The first settlers came to the territory of modern Zlatoust at the end of the 17th century in search of gold. They say that the secret that precious metals mined on the “Siberian Mountain” are being smelted on Lake Irtyash was revealed under terrible torture by Elder Lot from the Dalmatovsky Assumption Monastery.
Within a few years, the participants of the military-geological expedition became the first Russian settlers in this territory. The expedition ended in complete failure - no precious metals were found. The same fate befell subsequent attempts to find silver and gold. However, several decades later, iron ore was found here. An ironworks was founded.
In 1754, a city began to grow around the plant, which received the name Zlatoust. Local historians believe that it was named after St. John Chrysostom.
There is accurate evidence that the plant was named Zlatoust long before the construction of the city began. It is alleged that the icon of John Chrysostom was especially revered in the family of the founder of the plant, Mosolov.
Today Zlatoust is famous for its master gunsmiths who decorated weapons with engravings on metal.

The inscription on the pedestal was written with an error. The dates of life of P. P. Anosov are indicated incorrectly: he was born not in 1797, but in 1799. The exact date of birth was established after the monument appeared. No corrections were made.
