Resort Features
The development of Svetlogorsk (Russia) as a resort city began immediately after the end of the Great Patriotic War. It is located on a hill, at an altitude of 50–60 meters above sea level. However, some areas are located in lowlands. The descent to the sea is quite steep, the height of the slopes is up to 60 meters. For the convenience of people, places suitable for descent are equipped with stone and steel stairs, including wide and comfortable ones. There is also a cable car (formerly a funicular) with a length of 118 meters.
Svetlogorsk is a traditionally green city, which can be called a city among the forest. After 2000, the situation began to change in the direction of continuous development and deforestation. In recent years, this trend has spread to almost the entire country, greatly changing the appearance of many cities.
Svetlogorsk health resorts are very famous. They were built during the Soviet era. There are boarding houses, holiday homes, and health camps for children. Now the city is a federal level resort.
Lenin Street
The main street of the Svetogorsk resort, Lenin Street, runs past the station. To get to the center of the resort, you need to exit the station building and go left. The road to the right leads to Otradnoe, a suburb of Svetlogorsk. There is a house-museum of Brachert, a local sculptor.
Lenin Street runs parallel to the seashore, and smaller streets run off from it in different directions. As a rule, such streets are downhill. On the map everything looks harmless, but in Svetlogorsk be prepared to overcome ups and downs all the time.
Lenin Street is like a watershed: on one side the streets go down to the sea, on the other - to Lake Tikhoe.
The steepest descents from Lenin Street are towards the sea. There are seven serpentine staircases and one funicular in the form of cup-shaped cabins for two. The funicular is located almost immediately behind the station, just walk forward to the center. The cost of one journey is 50 rubles. Height difference – 34 m.
The streets going down to Lake Tikhoe are less steep, however, it is what the locals call “down there”. “Where does the bus to Zelenogradsk stop?” “Below,” the local resident will answer and wave towards the lake.
Interesting objects
There are enough attractions in the city of Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad region. The most important ones are listed below:
- Statue of the frog princess. This sculpture is located in the park near the railway station. It was opened on August 11, 2006. It represents a woman sitting on a stone in a frog pose. This sculpture was created over 20 years by the same artist and is made of bronze. This is a kind of symbol of the city and a talisman of good luck.
- Sculpture "Carrying Water". This is a marble statue depicting a girl carrying water in a jug. It was created in 1944. Another name is “Girl with a Jug.” Gradually, the statue began to deteriorate, and therefore it was transported to the museum, and an exact copy was placed in the same place.
- Monument to Academician Pavlov.
- Organ Hall.
- Sundial.
- A female sculpture called “Nymph” on the city embankment.
- Eagle statue.
- Memorial sign to Thomas Mann. It is a stone image of an open book lying on a stone.
- Pedestrian path "Promenade".
- The hydropathic tower.
- Lutheran Church, built in 1907.
- Monument to Hoffmann. It is displayed at the House of Storyteller hotel.
- Memorial complex at the grave of Soviet soldiers. 75 people who died in January-April 1945 are buried there. There is also a monument there. All this was done during Soviet times.
In addition to all this, the city has many interesting architectural structures.
I'm moving on...
Then my husband and I will register at the employment center on the street. Sirenevoy 1. At the same time, we will look for work on our own.
I am an accountant by training and can work from home remotely. There is no great demand for economists in this city, but I don’t mind radically changing my specialty: for example, I’ll get a job as a nanny in a kindergarten. The salary is 9,000 rubles, but there will be a chance to enroll your child in kindergarten without waiting in line. So simply, in the order of “general waiting”, it is unlikely that you will be able to get in quickly: although the child is already 5 years old.
My husband is a musician by training, but this job is only profitable in the summer. Despite the fact that the “Variety Theater” has already been built in Svetlogorsk, and even this year the first Maslyakov’s “Voting KiViN” will be held here, there are enough musicians in Svetlogorsk. Therefore, the husband will get his driver’s license with categories “B”, “C”, “D” and will get a job as a driver. For example, the driver of the minibus Svetlogorsk - Kaliningrad - z. p. 20,000 rub. This is quite hard work, so there is a constant demand for personnel here, but my husband will be able to visit the regional center every day for free, where he can buy some food or building materials cheaper than in Svetlogorsk.
How to get to Svetlogorsk
Getting to this city is not very easy. And this is not surprising, given where Svetlogorsk is located. And this city is located in the very west of Russia, in the Kaliningrad region, on the shores of the Baltic Sea. From major cities of the country you can get to it by bus, train or car. You can also use the services of airlines. The last option is the most preferable. This is due to the fact that the Kaliningrad region is separated from the main territory of the country by other states, so land transport may not be very convenient.
There are direct flights from Moscow and St. Petersburg. In the first case, the flight time is 2 hours, and in the second – 1.5 hours.
You can get from the airport to the desired location using a taxi. You can also get there by public transport, but with a transfer in Kaliningrad. This is a longer and cheaper option. Those interested can rent a car. Since the roads in the region are good, driving will be comfortable.
A more difficult option is traveling by train. To do this, you will have to buy a ticket using your international passport directly at the station. And in advance - no later than 27 hours before the departure of the train. You will need to fill out a form on the train, and a special travel document will be issued at the border with Lithuania. However, it will be possible to exit only in the Kaliningrad region.
Trains leave Moscow every day, and from St. Petersburg - 3 times a week. The travel time is short - only about a day. However, trains only go to Kaliningrad. From there you can get to Svetlogorsk by bus, train or taxi. The high-speed electric train "Lastochka" (Kaliningrad - Svetlogorsk) will quickly deliver passengers to their destination.
Work: where, by whom?
As I already indicated above - Svetlogorsk is a resort city - there are no industries here, so the job market is focused mainly on the service sector and seasonal services for vacationers. In the summer there is an increased demand for: waiters, cleaners, maids, sellers in tents, animators in children's health centers, cooks. Average salaries from 9500 rub. up to 20,000 rub.
The Kaliningrad region has big plans for Svetlogorsk, and there has been a bit of a construction boom going on lately. Therefore, specialists in this field are welcome: concrete workers, masons - 20,000 rubles, painters - 15,000 rubles, tilers - 18,000 rubles, forklift drivers - 18,000 rubles.
Medical workers in dispensaries and hospitals are in demand all year round: nurse - 9,500 rubles / 12,000 rubles, doctors of a narrow focus - 16,000 rubles.
In winter, when even mediocre shops close due to unprofitability, most of the population goes to work in Kaliningrad.
Hotel "Lumiere"
This respectable hotel is located in a forest area, close to the coast and not far from the city center. There are 20 places for people to live. All rooms are beautifully decorated. One to three people can live in one room. There are also deluxe rooms. Bathrooms are well equipped.
There is no need to buy food at the store. The hotel has its own restaurant where Russian and European dishes are prepared. You can order a diet menu. Plus, food and drinks can be delivered to your room and packaged food can be purchased for the trip.
In addition to the restaurant, the hotel has a Russian bath, sauna, laundry, car and bicycle rental. There are also barbecue areas, a children's playground, a library, parking, and Wi-Fi. Near the hotel there are restaurants, cinemas and shops.

Most recently (in 2016), the building was completely renovated.
Rest
Entertainment in Svetlogorsk is modest. Mostly walking along the embankment and visiting numerous cafes. The most inexpensive establishment, in my opinion, is “Blinnaya” on the street. Oktyabrskaya. Although for 1,500 rubles, for two, you can have a delicious meal in the “Fisherman’s House” on the promenade.
