surrounded by a tributary of the Ob, the Saimaa River, stands our beautiful university. And on the other bank of this river, “Old Surgut” is the only historical and ethnographic complex in the city that reproduces Surgut wooden architecture at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. It is located in the historical center of the city and is an accumulator of folk traditions. On the territory of the historical and cultural center there is a House of Crafts and Arts and Crafts, which houses craft workshops where experienced artists and craftsmen work.

Surgut residents adore their city, despite the frosts: And even a tornado: Material from Wikipedia - the free encyclopedia: On September 4, 2008, a tornado was noticed in the area of GRES-2, an unusual phenomenon for this region. In September 2009, the tornado happened again, a year later. Listen to the unofficial anthem of Surgut, which every Surgut resident knows by heart: and you’ll immediately understand why :))

Verkhovsky

It, in turn, was named after one of the first Komsomol organizers in Surgut, Ivan Matveevich Kaidalov, who was killed by bandits in 1921 during the kulak-SR rebellion. Before this name was given, the street was called Martovskaya, and even earlier – Cemetery. There was a street on the northern side of the city. According to Ivan Zakharov’s description in the book “My Land,” there were more than three dozen houses on the street (probably in the mid-twentieth century). Including the buildings of the State Bank, the regional financial department, the district party committee, and the collective farm "Red Northerner". In the depths of the street stood the building of the regional House of Culture. He had a sad story. The House of Culture was built, as they say, “by the whole world” in 1963, and on July 20, 1974 it burned to the ground. It also housed a library with a rich book collection. One can imagine the experiences of the townspeople who were left without a single center of culture and without a “storehouse of knowledge.” It took years to recover from such a loss.

On Kaidalov Street, as if by irony of fate, stood the first water pumping station in Surgut. Almost all residents of the so-called upper part of Surgut used it. In everyday life - “Verkhovskie”. And I had the opportunity to fill a large flask with water from this water pump. I went with a flask to the house located on Kaydalova, 8, the address of my first registration in Surgut and my place of residence, where I arrived 28 years ago.
